Temping question

Pipbin · 11/01/2012 22:57

If I don't get a BFP this month I'm planning on temping.
I have a couple of questions. Can anyone recommend a thermometer. I've seen a few on ebay and Amazon but I wanted to see is anyone had first hand experience.

Second question, and I'm being a bit daft hear, which orifice do you use to take the temperature?

Third and final question, I know that you are ment to take it at the same time each day but I get up later at the weekend, does that matter?

Thanks for your help ladies.

Hey, well i could be shot down for this, but i think that as long as its a basal body thermomenter, showing up to 0.2 digits then it will be ok?

I got mine off amazon, its a digital one, it beeps once the temp is taken, and then records it in its memory, so nxt time i turn it on, it flashes up the prev temp measured, which is handy if its stil dark when i take it and then i can record it later in my phone...

I pop mine in my mouth.... think my DH would be shocked if i put it else where while lying in the bed beside him half asleep Blush. But i take mine when im still half asleep, once the alarm goes off, i pop in the therm and techniclly snooze til the temp is done!

I also get up later on wkends, it does make a difference. But now my body is used to waking up at 6am for work, so i do it when i wake up, then roll over and go back to sleep.

however, once i slept in and it did show a diff temp to those at 6am...

Good Luck- hope you get your BFP asap

Any thermometer is fine, as long as it goes to 2 decimal places. You can get them from boots or online, or try your local chemist - mine does them for £1.99.

I tried temping orally, but it was thrown off by whether I slept with my mouth open or not :)

Oooooh I love charting!!

This is the thermometer that I got which seems to work just fine.

I take vaginal temps (or, as we like to call it on the Brookers thread "taking temps fanjolly") as I found them to be much more reliable and consistent than orally.

I take my temp at the same time every day (I set my alarm for 6:30am at weekends!! But then I'm a bit of a geek) or if that's not possible, within an hour of my usual time. If I can't do that, then I don't bother taking them.

I also don't bother taking my temps if I've had more than a small glass of wine the night before (alcohol makes my temps sky-rocket) or if I've got up for a wee within a couple of hours of the normal temp taking time. I find it makes it easier for me and Fertility Friend to read my charts if I leave out rogue/inaccurate temperatures

Good luck!

Any digi thermometer with 2 decimal places is fine.

Orally.

At weekends, it depends what stage of the cycle I am at. If I think I am about to ov and want to know, I will set my alarm for the same time as for work, temp and then go back to sleep. If I am at a less critical part of the cycle where a bit of a dip or peak won't make much difference to the overall chart, I just take it whenever I wake up. It took me a few months of temping and getting to know my cycle to fall into this pattern though.

Thank you ladies.
God willing I shan't need this information but it's good to know what you have found.
