Morning ladies!

I have bleated on about spotting before AF a lot now on these conception boards and have realised that it does seem to happen to a log of people, can be for many different reasons and also people can be fobbed off by the doctors as "nothing to worry about".

My periods were normal until last August when I started getting brown spotting 4 days before AF came in full force.

I have googled and googled and there are lots of threads of women TTC with this mysterious affliction, but they only last about 20 posts so you can never find out what the outcome was. What were they treated for? Did they manage to conceive? And the one that I'm always desperate to know the minute I start spotting every month; did they get the spotting the month they conceived?

So I want this thread I be a place for TTC mumsnetters who spot before AF to come and share their experiences and stories and support. The information out there is so conflicted so it would be so good to keep this one going until we get some answers and some BFPs!!

You could try some progesterone cream - as that’s the usual cause of spotting. Your body might not produce enough to hold the pregnancy. Look back on the previous comments for the cream not sure if your UK or USA xx

I’ve just had 2 back to back CPs/ early miscarriages 😢 and I spot for 3 days before AF. I have had all of the blood tests and all come back normal and my progesterone is great but I think it crashes quickly causing the spotting and probably ending the pregnancies. My GP is taking me seriously and I’ve got an appointment with him next week to be referred to the gynaecologists as he agrees this is not right. I didn’t test until after AF both times. The first one I had no spotting before my pfp but the second one (last cycle) I did spot before but it stopped the day AF was due

@allgoodthings84 I'm sorry 😞 I used to have the same issue of progesterone crashing, any blood tests taken after ovulation would always have really low progesterone levels and the doctors would always assume I just hadn't ovulated and that's why the levels were low but I always knew I had because I'd taken my temps. I'm glad your doctor is taking you seriously though. Good luck with the next few months! @Yas90 I think you do eventually get your period if you don't ovulate but it can take longer to arrive (at least that's as far as I know, I'm no expert!)

allgoodthings84 · 02/12/2022 20:54

@burtle4 my 7dpo progesterone bloods were high both times I’ve had them taken so maybe it’s not that. I just thought it crashes after. By high I mean 51.5 one time and 52.6 the next time. I just don’t know what’s going on

Im from Australia its saturday and i just rang my Gyno and explained to him im 1day late for my period still having brown discharge definitely not pregnant and all he can tell me is that he is no concerned i could possibly be having a lighter period this month and hes bringing it down to hormones as hes done all the tests and nothing is wrong. He told me not to stress wait a couple of days and see how i go. Easy for the professionals to say this when its not happening to them.

I’m baaaaack. Trying for number 3 - although not trying as hard - not temping or using the ovulation sticks etc. I actually feel good about not having a third but we are trying for 6 months to see what happens. However. The dreaded SPOTTING. This drives me bananas. I’ve been on the same regime although I do drink one tea a day (obviously I’m not trying that hard I guess haha) but the spotting just drives me nuts. I’ve ordered a progesterone cream to see if it stops. Once we decide to truly move on from babies my husband is getting the snip and I’m going back on an IUD so I never have to think about this ever again. Really hoping all you ladies found your magical solution. This spotting was even more than normal so is my uterine lining just falling out of me now? I see other posters who seem to indicate it has gotten worse with age so I suppose that tracks. But very grateful to have had two wonderful kiddos despite it!

RealSmart1459 · 21/08/2023 04:54

@allgoodthings84 your situation sounds so much like mine!! Did you ever find a solution?

allgoodthings84 · 21/08/2023 06:30

@RealSmart1459 no solution but I ovulated the day after I posted and I’m literally now leaving to go into hospital at 39+2 weeks pregnant to have my baby by planned c section! I still have no idea why it kept happening but it didn’t stop me in the end. Good luck 😊

burtle4 · 21/08/2023 09:26

@allgoodthings84 that's amazing news! Congratulations and good luck for your imminent birth!x

Unfortunately I still had no luck after loosing our baby at 19 weeks in feb 2021. I’ve never got pregnant naturally since and IVF has failed twice :( it’s been devastating. But I found out my spotting was due to adenomyosis causing low prog but even when supplementing prog I didn’t get pregnant because adeno caused so much inflammation.

I think for the ladies where it’s a low prog issue and they supplant they get pregnant don’t they but for me unfortunately it was a deeper issue.

Wishing everyone so much luck! I did feel hopeful with this thread and prog pretty much working for everyone but that soon got shattered. Xx

burtle4 · 21/08/2023 18:22

I'm so sorry @Loz2467 that's truly devastating. I really hope that it happens for you one day when you're least expecting it. Look after yourself x

Loz2467 · 21/08/2023 21:35

Thank you so much! Xxx @burtle4
