New thread..... let's get going!!

OP posts:
mrsmellow · 13/02/2012 14:18

Congrats pearl - great news!

So, I managed with some running around and negotiation skills to move the meeting slightly and go to my gynae appointment. She did a scan and I have polycystic ovaries Sad which I was afraid was going to be the case based on my long cycles and light periods.. dammit! She's advised giving it another 6 months TTC and then to do some further investigations and probably some clomid... I don't know - there is part of me that wants to just get on and do the clomid now, I don't really see what'll be different in 6 months time (apart from further obsession..) Her reasons were I might get pregnant on my own and save the money on the investigations which are not cheap (all private health care and apparently fertility is not covered)... But - I don't want to wait! I want to get pregnant now! Does anyone have any experience/advice?

Picklestar · 13/02/2012 19:20

Hi all, sorry Ive been absent for a few days, been working nights the whole weekend. So excited by all the newly preggers ladies!

Massive congratulations to Peal and Beeble (Beeble love how you told your husband!!!)

Mellow sorry to hear about the polycystic ovaries and can understand your want to go on Clomid straight away. can't really offer any advice apart from lots of shagging! :)!

Amaze sorry to hear about your sil, I'm kinda banking on being the 1st one pregnant in the family too! hugs!

waves to everyone else. Sending good luck vibes!

I'm trying ovulation sticks at the mo, 1st one last night said I wasnt ovulating was a bit sad!! Considering trying another one tonight! not got a clue when I'm ovulating as periods are 4-6 weeks apart! went to the nurse about the 10 day period, she said it was normal and they can last 15 days, well that was news to me!!!

Is it normal to be browsing websites choosing prams and furniture (Ive already picked a pram I like). Think I'm going mad!!

Beeblebear · 13/02/2012 23:15

Pearl - OMG i know exactly what you mean about not concentrating at work. I didn't get a lick of work done on Friday!

Cazbg · 14/02/2012 10:01

Hey all,

Had a manic weekend hence the lack of contact.

Congratulations to all the preggers ones out there!!

All the same with me - still just waiting for the gynie appointment.... it is just frustrating... especially as the doctor pretty much said she knew exactly what they will do - put me on clomid - but they are no longer allowed to do this - so just have to wait. Also frustrating as due to me not having periods I have no idea if I am pregenent as well and then my mind starts playing tricks on me.... this is all very frustarting!

Hope everyone has great weeks.

pippilongsmurfing · 14/02/2012 10:09

Hello Ladies, joining the thread!
TTC #1 and on Clomid and Metformin. Am currently 15DPO, but am too scared to POAS in case it's a BFN.

I did feel a bit sicky this am, but have like a pre AF backache, but no other pre AF symptoms, so not sure.

drchrissyb · 14/02/2012 12:43

Hello all,

My first time on mumsnet, TTC #1. I've been using CBFM to track my cycle (have been getting peaks when expected). Just had our first month of TTC, POAS today (even though period not due for 2 days) got a BFN :(. Know I shouldn't feel disappointed as its really early days but do. I've been listening to too many stories of people conceiving straight away or when they weren't even trying! No fertility problems as far as I know but it took my mum 2 years to get pregnant and she needed clomid.

DH doesn't want to talk too much about TTC as he thinks we will 'jinx it' and he also doesn't want us to tell anyone else we are TTC, so feeling a bit alone!

Picklestar - I don't know if it is normal but I too have picked out not only a pushchair but also a crib and bouncer! - goddam internet!

Hope everyone has a romantic valentines with their other halves!

pippilongsmurfing · 14/02/2012 15:08

Hello drchrissyb, I'm TTC #1 and on my first go of Clomid. So far too early for me to test, but if AF has not arrived in a couple of days, Boots here I come.

I'm a bit scared to test as I don't want to be disappointed with another BFN.

My DH is sick to death of me talking about TTC, so I now vent on Mumsnet, to save his earhole. Blush

drchrissyb · 14/02/2012 15:32

Hi pippilongsmurfin It's a toss up between wanting to know but risking the disappointment of a BFN isn't it - keeping my fingers crossed for you! How have you been trying before starting clomid?

I am realising after reading most of this thread that I was being a bit naive thinking we would conceive immediately. May have to calm down a bit as I approached the whole thing in military style with vitamins for DH and me plus healthy living for 3 months prior to us starting TTC. I have also pretty much given up alcohol, caffeine and all foods banned in pregnancy. When I went on a long weekend away I forgot my CBFM and almost made us go back for it.

