Using cranberry extract - any experts out there?

This will be my 2nd cycle TTC #2 (didn't have to try with #1!!) and think that we didn't hit the 'right' day last month because I got cystitis/urinary infection quite badly and, for obvious reasons, didn't want to S let alone SWI. I don't know when I ov so this is judged only on hindsight & the lack of BFP...

As soon as I got the infection, I saw the GP, got antibiotics & popped into Holland & Barrett & got some cranberry extract tablets & some probiotics.

I'm only taking 1 capsule a day, despite it saying take 2-3 a day, as I can't always remember, so I just take it at the same time as the folic acid.

My questions are:

  1. will this be sufficient to prevent another infection this month
  2. are there any other preventative methods (other than peeing straight after DTD)
  3. will this stop us actually conceiving &
  4. is there likely to be a risk to the foetus?

I can't imagine something as innocuous as cranberry would pose a prob but as 'D(TD) day' approaches, I find myself wondering...

Any advice/info is much appreciated!! :)

Ive just had a quick look as was interested and all I can see on the www, is that some people think taking cranberry in supplemental form or drinking the juice can make you have a girl.

I cant see anything to suggest it tampers with ttc.

I am drinking a glass of cranberry juice every day to try and keep UTI's away, as I had a very nasty one last month. So interested to see what otehrs think.

Thanks fan, that's good to know!! I read on the NHS direct & bupa sites that the juice hasn't been proven to be effective as a treatment but that there was some evidence that extract was a good preventative so hence me buying the capsules.

DH already thinks we're guaranteed another girl (had a testicular torsion some years back & he jokes that his 'boy ball' has been tethered... :o ) so to know I might be assisting that might not go down so well Wink
