im ttc and have a 100lbs to lose. no word of a lie! although i do have an underactive thyroid but have recently just begun to lose weight so ideally would like to lose weight first but but if i do get pregnant i'll still be happy. im not trying hard but still hoping!

Hello ladies, so glad I found this thread, thought I might be a bit mad for wanting to lose weight while ttc, the 2 ideas don't seem to go together do they?! I have 2 1/2, almost 3 stone to lose before I'm at an ideal weight but to lose 2 would be brill and I'd feel a lot better for it and more prepared for carrying a baby. I put on almost 5 stone with my dd and if I do that now I'll be heading for 18 stone, which at 5ft 3 is not good! good luck and let me know ifyou find any magic way!

happybubbles20 · 02/01/2012 20:24

Also glad I found this thread. Like Amish I have around 3 stone to lose and would like to begin ttc in the next year or so. Finding it hard, even with such a great reason, to do so. Christmas indulgence hasn't helped :-(

Aworryingtrend · 03/01/2012 08:41

Hi all, I have a stone to lose and have been doing WW since September (have lost ten pounds so far, but probably regained a few pounds over Christmas) when the consultant told me that it would help me to conceive if I lost weight, as weight can be a factor in ovulation, and I am not ovulating even after 2 cycles of Clomid.

yellowflowers · 04/01/2012 00:01

Took two and half years but I conceived and have bmi of 41. Pregnancy was fine. I did ovulate each month though. Apparently weight is issue when it comes to conception only if it stops you ovulating. Good luck.

celebmum · 04/01/2012 10:33

aaaarrgh! how am i supposed to wait 10 more days..!?!?! Confused

I'm sooo tired, my nipples (paticularly the right one) are sore and ive had a few mild twingy type cramps....

celebmum · 04/01/2012 10:34

Fluttz · 05/01/2012 22:24

lol celebmum..good luck anyway ;)

really yellowflowers? congrats... and that gives me ALOT of hope! thank you :)

yellowflowers · 05/01/2012 23:02

Yea really flutzz. But despite showing some signs of pcos on scans I always had monthly periods - cycle between 28 and 35 days but usually one or other, with clear signs of ovulation (ewcm and thermal shift). Took two and a half years and we were about to start iui and clomid (privately - too fat for nhs) but I got my bfp the week before due to start. Some clinics won't treat high bmi women but I went to the uch attached one at the Eastman dental hospital on gray's inn road in London. Gosh - it was so important to me then and now (dd just turned 1) I can barely remember the name. Centre for reproductive and genetic health I think. Dr Serhal.

Fluttz · 06/01/2012 14:54

aww so glad everything worked out for you YellowFlowers! I havent seen doctors about ttc or even considered being tested for pcos, but Im pretty sure I do have it. Im not sure if I ovulate or not. I have periods every month (35 days in between each one) and sometimes if Im overly stressed then it goes irregular but after 7 years I am finally at a good tsh level and have started to lose a little bit of weight. if Im being realistic I should finish my studies first (aged 25 but a mature student in first year) and lose atleast 80 lbs first before properly ttc but we figure that for now we'll just see how it goes without contraception, and if it happens, great! if not, we will do medical checks after ive graduated.
hearing your story makes me feel really hopeful, i thank u for that :)

yellowflowers · 06/01/2012 19:08

There's a great American book when you do get pregnant called Big, beautiful and pregnant. Not patronising and genuinely helpful.

Fluttz · 07/01/2012 15:13

thanks, will have a look :)

amish3886 · 07/01/2012 22:10

Happybubbles, I'm same, I have NO willpower and love food but I am just not going to buy the bad stuff and that way I can't physically eat it! I'm hoping to be down by 31/4 lbs this week when I weigh myself. That will make me 13 stone, stil far too heavy for my height but a step in the right direction!
Fluttz, if you're only "messing about" (as me and my friend who's also ttc like to call it when we were not being v careful) I wouldn't worry about PCOS or anything, just try to get yourself a little healthier and see what happens, you might be v surprised! My DD as conceived after I had stopped trying! :)

YankNCock · 07/01/2012 22:14

I'm 12 weeks with my third pregnancy, and probably need to loose about 6-7 stone. I was about a stone heavier with my last pregnancy (1st pregnancy ended in MC).

I have PCOS, and it took a year to get pregnant the first time because my cycles were so irregular. Then after the MC it took 3 months to get pregnant with DS, and this time it only took a month!

So it can be done.

amish3886 · 07/01/2012 22:34

Also, am struggling this month as always with waiting after I think I've ovulated to take a test! I have been seriously "trying" this month and now, just a few days after I have finished ovulating I can't stop weeing, feel really worn out, have sore boobs..................and am probably just coincidentally getting ill but still my mind starts to play tricks on me!my cycles are so messed up that I am never certain when I ovulate so it's all just pot lucka dn wears me out thinking about it all! Sorry for the rant, just feel the need!

Fluttz · 07/01/2012 23:01

aww thank you Amish, yeh ive decided not to focus on it too much at the moment, but im sooo broody! haha.. last year was bad, so many people i knew either had a baby or got pregnant. was difficult. but recently im in a much healthier place (mentally).
how old is your daughter?
i think its so wonderful seeing so many people who against the odds have children cos for years i thought im not guna be able to have any as that whats doc told me to expect when i was 18 (without fertility tests)..

good luck with ur test... hope u get the positive! i know how it can get, thats why ive stopped thinking about it... too much! lol

Fluttz · 07/01/2012 23:02

congrats Yank, on your pregnancy, hope it goes well for you! i have approx 6-7 stones to lose too.. are the docs and midwifes being cruel? im so afraid of that

amish3886 · 07/01/2012 23:33

I know, everywhere I look people are preggars or giving birth, I'm addicted to OBEM too, haha!
DD is 2, 3 in April, a v challenging little girl but lovely all the same and can't wait to give her a sibling!
I know quite a few ppl who stoppped trying or conceived against the odds, 1 lady who now has 4 children after being told she infertile! So never despair and I'm sure you'll be fine when the time is right. Thanks for the good luck, I'll be taking a test as soon as I know it can be positive ( I may have really stupidly done one today Blush couldn't help myself!

Bubbaloo · 07/01/2012 23:43

I was around 15/16 stone when pg with ds1 and ds2.Both textbook pregnancies,no gestational diabetes and 2 very healthy babies.
I'm now another 5 stone heavier Blush and fell pg in Oct of last year.Sadly I had a miscarriage last week,at 10 weeks and would love to lose some weight before ttc again, but at 38,I really don't want to waste too much time.
I also have PCOS and it did take a couple of year ttc ds1,so I would imagine the weight couldn't have helped.

amish3886 · 07/01/2012 23:47

Hi bubbaloo, sorry to hear about your MC. I'm sure you know you'll prob be extra fertile at mo so why not keep trying and crack on witht he weight los at same time? You can still lose weight while pregnant if careful not to over do it, that's what I'm planning on doing.

YankNCock · 08/01/2012 10:57

Fluttz, no, I wouldn't say anyone has really commented this time around. Last time I saw a registrar who started going on about me exercising more, even though I had SPD and was having trouble walking! He was just a total idiot though.

There will be the odd thing here or there, like you'll probably be classed as 'high risk' due to BMI, you'll probably have to do the glucose tolerance test. I had to go in for a special consultation a few weeks before birth to check they could get an epidural in if I needed one.

Try not to worry, you have just as much right to be pregnant as anyone else! Good luck.

Bubbaloo, hope you'll be on another antenatal thread soon, miss you.
