When to DTD

I have been having trouble concieving, and after tests have been given Clomid and Metformin,Metform everyday, and Clomid on days 2 through 6 of my cycle.
Problem dfeo with me, as hubby had sperm count done and little swimmers are fine apparently.

My question is; when should we be having sex? Straight after taking the last Clomd (day 6), before I stop the Clomid, or just every other day?

So many people tell you so many different old wives tales that I am so confused, and I knew Mumsnet would tell me how it rolls!!

Hi Pippi I would suggest every other day for DTD.

I don't know much about medicated cycles, but a lot of the suggestions about the timing of DTD are to deal with mild male factor problems (giving them time to accumulate and mature).

As sperm can last a few days inside you in good conditions, the every other day timing means there's always some there waiting for the egg as soon as it matures. Also if you miss a day through stress or tiredness, it's not a problem as the sperm will hang around for up to 5 days, and you can replenish it the next day.

Good advice there. I would say that especially as you are not used to spotting ovulation (I am assuming as you have been out on clomid) then every other day would cover your bases, and don't stop at day 14 assuming you have ovulated. If his swimmers are normal then hitting the exact time of ovulation is prob not necessary.

I would say wait till your period stops, which I'm guessing will be around the time you stop taking the clomid and then DTD every other day throughout your whole cycle, definitely don't stop even if you think you've ovulated as clomid can do strange things to your cycle and also your cervical mucus, so it can be difficult to tell. Every other day throughout the cycle is safest unless you are confident you know when you ovulate and you are sufficiently regular that you have advance warning of it so you can be dtd several days before ov is expected.

I've just done my first cycle on Letrozole (similar to Clomid). I took it on days 2-6 and dtd every other day from the end of my period onwards, until I was confident I had ovulated. I eventually ovulated on day 20. Without the drugs I usually ovulate on days 14-16. I know my cycles pretty well, but I am glad we kept going and didn't miss the egg.

Ok, well I don't really know what the "signs" of OV are , as I haven't OV'd for about 2 years now!

I am taking my temp everyday to see if I get a peak, so that next month we'd know when the most fertile time was.

My cycle has been around 41 days, so it's real difficult to know when you are ov'ing.

But I think you're all right, every other day seems the way to go!

I finished the Clomid yesterday and we DTD, so we'll go angain tonight and then every other day from then on out!

My hubby'll think his lucks right in! Although he is sick to death of hearing about cervical mucus, ovu stick, clomid etc!!!

Every other day is definitely the best idea in that case.

BTW, you are not most fertile when you get a temperature peak. Instead you ovulate (and are most fertile around this time) on the last day of your lower temps. This is my chart and where the red lines intersect is where I ovulated. You can see this is a long time (about a week) before my temperatures peaked.
