13 years on the pill!

i spent 13 years on the pill and all of it most definately NOT wanting to get pregnant. Now i've been off it for nearly 3 years as i'd dearly love a baby and it's just not happening. I somehow feel i'm being punished for messing with mother nature or i never really needed to be on it in the first place..just a general rant really...grrr!! Anyone else feel this way :(

Sympathise completely as I'm in exactly the same situation. I went on the pill at 15 and came off it at 26 ish. My cycles regulated almost immediately but in just over two years nothing has happened. So frustrating.

pinkbeachchick · 30/12/2011 22:49

I feel the same, 18 years on the pill sure I didn't want kids...then a huge change of mind and I feel like my body is punishing me. My cycles haven't regulated in over a year and given my age I feel my like time might run out.

FunnysInTheGarden · 30/12/2011 22:52

sorry to hear all your stories. I was on the pill for 20 years, came off it and was pregnant within 2 months. Had a MMC, but went on to have DC. It will happen and I doubt the pill is to blame. Chins up folks Smile

I think what the pill can do is disguise other issues. When I stopped the pill I discovered I had pcos but the pill had hidden it. Have you all been to the gp and had tests and got your partners sperm tested? As blonde said maybe you would have troubles anyway but never knew as you were on the pill.

Having said that my ovaries are now clear and I am 8 weeks pregnant after changing my diet and accupuncture and so having a grim diagnosis let me know how to tackle it!

blondebaby111 · 31/12/2011 10:39

I have had all sorts of tests and no obviious problems with either of us. My cycle returned o normal straight away although coming of the pill left me with headaches and anxiety attacks. Because there isn't any diagnosis we don't know what the solution is ,i have thought about acupunture but does it hurt????
Congratulations to you LIG1979 :)

Snap with LIG1979 - the regular periods induced by the combined pill had hidden thd fact I have pcos. After a year of trying I went to my GP as I was worried, he dismissed my fears as I was "too young" to have fertility problems. We went private - didn't need ivf medication sorted it. Now have two children.

3isamagicnumber · 31/12/2011 11:28

I was on the pill for about 13 years too - came off it earlier this year after we got married. Have been ttc since but with no joy. Saw the GP (as had 4 MCs) and he said in the grand scheme of things we havent been trying that long and it could just be bad luck. Apparently its all easiet said than done - but Im impatient!!

All I can suggest is lots of SWI (!), healthy diet and exercise, taking folic acid etc. Heres wishing us all good luck!! Smile

PopcornMouse · 31/12/2011 11:59

3 I'm pretty sure after 4 MCs you should be referred for tests - I'd suggest seeing a different GP at your practise?

blondebaby111 · 31/12/2011 13:55

What medication did u go on chubb...i,'m considing maybe having a private dianogsis. I have very high immune system and have read that sometimes your body can then attack the embryo before u even know your pregnant but nhs tests an,'t pick this up. Good luck to you all trying...positive thinking will hopefully bring positive results x

Metformin - was pregnant in two months. Didn't need it for dc2.

Chubfuddler · 31/12/2011 14:01

In case you were wondering consultation with gynae x 2, battery of blood, sperm and post coital tests and drugs cost less than 500 quid.

PopcornMouse · 31/12/2011 15:34

post-coital tests? Shock

Chubfuddler · 31/12/2011 15:44

Yep, you have to shag the night before and then basically it's a smear to get some of your cervical mucus with sperm still in it to see if you have hostile mucus. Not fun but v thorough.

blondebaby111 · 02/01/2012 11:39

What do you mean by hostile mucas??

Snap, I was on the pill for 14 years, came off it and no periods for 6 months, and they only restarted because I begged the doctor for medication to restart my cycle (Norethisterone). We have now been trying 15 months, I am on my second cycle of Clomid and am still not ovlating.
