To clomid or not to clomid!?

We have been ttc#2 since July 2010. I have PCOS and irregular cycles, i can go 100+ days between periods.

I was put on metformin 3 months ago as bmi too high for clomid. I had one ridiculous cycle and last one was 29 days with very short LP (5days).

I seen consultant at clinic on friday and as BMI has reduced i am eligible for clomid. She has told me we can decide whether to use clomid so has given me a prescription for 6 cycles worth.

She suggested that as i seem to have ovulated with the metformin then maybe clomid is not necessary although cos of short LP it looks like progesterone is low so she said the clomid would give a better ovulation.

So we have to decide what to do ...continue with just metformin for a few cycles and then try clomid or try clomid straight away!?! As we have a child already clomid is all they will do and they will wash their hands of us if it doesnt work (her words!)

All advice welcome!

Go for the clomid, it worked for us on the 2nd go, now 18 weeks pregnant. It's not the most pleasant thing to take especially if you are taking the higher does but worth it for that bfp. Good luck!

I don't haveany wisdom on this really as I am a step behind you but sounds like a very similar story. I was finally pcos diagnosed recently although I have known personally for ages. My gp said I could try metformin first and then if no joy try clomid. I am just in the first week of metformin (not keen on the side effects) and I hope thats all we need, but the gp quite frankly said I need to give it 3-6months before they will let us try clomid. Do what you think feels right
