2WW and Christmas Drinks

My 2WW will start around the 18th December and coincide with the booziest time of my year. I usually drink about 6 units of alcohol a week but will drink about 6 a day for most of the Christmas period. I've been TTC since August and am desperate to get updiffed. I know I should abstain or just have a half-glass for appearances but Christmas will be long without booze Xmas Blush

Just wondering what you lot are doing. Are you moderating your drinking just in case?

whats WW? I will be starting ttc on the 16th good luck on whatever ww means haha

I'm worried about this too marking my place,

FWIW in the event of pregancy your bloodstream isnt shared for the first 6 weeks. So dont feel too worried in that aspect.

2ww is the two week wait between ovulation and menstruation positive pregnancy test.

I didn't Xmas Blush. After 2 yrs ttc I thought "oh sod it, I won't fall pregnant so I might as well get shitfaced have a drink, it's Christmas

My LMP was 31/11 and I got my BFP 28/12. My birthday is also in December, as was my DBIL's 30th birthday, which was two piss ups, plus drinking on christmas day AND boxing day. I was due on the 27/12, but sometimes I went a day over.

I beat myself up over it, however you should bear in mind for the first few weeks the baby lives off the yolk sac and not your blood supply.

Fingers crossed for your BFP

Thanks mydog. Correct answer i.e. the one I wanted to hear .

No worries. My DD is fine after a month of drinking a few drinks.

Have you been TTC for long?

If you have make sure you pester your GP. I told him a few porkies about how long we had been TTC and it still took over a year from first seeing the GP about it until BFP.

If you want to talk at anytime, PM me. It's hard in RL to talk to friends, esp when they don't understand what it's like

DeeLite · 11/12/2011 12:18

Thanks mydog.

I've been TTC since August which may not seem that long but I had established when I ovulated before then so we've had perfectly timed SWI so I've been convinced I'd get my BFP each month and devastated when we haven't. I'm going to give it until March and then really start worrying and pestering my GP.

What age is your DC now? Are you TTC again?

Well my 2wks will include my birthday, 3 nights out, and possibly Xmas eve, Xmas day & boxing day so am going to have to be of the 'sod it' mindset this month... Can't see the odd cheeky cig not making an appearance at some point too, I have zero will power with fags when I'm drinking Hmm

brettgirl2 · 11/12/2011 14:29

The only way to stay sane during ttc is to have a sod it mentality I think. I realised I was preg with this one when I went out for lunch had a couple of little glasses and felt queasy afterwards. During the 2ww the baby isnt even attached to you. I reckon the reason that drinking makes you less likely to get preg is that you have a nice big glass then fall asleep in front of the telly. Therefore you dont have sex!

I am debating exactly the same thing atm!
I have 3 work drinking parties this week, including one mahoosive piss up whe we all finish work on Friday.

Then have a few meet-ups planned (usually ends up in the pub).

Then our traditional Christmas eve friends meal out and back to someone's house for champagne.

Then Christmas day.

Then testing on Boxing day!

Am swinging between 'not feeling so well/driving/blah' - all which will be extremely obvious (let's say I'm not usually, ahem, shy of the drinks) OR saying fuck it! And just drinking way less than former Chrstmas times.

Hmmm. Bad guilty feelings. Haven't drank in weeks (on Clomid). Something very wrong about fertility drug taking and then getting shit-faced at Christmas. Confused

On the other hand - been a hell of a year, another Christmas rolls round without a BFP so DH and I could really do with just enjoying ourselves.

Will mull over...

Well ds was conceived the month that I thought 'sod it' after being told by GP it was unlikely I would conceive until I had cyst removed etc.... I continued to drink (many many parties) lots throughout the month and even when my period didn't turn up I thought I couldn't bbe pregnant so didn't test, but continued to drink. I got my BFP the day after boxing day! The best christmas present I've ever had! I've been ttc #2 since sep, it feels like forever though I know it's not, I'm so chilled about ttc this month, with all the christmas-type distractions, I've drank throughout the 2ww this time (though not to a crazy excess!). So.... my advice is, enjoy your christmas, ttc is more bearable when you're enjoying life!

Hi DeeLite,

I had the exact same worries and started a thread here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/conception/1355782-Sorry-if-done-before-drinking-Xmas-parties-2ww-etc-what-to-do

I think you are safe until about 4 weeks when the placenta is formed and whatever goes into your body is shared with the baby.

HKK

DeeLite · 12/12/2011 21:57

Thanks HereKittyKitty. Not sharing the blood supply. I like that: another bit of clever planning on Mother Nature's part. I also liked what Nellie said about causing more damage by stressing about not drinking than you do by drinking moderately. I'm willing to drink to that theory Grin.

dee, I've been putting my theory to the teston a monday evening, 3 large glasses of bubbles! Shock

mind you, af only just disappeared so no harm likely anyway. And i had a chest infection which nasty doc said would stop me conceiving this month, so I might as well enjoy myself this xmas period.