My poor DH was a little shocked as he thought this TTC business would just be sex without condoms! Don't think he has any idea though how all consuming TTC is for me. Really glad to have found this thread!

CaveMum · 15/02/2012 07:24

Morning all! Welcome to the newbies! As I always say, I hope your stay with us is a short one, in the nicest possible way!

This thread seems to go in fits and starts, sometimes we get dozens of posts in one day and other times we go days without anyone posting.

Hope everyone is well. No news in Cave-World, due to test at the weekend if AF hasn't shown up. Trying not to get my hopes up, but almost 2 years of ttc and 3 cycles of Clomid are starting to get to me Sad

pippilongsmurfing · 15/02/2012 09:52

Was trying for 4 years before Clomi, and managed 3 x BFP's but had mc's with all, have now been put on Metformin and told to take it (if I do get a BFP), until end of 1st trimester, to bring mc risk down.

I have put on a lot of weight due to another health problem, and that has led to PCOS, which means I haven't been ovulating, hence the Clomid.

If no AF by Friday, I am defo going to test!

cavemum it does get you down doesn't it, it's just so disappointing thinking this is the one, then u get a BFN. Sad

JosieSmith1 · 15/02/2012 10:41

Amazeballs I can understand your frustration at SiL being pg, but it might work out for the best, you never know what?s around the corner

Cave horsey is fine thanks Smile had a few weeks off with a bad back and arthritis, and hasn?t been ridden much over winter (makes for interesting rides recently Grin) but otherwise she?s hunky dory Smile I?m not due to test anytime soon (starting IVF on Sunday) but hopefully I can be in the next flurry of BFPs (can I, can I, please please please...)

Congrats Beeble! And what a fab way to tell your DH Grin

Congrats Pearl!

Sorry to hear that MrsMellow. I can understand why your dr has said that, but I also understand the frustration it can cause. I was worried when we first went to the clinic that they would tell us to keep trying, I didn?t know how I would have coped had they said that. I didn?t see the point either. Fingers crossed it does happen naturally and it?s worth the wait

Hello to our newbies!

Quite a bit of news from me recently. Starting IVF this Sunday, got my appt with the nurse to learn how to use the needles tomorrow (terrified!!) and totally in the dark as to what to expect really. Taking it each day at a time now. I feel really sick thinking about it all. But I?m also letting myself think (just a little bit) about how wonderful it would be if it was successful, because I think it?s important not to forget what it?s all for.

Someone just tried to tell me how wonderful she feels because she?s going off on maternity leave [not impressed face]

Hope you are all ok lovely ladies!

CaveMum · 15/02/2012 10:45

Josie hope your appointment goes well. A friend of a friend had IVF last year and said that yes the appointments, injections, etc are a pain in the ass, but it's all worth it when you get your baby. She was lucky enough to take on the first cycle and is now mum to twins - 1 of each flavour!

maamalady · 15/02/2012 11:57

Hello to the newbies!

Josie, hope your appointment goes well. I had no idea you had to use needles yourself?!

Cave, I have my fingers crossed super-hard for you

No news here, but it's day 28 and my temp is still high - I have my fingers crossed, but keeping the hopes low. The sneaking hope that the HSG has helped still creeps up on me every now and again, though...

JosieSmith1 · 15/02/2012 13:22

Fingers crossed Evil! And yes we have to do the injections daily for the first three weeks, then continue those injections and do another one daily for about a week after that, then the op and fertilisation bits. I've asked DH to do the injections though as I have a phobia of needles, and he always says he wishes he could do more for me, so this way he can get a bit more involved and we can take the time to chat about how we feel about it all. I hope it'll turn into a good time for us to reconnect and get some of the stress out

JosieSmith1 · 15/02/2012 13:26

P.S. thanks Crow, as terrified as I am, I'm feeling a lot more positive and I hope it'll be worth it. Even if it fails we'll know we tried. I would love to have twins and one of each. That would complete my family I reckon. The dr said if we have one really good embie they'll only put one back, but they might put two back if we have a few decent ones. Won't make the decision until they're fertilised and growing (we have a say as well though obviously)

pippilongsmurfing · 15/02/2012 14:08

josie hope the appt. goes well, and good afternoon to everyone else.

