Am 11 days late. Used a Clearblue test on Tuesday (got a neg) but still no af so used the 2nd test today - immediately got a neg but then the test never finished by giving the second line. Lady on helpline says that the test is thus unreliable and I need to test again. Can't be bothered to go and waste more money on tests which will probably come up neg so will wait till next week and see if my af arrives.
Can't believe I screwed up something as simple as a pregnancy test! Apparently I should have held it flat but I held it vertically. Really wanted to know because am going out tonight and don't want to have to abstain from wine if not pregnant. So annoying!

Fingers crossed you are Cupcakes. Bummer about the test though.

starlover · 13/01/2006 12:59

hmm can't you go to doctor and get it done free?
do you have anywhere near you iwth a sexual health clinic type thingy? they'll test you free as well!

purpleturtle · 13/01/2006 13:01

Takes 5 days at our doctors. Think cupcakes was after something closer to 5 minutes!

My gp is just round the corner but I haven't got time to wait around for appointment (am house training puppy!).

To be honest I don't think I am pg - absolutely no symptoms other than a bit more tired than usual (but I'm blaming that on the dog).

Do you have a lloyds farmacy nearby? If you take in a urine sample they'll test it for you, not free but costs only 6 quid compared to clearblue which cost anything between 8/12 depending on whether you buy digital or not.

Fimbo · 13/01/2006 13:04

Cupcakes go and get another test, we want to know

starlover · 13/01/2006 13:05

yeah go and get a bloody test! you can't just come on and taunt us iwth a possible pregnancy!

pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?

cupcakes · 13/01/2006 13:06

There is a Lloyds Pharmacy (with a lovely pharmacist) in town. And she knows I am trying to conceive. However I prefer getting neg results at home on my own so I don't have to do all the stiff upper lip 'oh never mind, didn't want to be pregnant anyhow' jollity.
Think will just avoid alcohol tonight to be on the safe side and wait and see if af is here by Monday. I really hate wasting money on a test only to get af an hour later. Stingy aren't I?

It is quite common to get false negatives when using pregnancy tests but not false positives. I used the Clearblue digital ones - as I thought saying pregnant/not pregnant would be clearer than 'is that a line or not?' I had two 'not pregnants' and like you my af still hadn't arrived so I used another type a few days later - was a positive - I am now 38 weeks! There are loads of mners who have had false negativies.

Do you want to get pregnant? If so I wouldn't get bladdered just in case - but there are loads of people who would have drank themselves stupid over Xmas and now found that they are pregnant - I have a stack of antenatal friends from dd1 who did.

Fimbo · 13/01/2006 13:09

Good god woman, you can't leave us dangling until Monday.

cupcakes · 13/01/2006 13:10

I've just realised it's Friday 13th. No way I'm testing again today.
Plus I really don't feel anything. My instinct says nay.

I will let you off then, but you had better post the result on Monday or else! (or email me!)

cupcakes · 13/01/2006 13:13

In both previous pregnancies I got a positive before af was due. I think they were ClearBlue (although may hve been Boots own).

Poundland sometimes do a pack of 2 tests for a quid. Exactly the same as the chemists would use.

megandsoph · 13/01/2006 14:07

cupcakes get some pee in a pot and take it to your local chemist they will test it there and then for about a fiver

PeachyClair · 13/01/2006 14:15

DS2 and 3 were negative clear blue also, it was the sdainsburys one that got it right in the end.

cupcakes · 13/01/2006 14:17

there're no cheapie shops in town and I don't want to do it in front of a pharmacist. Thanks though . Am ok with waiting.
