Bright red spotting before AF? Usual after BF?

Am 12 dpo. I definitely o'd - am charting. My temps have been dropping over the last few days, so I'm expecting AF. Not pregnant: using protection.

I don't know how long my cycles/LP are/is: I finished BF two months ago and have only had one cycle since. I didn't have a proper 'bleed' for that cycle: just some v light spotting off and on for a few days.

This morning I found some blood on wiping. When I used a tampon there were streaks all down the outer case of bright red blood, making me think that my flow was starting (lovely...). However when I removed the tampon about 2hrs later, there was nothing on it.

A few hours after that I found another big drop of bright red blood when wiping.

I've googled this and all the information I can find it about brown blood before your period - but mine is bright red.

Is this my period? Should I expect this after stopping BF? Do other people get bright red spotting before AF?

About 2 days before af starting I get 1 lot of bright red blood then nothing for a couple of days this is only since having implant taken out but has happened each month since

I hope that's what it is. All I want is a normal period... Is that too much to ask for?!?!

And now it's totally dried up. Am so fed up with this. So so so fed up with this.

I get spotting before AF - a good 5-7 days before AF - and no-one seems to know why. Prepare yourself for TMI - it is usually pale brown, then goes a rusty colour, then goes almost purple and then my actual period arrives! I was convinced it was a progesterone issue but I've had that tested at 7dpo and it was really good.
I've noticed twice that the spotting has started with a red breakthrough bleed sounding a bit like yours - very light - then has gone brown. This happened last night - boo hiss.

Thanks MrsHY1. Reassuring to hear about the progesterone issue. Now all I have to do is hope that I get a proper AF soon..

Boo hiss indeed to the breakthrough bleeding... It's silly: I'm so desperate to get a normal period, and once I do, I'll be desperate for it to go away again!
