I did an OV test yesterday and I didn't have the second line but when I was emptying the bin this eve the OV test DID have a second line - is this what they call an evap line? It would have been Day 13 and I have 32 days cycles.

Hi, it may have been a evap line or just picked up the small amount of LH we always have in our system, even when not ovulating. Best time to do an ovulation test is between 2-7 pm if I remember correctly and try not to have a wee for couple of hours before. Best of luck , hopefully you'll get a positive opk in the next few days.

PopcornMouse · 16/01/2012 09:02

Stick with it :) With a cycle length of 32 days, you'll probably ov somewhere between CD15 and 20 - ovulation on CD13 would give you an epic 19 day LP ;)

Look at the instructions for the test - most of them require the line to be as dark as the control line for a positive. Pale lines are very common. Normally if you test daily you will see the line get darker and darker and then start to fade. The darkest day should be your pre-ov surge. Ov tests are not like pregnancy tests where any line counts as a positive. This is because pregnancy tests detect a hormone that is only present when pregnant whereas ov tests detect a hormone that is present in varying quantities throughout the cycle.

dontcarehow · 16/01/2012 16:22

I'm also a bit confused, so if I did a test on the actual day of ovulation, like say an hour after it happened, would it be positive or not? am I right in saying its positive in the couple of days leading up to it and by the time you actually do ovulate the hormone isn't there any more?

winkle2 · 16/01/2012 16:24

Thank you all for your help :)

dont having combined OPKs with temping, I know that personally I get a positive 24-48 hrs before I ovulate. I have seen other people on here say that they get their positive on the day of ovulation.

I'm not sure how quickly the LH surge dies off to be able to say whether or not you would get a positive an hour after ov, but generally the OPK is detecting LH, the hormone that peaks just before ov.

Another one just starting with the OV sticks (once blasted AF is done with this month!).

So basically - I'm gathering it's not really an exact science - but say if you started using them a week after AF, gradually started to see a darker line, you make sure you were DTDing to make sure you had fresh swimmers hanging around?

I guess it's not the same for everyone - maybe some people see the darker line a few days before OV, others see it the day of, so to be sure to have sperm ready and waiting - just DTD once the line begins to get darker?

Who knew it was this complicated. I was never very good at reading instructions or following recipes to begin with Grin

KatAndKit · 18/01/2012 06:50

bettybat having sperm ready and waiting is good advice for all scenarios.

I have peed on countless ovulation tests. For me, I got the proper LH surge the day before ovulation. Since I did numerous tests, I can be fairly sure that the surge lasted about 36-48 hours. The first day of getting a positive ov test is the best time to have sex. By the second day it might be too late - it's a long way for the little chaps to swim.

Not everyone gets the "fade in" pattern where the line slowly gets darker. Some people go from very pale line to positive pretty much overnight. If you get the fade-in pattern then that is a bonus for you. If you don't, you should be having sex anyway, don't leave it until you get the positive test.

The most important thing is to actually read the instructions and understand what a positive ovulation test is and that faint lines don't actually mean anything.

Hi, i'm also a newbie to ovulation tests.

I have been taking the pill (cerazette) for the last 4 years, me and my partner decided to try for a baby so i stopped taking it at the begining of December. I started my first period on the 29th Dec so i started using OPK's on the 10th of this month. Had negatives for about a week so stopped using them, (thought i had missed this month) was going to start again next month.
Yesterday just had a gut feeling to do one and it came back positive, did one last night and also this monring which also showed up as being positive. But thats day 20 of my cycle? Does this mean that the test is wrong or could i really be ovulating 20 days after my last period?

I'm totally new to all of this so would really appreciate some advice.

eurochick · 19/01/2012 10:37

You could certainly be ovulating 20 days after your last period, particularly as you are just coming off the Pill and your hormones are still trying to settle down.

I ovulated on day 20 last cycle, which was unusually late for me (I usually ov between days 14 and 16).

PopcornMouse · 19/01/2012 10:38

Hi Sophie - that's a different kettle of fish. With cerazette, you may find your first few cycles are a bit longer as your body finds its rhythm again - e.g. I came off Cerazette last year and my first cycle was 6 weeks long, then the next was 5, the next was 4 1/2 etc etc until it settled in to a 31ish day cycle. So it's not unreasonable for you to ovulate on day 20 at all, but it may not be the same day next cycle and you will have to be vigilant :)

I'm one of the (unlucky?) ones that ovulates the same day as I get a +OPK, and I get no fade in either Confused I have had success with the CBFM this month, but they're expensive and not everyone loves them.

Sophie4 · 19/01/2012 10:48

I have heard alot of horror stories about cerazette and to be honest had convinced myself i wasnt going to ovulate atall! I had thought about my body settling down ect, but wasnt sure whether the OPk's could give a false result anyway?
I dont seem to of had a fade either, but i'm not sure as havent tested for a couple of days. Have taken 3 in the last 24hrs thought that have all been +.
If i had a 2 +OPKs yesterday and 1 this morning, does that mean i should be ovulating today or have probably already ovulated?

PopcornMouse · 19/01/2012 11:11

I read all those during my first month off cerazette too! I have a hunch that a lot of those stories come from women who may have PCOS, as the pill (any brand) masks the symptoms. It's also worth noting there are few dozen (a hundred?) horror stories and millions of women who are or have been on it, so I really wouldn't worry.

I'd think you have probably already ovulated if they were all three strong positives (but I could be wrong! I always ov on the first day but I am unusual I think). It's not unusual to get a few + days in a row, though.

Sophie4 · 19/01/2012 11:23

Yes was really scary but i suppose their are loads of women out there that have no problems when coming off it! I guess we will just see how things go then.

Well BD last night, and will again tonight! Hopefully this will be our month!

SweetieDoesIt · 19/01/2012 11:37

Sophie I agree with what Pop says

I was Cerazette too and it took me a while to get my first period when I first came off but then settled into a regular pattern. Although funnily it does seem to be getting shorter (only 24 days this month) Confused. I have had some blood tests done at the Drs and know I am ovulating plus I have used OPK sticks too which gave me the positive.

Good luck

Sophie4 · 19/01/2012 11:51

Yes it took nearly a month for my period to come back which did feel like a long time and that was the worst cycle ever, so heavy and uncomfortable, but what did i expect!? I suppose only time will tell how long it takes to get back into the regular pattern.

Good luck to you also, come back and let us know when you get the good news!

roxybear · 25/01/2021 15:59

Hey ladies, first cycle of TTC so learning as I go!bought some ovulation sticks to help me out. Does this look positive? It looks slightly darker in the pic than it does in real life so I'm not too sure! This is CD11 and I very between 26-28 usually. Have been DTD since day 9 every day so far!
Thank you xSmile
