I have now been sent a letter from my local hospital saying I need to have a Hysterosalpingogram done, to check my fallopian tubes and uterus.

The letter says to ring the clinic on day 1 of my period, and they will book me in, but I must abstain from sex before the appt. and for 7-14 days afterwards.

Now, my question is, if I can't have sex, do I still take me Clomid, which I would normally take on days 2 through 6 of my cycle?

Personally I can't see the point of taking it if we can't hae sex, as if the Clomid does make me ovulate we can't have intercourse?!

Please help me Mumsnetters, I feel like I'm drowning in a sea of baby making data.Sad

Hello!
I'm on Clomid too and had my HSG last cycle (don't worry about this- it's really not that bad). At my hospital they wanted to do it between cd5 (after period) and 10 (before ovulation) and I was told that if I felt like it I could try that cycle. However, I have heard of some women spotting after an HSG (my husband wouldnt touch me with a bargepole if this was the case) so I decided not to take Clomid that cycle and roll it over to the cycle after.
X

Hi MrsHY1, I think I'm going to do that too, as it says to abstain from sex before and after the Hysterosalpingogram then I think it's a waste to take the Clomid as we won't be able to DTD on the days that I would potentially be most fertile.

I'm glad you say the HSG wasn't too bad, as the letter with the instructions and details they sent from the hospital make it sound like it will hurt and make you a bit sore, so I feel quite reassured that you didn't find it too bad!

Thanks!!

As you can only take Clomid for a limited number of cycles, I wouldn't take it for a cycle where we couldn't try, personally.

HSG not too bad just take a couple of painkillers an hour before appt. Works a treat. I was lucky I had barely any spotting either.

I was told not to try before my HSG (the liquid could swoosh an embryo into your tubes and cause an ectopic) but I could straight away afterwards. I have never heard of anyone advised to wait 7-14 days after a HSG to carry on ttc.

Perhaps I read it wrong then, but I'm sure it said abstain from day 1 (1st day of peroid, until either 7 or 14 days after), I get the letter out later and recheck it!

I have decided, going along with the wisdom of Mumsnet, that I will not take the Clomid on the cycle I have the HSG done, as it seems a bit of a waste.

So far I have been given 3 cycles (months) worth of Clomid, is there a limit to how many they will give you?

If I haven't got a BFP after the 3 cycles will they even let me have have more Clomid, or will they do some tests to check the Clomid is even working?

Grrr, so may questions, and such a long time to get a appt at the hospital clinic (like 4-5 months).Seems like all my baby making months are being wasted by waiting ages between appointments iyswim?
