Hello all
I received what i think is some very odd advice and i would like to pick your brains. Had a termination in Sept as baby had an abnormality which was incompatible with life :( .... attempted to get preg the cycle after having one period and found myself pregnant a few weeks back. Appear to have MC at 6 weeks ... the hospital however seem to think I was never pregnant as HCG levels were very low when I went in [5 from my blood] .. and they think it could be left over from the preg earlier in the year [was 14.5weeks when had the termination in Sept] .. i just think I must have lost the baby almost immediately after testing [4 days after period was due ]. I don't really know why i have been told to wait 3 whole cycles before trying again ... and I dont want to as I am not getting any younger!!! have any of you had similar advice, if so why and have any of you ignored it and had happy news ... thanks so much ...C

Hi, and very sorry for your losses, it sounds like you have been through a very tough time this year.

3 months used to be the traditional advice, and it does give you time to heal more emotionally and be better prepared to go through the stress of a new pregnancy. However, it was all over the papers in August last year that this advice is now considered outdated, and it is fine to crack on with it sooner, except in certain cases (molar pregnancy, ectopic treated with drugs etc).

I have had two miscarriages. After each time i was told it was fine to ttc again after having a period. Even waiting for the period isn't strictly necessary and I tried straight away both times.

I would check that there is not some valid medical reason why you should wait, but otherwise, the general advice is wait for your period and then you are good to go again if you feel ready.

Good luck, I hope you have a successful pregnancy really soon.

Hi so sorry for your loss. As katandkit says, if no reason given why then they are giving outdated info. The reason for having 1 period is for dating really. When you ad DH are ready then it is right. Evidence shows if you can be lucky enough to get pregnant within 6 months of a mc you are more liely to go to term. Good luck and try to enjoy the holiday period being active

Hello there
Sorry to hear about your rubbish experience last year, and hope this year is going better already..
Rather late advice, but just thought I'd pass on my experience. I too had an early (6 week) miscarriage, didn't wait before trying again, and was lucky enough to conceive first time. He's nearly two now... So while it may be advisable to give yourself some mental space, it certainly wasn't necessary (for me) physically.
Good luck!

One thing you can do (to avoid the "is this a new pg or leftover hcg") is to wait till you have had a negative pg test result before trying again.

I've been to my GP this morning following a miscarriage last week and he said seeing as the bleeding has more or less stopped I can get back to trying straight away if that's what I want. He also said I could wait a period or two if I wanted.

I think waiting a cycle helps to know when you do conceive, i.e when the 1st day of your last period was, so you'll know how far along you are but it's no real biggy.

I think I'd also agree with waiting until you get -ve PG test so you won't get a false positive.
