100mg of Clomid?

Aworryingtrend · 04/01/2012 11:44

Hi all

Just been told by the consultant that I should up my Clomid dosage to 100mg next month, as 2 cycles of 50mg hasn't worked. mY progesterone levels have been 2.1 and 5.3, "very low indeed" were the Consultant's words.

Did going up to 100mg work first time for anyone? Did you get (m) any side-effects?

TIA

Hi worrying am in the same boat - currently on a month if because the clinic couldn't monitor me over Christmas but due to start 100mg when AF next arrives. So no experience to share but bumping this in the hope we hear some nice positive BFP stories..

Very weirdly though, I think I might actually have ov'd this month while not taking any. Had lots of ewcm (which I'd never had till Clomid) for ages and then just as it was going away had aching and twinges on one ovary. Did SWI but not holding out any hope though. But odd considering I didn't Ov when I was actually taking it!

Hi highlove, ooh fingers crossed for you!!! I have read a gazillion a few Clomid threads on here and a few posts have said how it was after they stopped taking Clomid, ie to have a break from it or after the 6 months that they got pregnant the next minth. So don't rule it out!

Thanks worrying, would be amazing but I'm not feeling too positive. Just feeling a bit like it might not ever happen at the moment.. Can't picture being pg anymore..

Anyway, enough wallowing. When are you due to start 100mg?

Aworryingtrend · 05/01/2012 12:18

I know the feeling. I was so sure that 50mg of Clomid would work for me, as it does for a lot of people, and now I am staring 100mg in the face and trying to block out the voice saying "well what if 100mg doesn't work?"

What a cheery thought for the day! I'm CD31 at the moment and my cycles are usually 33 days (although wierdly last month was 42, perhaps as I'd been ill) so anytime soon really. Luckily we don't have a lot planned for the next couple of weeks so the timing for starting 100mg is pretty good.

What about you?

OP posts:
highlove · 05/01/2012 18:14

Yep I definitely know how you feel. This might sound ridiculous, but I didn't even see 50mg as 'intervention', more just a helping hand, so that meant there wasn't really anything wrong with me. All of sudden I feel like I have a more serious problem to worry about.

Hope AF puts in an appearance sooner rather than later for you. Would love to hear how you get on with it. If I'm right about ov'ing then it was new year's eve or day, so AF due in ten days or so, sometime weekend after this one I reckon.

highlove · 05/01/2012 18:15

By the way, what monitoring are you having?

Aworryingtrend · 06/01/2012 08:20

I'll definitely keep you posted on how its going. I've been told to ring the fertility nurse at the hospital on day 1 and she will arrange a scan for day 12. Depending on what that shows I may have a scan on day 18 as well as I have a longer cycle, but they think if the Clomid works then it will shorten the cycle IYSWIM. Then I guess I will have my usual Day 21 blood test although I usually have it around day 25. I don't know, it all seems a bit hit and miss TBH, I wish it was more of an exact science!

Best of luck for next weekend if you are testing then.

worrying - I conceived on my first month of 100mg. Nothing happened at all for me at 50mg and then at 100mg, "pop" and I conceived the child who is now refusing to go to sleep upstairs.

So it can happen!

By the way, before I conceived, I had progesterone levels lower than a menopausal woman or a man, so in some cases it appears the body is able to right itself and I took progesterone supplements just in case for the first three months.

And the side effects were just the same for me as at 50mg. Good luck.

skyper · 07/01/2012 14:42

hi guys...
well i took 50mg of clomid last cycle...to get progesterone levels of an amazing 2 on d21 and 2 on d28!! bloody marvellous eh?!?!? so ive started 100mg of clomid today.... choked with the cold, and on 50mg i was a blubbering mess......so i cant say i am looking forward to the next few days but if it works then ill give anything a go!!!
rubyroo... i didnt think you could get progesterone supplements in the uk????

