hi difficulttimes, I'm trying to lose weight just now as well, as you say it's hard with lovely food around and the cold weather, brr! Starting to do the couch-to-5k running thing - I am definitely nto a runner and I am really unfit but it seems good so far. Have a wee google for NHS couch to 5k - there's podcasts to download which talk you through it all. I also just started using my WiiFit again - hadn't used it for whisper 301 days Blush and have put on 1st 2lbs in that time :( so trying to shift that. Also Just Dance on the Wii but that's more so I can do something along with LO! Also trying to walk more and run about with DS and just generally GET MOVING!!!

Good luck xxx

difficulttimes · 03/12/2011 22:19

Thanks ill have a gander,

I've but on not far off a stone :( hopefully will shift it.
was whinging to my dm last night she said 'well someone your size doesn't make much difference' :O
when I asked if she could tell, and then asked if I was going swimming Hmm yeah im really gonna go after that.
I said 'maybe if I loose some weight' and then incredibly said
'why dont you just go for it, ?
erm, because people like you will be gaking and judging.

sorry rant over she says some nasty things sometimes.

thanks for reply.

Yup, gradually losing whilst ttc. If you have pcos they do encourage you to lose weight because it helps with the symptoms. My bmi is around 30, I did say when they started my fertility investigations I was losing weight and that's as far as it went.
There's lots of anecdotal evidence that suggests when people lose weight they get a bfp but I'm not sure why exactly. Good luck ttc!

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 03/12/2011 22:24

What's your bmi difficult?

penguinpenguin · 03/12/2011 22:44

difficult my mum is the same. Very critical of me. I also don't go swimming for the exact same reason! I only go out running at night (on well-lit roads, but with a hood up so you can't see my awful red sweaty face :( I really have a lot of stupid issues with this but heyho!).

havealittlefaith I wonder why it is that you're more likely to get PG if you're fitter? I mean you could say it's just because you're generally healthier but I wonder what the actual biology behind it is? Will need to have a google!

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 03/12/2011 22:51

I dunno. I wonder if some of it is increased body confidence and sex drive?! My friend is a dietitian and I'm.sure she said it's only really bmis of 30-45 that have fertility problems due to weight. Over 45 they tend to be very fertile but of course have higher risk of gestational diabetes

difficulttimes · 04/12/2011 09:08

Not sure really but I think its higher than thirty.

tbh I got pg within a month of sickness on the pill, so its not the same for all bigger women and same goes for scans my scans were really clear.

but of course doesnt mean same will happen this time.

Just to give you hope I am overweight Blush but got a bfp after losing 10lb. I am doing slimming world and have found it quite easy, also started using the wii fit :)

good luck

difficulttimes · 04/12/2011 13:01

Aw congrats

Im pretty disapointed with myself lost 19lbs with ww this year and put alot of it back on :(

I am in the same boat. Lost a stone and put it back on and more i expect. Too scared to get on the scales at the moment! Feel like I should start dieting but feels so pointless when it's only 3 weeks to Christmas! Really want that BFP though so should get motivated but find it so hard! Xmas Biscuit

penguinpenguin · 05/12/2011 16:41

It's awful that I've put on so much weight - lost it all after having my first LO so have no excuse, it's just crept on over the years. I was 11st when I was 9 months pregnant, now I'm nearly 12st - feel really awful admitting that! I also really worry that being pregnant I will once again just decide I have free reign to eat as much as I want - I found out I was PG v late on with DS, and I managed to put on 2&1/2st in 3 months Blush

Just started listening to a (free) weightloss hypnotherapy app on my iPhone last night - sooo cheesy but it's so relaxing and so far seems OK actually - have not wanted to touch chocolate to day despite being offered some! Not like me at all Xmas Grin xx

PopcornMouse · 05/12/2011 16:58

penguin & difficult please don't feel ashamed to go out running! You should feel empowered!
My DH is very svelte and athletic (I am neither Blush ) and rather than "judging" anyone he sees running, he always says he feels really pleased for them and mentally wishes them luck, as it is difficult to get the confidence to do. So please don't think that everyone is looking at you and tutting only the twunts :o

Have you thought about joining a weightloss programme? My Dsis lost mega-shed-loads on Slimming World and I am doing WeightWatchers. It makes it much easier imho :)

You can always start after Christmas, though Christmas is only a few days really isn't it? It doesn't have to be a diet disaster :)

difficulttimes · 05/12/2011 17:18

If I was 12st I'd only be a stone overweight penguin I'd be quite happy tbh, im worse than that :(

eurgh I'm gonna stick some horrible fat pics of me on the fridge lol.

Im over weight and TTC to concieve too.
MY BMI is 36 :(

Im not actually that big though. Im stocky but I dont have a gunt, Im quite muscly and I have a pretty flat tummy (fat arse though)

Im a size 18. I need to lose 6 stones in order to take me into the "healthy BMI range"

To put this into perspective a few years ago I lost a lot of weight. My BMI was still obese. Yet I was a size 12 and wouldn't of got any smaller unless i physically removed bones. Could see all my ribs, hips jutted out and face looked ill.

I think its stopping me from TTC and its making me miserable. Currently doing slimming world but Im struggling.

penguinpenguin · 05/12/2011 17:51

I am only 5'1 though!!! According to WiiFit my BMI is just over 30 :( really upset and pee'd off with myself!

I really, really dislike WW - not sure why, it just never seems to work for me and then I get really frustrated. Used to go with my sister - she'd lose loads in the first few weeks and I would put on weight despite dieting/exercising. Grr!!!

Chuckaluck · 05/12/2011 18:23

Weight loss clubs like ww and slimming works seem to bring out some evil demon in me! I sabotage myself and rebel against what I know is best for me! I have tried zumba once a week and running twice a week in the hope that would help get me motivated but when I did it I would just reward myself with food as I 'deserve a treat'! I have tried using ov sticks for first time this month and am on day 15 and no smiley face yet. Staring to think my size is a real problem - need to lose about 5 stone I think. It feels SO much that I get depressed abou it and eat more to feel better. I have some serious food issues!

LittleDragon · 06/12/2011 00:48

Hi I'm about 8 stone over my healthy weight. I'm planning to start slimming world again in the new year as DP and I have a 10 day holiday booked for Christmas and new year. I lost about a stone and a half this year and think I've probably put most of it back on.

We've been TTC for most of this year and I am having a blood test done on thursday to confirm whether or not I am PG as have been showing symptoms even though urine tests have come back negative. It's exactly the same as what happened with DS so here's to hoping.

MissMedusa · 06/12/2011 16:27

My unscientific opinion is that our bodies tend to know what's good for us, they try to tell us when we're doing them harm and they try to regulate the effects of what we do that does harm them. If you're already overweight and at increased risk for diabetes, heart disease etc. your body will actively try to prevent you from putting yourself at further risk. Getting pregnant and the associated weight gain and stress on the body is sure to put you further at risk and I believe your body will try to stop you from doing that.

Hi guys,

Just been lurking in the conception boards again to catch up with people and spotted this thread.

I had a BMI of around 39. I basically just did a couple of months on a bit of a healthy eating kick and lost 20lb. I had been TTC for well over a year. The next month after losing weight I got my BFP! Now 6 + 4.

I don't know if it was the jolt / shock of losing a decent amount of weight that got my system working again or if it was just luck. I think my body felt a bit more within my 'normal' range. Which is still a BMI of 37! (I'm a tall, stocky girl).

In short, I didn't want to rub it in. I just wanted you to know that it is possible. :) Good luck x
