No you can't. You can only conceive as a result of sex which happens on the day of ovulation or one of the five days before that. Perhaps 6 or 7 days if some superhero sperm is involved.

However, unless you are mystic meg, predicting when you are going to ovulate is less easy. If you have a regular 28-30 day cycle, sex between days 10 and 18 of your cycle on an every other day basis ought to make sure you don't miss the window.

Well you are doing it too early then. Really the best strategy is to make the time to do it 2-3 times a week every week (except period week when it defintely won't work). Or invest in a gadget like the cbfm which tells you when your high and peak days are.

The egg only lives for a maximum of 24 hours after ovulation. But sperm live on average 3 days. So if you have sex on Wednesday and then your ovulation happens on Friday, you still have a very good chance. If you are seriously ttc though you do need to make time to have the sex even if planning it is not so spontaneous and romantic. Otherwise you won't get pregnant if you don't have sex in your fertile week. As I say, I'd be aiming for 3 times between days 10 and 18.

I second what Kat said.

I personally try to do it every day from when I have completely stopped bleeding until after I have ovulated (I feel it and temp chart), so I start around day 8 of my cycle and usually ovulate between days 14 and 16. If we are feeling particularly energetic we go for every day around the most likely days! I cannot promise this works as I am not pregnant yet but it is maintainable (we have been doing this for months, with both of us in busy full time jobs). If you don't know when you ovulate, every other day from days 10-18 wouldn't be a bad way to go.