RubyrooUK · 07/01/2012 14:55

skyper my doctor put me on daily progesterone pessaries - got them from the chemist so they didn't seem to be unavailable. Supplementing with progesterone is quite an old-style strategy though I think, so maybe it's not routine in the UK anymore?

highlove · 07/01/2012 15:24

Hello, sorry if I'm being thick...but if progesterone in super low (mine was a pathetic 3 last 50mg cycle) then doesn't it just mean you didn't actually ovulate? In which case why would you supplement with progesterone, if you not ov'd then surely no point? Or am I wrong about that?

skyper · 07/01/2012 15:30

highlove.... to be honest i have no idea..the whole thing confuses me regularly!!! my prog was 2, on d21 & d28..... im willing to try anything...just want to have some options to ask about if this dosent work.....
does anyone know anything about metaformin????

RubyrooUK · 07/01/2012 15:49

I was put on progesterone after conceiving for three months because I have a bit of a history of low progesterone even if I do manage to ovulate. My cycles are all wonky.

I did have to ovulate and conceive first though, which I struggled with, so the progesterone issue was just another thing on top.

highlove · 07/01/2012 16:21

Thanks Ruby. Just in relation to another thread I'm on (and problem I seem to have)...did you have spotting pre-AF? I seem to have it whether I do or I don't ovulate but I think it's worse when I don't. I don't have endo or cervical erosion so I think it may be progesterone-related...my consultant isn't bothered but it worries me.

RubyrooUK · 07/01/2012 16:36

highlove* I don't really have periods at all, so no spotting. Sorry not to be more help. Sometimes my oestrogen crashes, sometimes progesterone. After three years of tests, the doctors were no closer to finding out and just tried Clomid, which helped me at 100g to conceive my DS.

Hope things improve for you soon. It is just so frustrating when you can't work out what is happening with your hormones.

highlove · 07/01/2012 17:32

Thanks ruby

Aworryingtrend · 09/01/2012 09:16

Morning all,

AF arrived on saturday, so I started on the 100mg of Clomid last night and will be taking it til Thursday. No side-effects at all thus far and I slept like a log last night so fingers crossed it stays that way.

RubyrooUK · 09/01/2012 19:54

Good luck worrying.

Aworryingtrend · 10/01/2012 12:43

Thanks, no side effects so far still. I've got a scan booked in for next wednesday to check the follicles. Fingers crossed that this month I might ovulate for the first time in 16 years?!

OP posts:
highlove · 10/01/2012 21:05

Hi worrying, glad all quiet on the side effects so far, hope it stays that way. And most of all hope it has the desired effect.

Aworryingtrend · 18/01/2012 12:15

Hi all, thought I'd update as I had my scan today- I think it's semi good news- I had 2 dominant follicles, one at 12mm and the other at 8mm- given this is only day 12 that seems reasonable? I'm getting rescanned on monday to see if they've grown. I am sat here now willing them to grow! Have stupidly been googling and reading stories of other people who had 12mm follicles at Day 12 but then shrunk without ovulating Sad , its so hard having no control over this.

How are you getting on Highlove and Ruby?

OP posts:
RubyrooUK · 18/01/2012 18:03

Hi worrying, I'm alright thanks. Crossing my fingers for you and your follicles. I know it's so annoying to have no control but at least you are showing a reaction, which is the positive thing to remember.

Incidentally, after not ovulating for five years (except once on Clomid leading to my DS) I ovulated naturally at the end of last year. Weird but amazing. Less amazing was that I did get pregnant and lost the baby after five weeks, but I am trying to remember that I couldn't ovulate at all for many years, so it's all progress.....

highlove · 18/01/2012 19:14

Hi worrying that's sounding really great. Fingers crossed, I think they're much more likely to keep growing than not. Was lining etc all ok too?

Am currently on CD4 and so third day of the tablets. Seem ok for symptoms so far though have a hideous cold so who knows?!

Brookesr · 20/01/2012 14:14

Hi All

So glad to hear people in the same situation as me! Ive been tic for around 4 years then an off the comment to my GP after seeing him for a chest infection got him investigating! I have just turned 39, after a year of tests I have now been prescribed Clomid 100g. I have had various internal scans to check my follicles and as same as you "Worrying" had 2 dominant follicles at 13mm on day 11. Had another scan on day 15 for the consultant to be actually smiling and saying she is actually witnessing on the scan ovulation! I just hope my DH and I have had enough fun for me to fall pregnant on my first cycle of clomid. Got to have another scan Wednesday 25 Jan (don't know why) and blood tests. Will keep you all posted. Good luck to everyone xx
