tested today, which makes me 4-5 weeks pregnant, I had a missed miscarriage in september, embryo was at 7-8 weeks. I am now scared stiff that the sme thing will happen. What can i do to try to prevent it? how can i set my mind at rest? Its going to be unbearable to wait 8 weeks for scan.I have 3 healthy children already and it was my first miscarriage, i'm 37.

Rest lots and eat well. Im sure everything will be fine but if you make time to rest and eat well hopefully it will help you relax a bit, in the knowledge that you're doing everything you can. Congratulations. Smile

thanks, am trying so hard to relax and not worry but easier said than done. Im just so worried that 12 week scan will be awful and devastating all over again.

Really sorry for your loss. I have also had a mmc recently. FWIW early mcs are usually the result of genetic abnormalities that you cannot help and were determined at the time of conception. So there is absolutely nothing you can do to prevent one, apart from all the usual pregnancy advice about what to eat etc. Is there anyway you can get an earlier scan? A lot of places will do an 8 week "reassurance scan" in cases such as ours. At this stage a heart beat should be visible. Try the EPU at your local hospital, or maybe go private. I am definitely going to push for one, as if I had got a scan at 8 weeks I could have had my ERPC much sooner (probably no later than 10 weeks), instead I was nearly 15 weeks (with a 6ish week pregnancy).

As with the above, it may have been due to genetic abnormalities last time, who knows. However, it may be worth taking a vitamin B6 supplement (50mg daily). Do some research, it has been proven to help prevent miscarriages. Take along with your folic acid and a pregnancy multi. Good luck.

I am taking a pregnancy multivit that has b6 and folic acid in so fingers crossed.I think i may see if i can get an earlier scan.

Feeling for you, think I have seen you on forums before. I to had m/ c in sep have since had ivf and scan tomorrow bricking it. We were advised gentle exercise only walking yoga no heavy lifting. Goes against other med advice oh no sex if all ok will check that tomorrow. Avoid caffeine and just be you it is NOT anything you do that chanes things. A sympathetic go can get you a scan if not private is about £80 best of luck.

MerryHippo · 23/01/2012 21:45

You must try to rest as much as possible (including mentally relax) and not drive yourself mad.

Request an early scan. If you have the money you can get one privately if the NHS wont do it, although they may well do it for you, especially if you push for it and tell your doctor your worries.

I have two children, but have also had two early miscarriages. It is devastating and very hard to relax and not worry. But do try to think positively. Good luck x

I was prescribed a low dose of aspirin by my doctor following a mc, might be worth asking your GP if that would be worth doing?
After a mmc and I suspect another very early mc I went on to have a successful pregnancy, but the anxiety of it going wrong is hard to avoid if you have had a mc. Like bonzo77 says, there probably isn't anything you can do, but look after yourself generally.

frazzled74 · 24/01/2012 06:15

thanks for all your reassurances. I think i will treat myself to some new books and dvds and have a "switch off" couple of hours every day. Even if i get an early scan i will still have to sit tight for a month. Looking back, i think that my pregnancy symptoms were becoming weaker in weeks 8-12 last time, it just didnt register at the time, so i will probably be symptom spotting .

Sounds a great plan to have you relaxing time every day a scan at around 8-9 weeks or even 10 weeks is v reassuring as risk of m/c then v v low. I find being distracted helps maybe friends can visit cinema best of luck will be keeping fingers crossed