Still no sign of AF, but still not enough courage to test. Have to go to chemist on Friday anyway, so I'm gonna do it then, I've got literally everything crossed Blush

mrsmellow · 15/02/2012 15:05

Wow josie - very exciting times, I hope it all goes well. It is really quite an involved process, I had no idea, but I'm sure worth it. I read the NICE guidelines on fertility yesterday publications.nice.org.uk/fertility-cg11/guidance#initial-advice-to-people-concerned-about-delays-in-conception
I found this quite useful, just to know what what the recommendations are. DH and I have decided to 'try' for another cycle and a half (CD16 today) and then initiate investigations/clomid...

pippi Gosh, I really hope you get your BFP and it sticks, such a long time to be trying to have a baby, it really is your turn now!
And cave you too... lets have a weekend of bfp's for the thread..

Picklestar · 15/02/2012 19:27

Hi to all the newbies, good luck!

Josie your DH sounds really lovely and supportive, got everything crossed for you, hope it goes well! Twins would be lovely :).

Got my fingers crossed for you too pippi!

same drchrissy i thought I'd fall the first month. Ive gone a but OTT with it and done loads of reading and planning!

No news here just continuing to do ovulation sticks, really hoping they say I ovulate soon!

Nongoddess · 15/02/2012 20:24

Josie it sounds so positive! Really good luck to you!

And lovely to know the happy news for beeble and Pearl. Looking forward to hearing more bfp news, alas not here, because just got AF... O dear. Now laying into Wine and comfort-reading Polly Williams, while supposed to be writing work project. Always next month!

Keep going with the sticks pickle sure there will be happy news for you soon.

Nongoddess · 15/02/2012 20:28

Oh, and fingers totally crossed for you pippi sounds really hopeful Smile Drchrissy I'm envying your military style operation. Can't kick my coffee habit though I'm really trying hard...

MCT76 · 16/02/2012 09:35

Hi everyone,

I hope it's ok to join you on this rocky road...I've been lurking for a while and reading about your stories and I have to say that I admire everyone's strength and willingness to support one another during some very tough times. It's nice to hear some positive outcomes to keep going and focusing on the final destination but as of today, I am throwing a small pity party for myself as I found out this morning that my first go at IUI has failed...I was due to take the pg test first thing but was woken up in the middle of the night by a particularly nasty visit from AF before schedule and with a lot of pain...joy!

We've been trying for 2 years and fought to be referred to the fertility clinic a year ago as soon as I turned 35...I'm 36 next week and really not looking forward to it this time as it is another stark reminder of how time is ticking by. I'm hoping that some well-earned Wine and a few more tears will help release some of the tension. I'm off to the hospital tomorrow to start the process all over again...

Good luck to all and I'll pop round later...

LadyBourne · 16/02/2012 10:39

Morning ladies,

Am so pleased to have found this thread.....

Started TTC this month and am keeping quiet about it so look forward to being able to share things on here.

Am completely new to even thinking about TTC (was told before Christmas that I have endometriosis, so that combined with turning 30 recently has prompted me to get on with it when I thought I still had a few years!) so am unfamiliar with all the acronyms and lingo - I'll try to get up to speed asap!

p.s. I am soooo pleased to hear that some of you are madly looking up baby products online, glad I'm not the only one. Grin

Picklestar · 16/02/2012 14:00

Welcome MCT76 and Lady and good luck hope you fall preggers soon!

MCT76 sorry to hear about the AF arriving! will you do more IUI? x

Lady I'm also quite new to TTC in to my 2nd month now. Am trying ovulation sticks to find out when I'm ovulating. I'm definitely in the 'madly looking up baby products online' brigade! :o!

PearlFisher · 16/02/2012 22:18

Hey all, still lurking on this thread as I don't dare join an antenatal thread yet [silly]. Just wanted to say thanks everyone for the congratulations and to wave to the newbies :)

Mrsmellow sorry to hear about your scan results. Hope there is someone on here who can advise and fingers crossed for you getting a BFP while you are waiting.

Josie hope your appointment was ok today and good luck for Sunday!

Lots of luck to cave and evil and everyone else waiting to POAS, and Wine for everyone waiting for appointments or for the witch to depart!

CaveMum · 16/02/2012 22:23

Pearl, when you feel brave enough do go and say hi on the First Time Frolickers ante-natal thread. They're a lovely bunch and will be more than happy to offer advice.

Well, still no sign of AF. I'll test over the weekend if there is no sign in the next 24-48 hours. Part of me doesn't want to test as i know I'll be so disappointed if it is negative Sad
