A normal luteal phase (the time between ovulation and your period) would be anything from 10 to 16 days, so that would mean you ovulate sometime between days 12 and 18 of your cycle. After you ovulate sperm has about 24 hrs to meet egg and then the chance is gone, so if you ovulated around day 15,day 16 for conception happening would be about right, but you need to be having swi up to and including this point if you are ttc.

How your dr can claim to be so precise though I have no idea....

euro is right, your doctor has no way of knowing on what day you personally ovulate each month.

I wouldn't get hung up in asking the doctor about your luteal phase and all that stuff. Try just having sex three times a week, and hopefully that will work for you within six months or so. If you can't do that for whatever reason, your best bet is something like the clearblue fertility monitor.
