When can I test?

First... I had difficulty conceiving my daughter, so know that pregnancy is unlikely.

We have being trying for a baby, and my period is due next week (lovely fun for xmas). However, by now I normally have cramps and pain. I haven't got them yet.

Hubby says it's just a late month (and as I'm not regular this is possible), but I can't help feeling slightly hopeful. When can I test to get the negative result soonest? That way I won't get too excited and be too upset?
Thanks

The day your period, due, if you want to avoid disappointment! If you're not due til next week then it's way to soon. I'd say 12dpo at least?
