Smear tests whilst ttc

Hi all other ttc-ers!

I like to have an annual smear but was planning to ttc. - do I need to wait?

Secondly, someone told me that having smears too regularly can weaken the cervix increasing the likelihood of premature birth etc... Surely that can't be right?! I've had lots due to having once had abnormalities, and I don't want to stop having the annual ones (which I pay for as NHS only once every three years as mine have all been normal the last few times)

Thanks for reading

Weaken your cervix? What a lot of tosh. It's only a little spatula. Think what a baby (and a cock!) does to your cervix.

You keep having them if that's what you want, it'll make no difference to TTC.

Tadah i just had mine done before Xmas, and have been TTC for 9 months now. Like you, I need to have them annually due to abnormalities. I told the nurse that we were TTC and she did not mention any issue with having a smear. In my very humble opinion, I would rather know that everything is ok up there so that my inners are well prepared for when i do finally get pg!!! Like Rue said, keep having them, it will not make any difference to TTC :)

I had mine done the month I conceived. I also had a dildocamscan the week before so a lot of messing around up there. Clearly it didn't do any harm!

I would arrange one for about 8-10 days after your next period. You won't be bleeding any more and you likely won't have ovulated yet either. Not that it would do any harm if you had, but at least you won't have to mental about it. American women get a smear every year, even if they are pregnant.
