Conception

When's the best time to get pregnant? Use our interactive ovulation calculator to work out when you're most fertile and most likely to conceive.

The rats are all going to be jolly well smacked, we are going to have lots of festive BFPs and possibly a mince pie (or three)

Welcome to all!

Ok I take it back Maybe is the real lush here not Imps GrinGrin

Imps I sort of imagine my egg to be translucent but also sort of golden in appearance and shimmery at the same time. Does anyone remember the Human Body programme? The egg on there was all furry/fluffy looking.

PopcornMouse · 30/11/2011 12:02

smegs it turned out my friend's DH was smacking his own rat, shall we say, every single day, even when regularly dtd Shock
But he has realised the errors of his ways, and my friend is now anticipating a BFP imminently :o

possiblemaybebaby · 30/11/2011 12:02

I'm with you on the egg description Imps I also imagine it bouncing down my tubes too

Biscuitsandtea · 30/11/2011 12:03

I did compete in my younger days Smegs - up until I went to university - then I've been a bit hit and miss since then. it is still my exercise of choice though if I were to do any. I keep planning to go while DS is at nursery but it hasn't actually happened yet. I tend to prefer a proper bit of cardio if I'm trying to lose weight (as I don't find swimming wears me out that much?) but certainly while I'm preggo I like a bit of swimming. Just need to actually get my arse to the pool!

And I don't think you are silly or broken Smegs. I would be asking some serious questions too about any unusual bleeding that wasn't the norm for me. Did you get a GP appt? The ov bleeding explanation sounds totally reasonable, but I would have been just the same as you. And I'm not silly..... Errrr.....

PopcornMouse · 30/11/2011 12:03

cupcakes I'm not a HP fan, but I do always sort of envisage a wee golden snitch fluttering down my tubes Blush

Biscuitsandtea · 30/11/2011 12:05

Cupcake - doing OK thanks. I guess it isn't really a biscuit crumb now - perhaps a mini chocolate digestive or something? Or a Mini cookie?
We're 23 weeks now (I can still hardly believe it!) so ticking them off. If DS is anything to go by (and I kind of hope he is) that only leaves me another 14 weeks to go!

PopcornMouse · 30/11/2011 12:06

23! Shock

He's a mini cheddar already

ScrambledSmegs · 30/11/2011 12:10

Ah, I see Popcorn. . I'm very glad your friend's DH has seen the error of his ways.

I suspect my friend may have had the same problem in the past, but this month her DH has read all the info possible and is probably more clued up than her! He did spend ages surfing the net trying and failing to find just one reputable site that endorsed SWI every day, twice a day though Grin.

possiblemaybebaby · 30/11/2011 12:11

Wowza Biscuits that is amazing! Where has the time gone? Smile

Biscuitsandtea · 30/11/2011 12:15

It's funny - I remember with DS the time from 20 weeks onwards went much quicker. and while at any one time it seems to be dragging when I look back it doesn't seem that long since I was at 20 weeks so maybe it is going faster again?

Right - I need to marshall DS through his sandwich so I can take him to pre-school.

PopcornMouse · 30/11/2011 12:19

:o @ smegs husband. Yes DH is rather disappointed we're not going to be having a month-long every-day shagathon in December :o

TheLittleFriend · 30/11/2011 12:32

smegs I'm really sorry about the bleeding, but good that it's not stopped. It really could just be ovulation if it's not lasted. Brooking hard for you x

I'm with bean that acupuncture is definitely worth a go.

Stasi if you managed 20 laps in 30 mins you are far, far from a terrible swimmer! You would have a right laugh seeing me floundering around in the pool! It's actually dc2 I'm trying for, I am already very lucky to have a gorgeous dd. I agree though that it's hard to know when to test, especially as my body is definitely not acting the same way it did back then.

Pop, cupcakes and Imps in answer to your questions, today is CD28 (!!!!), but not sure how many dpo. Had spotting from CD13 - 18 so maybe between 10-15 dpo? I know that if it was 10dpo then I would be testing too early, but if that is the case, there is no chance I could be preggo anyway as we didn't dtd at that point in my cycle as we were both ill. (does that make sense?)

I've postponed my acupuncture from tomorrow til next week, as she wants to see me at the start of cycles now. Obviously if af doesn't arrive by then I will test again, but I think I would prefer it just to turn it now so I can get on with swi for next month.

PopcornMouse · 30/11/2011 13:31

AF is here :(
Just spotting atm but definitely AF, it's a nice bright red. Sigh.

Stasi · 30/11/2011 13:33

Biscuits - thanks for the swimming advice, I'll give it a try. I used to only be able to swim underwater when younger, so could (and still can) hold my breath. It's the going under I can't do. It's like as I go down the water goes up. I've tried those nose clips in the past, but they're uncomfortable and don't really work for me. Maybe I'll just buy some scuba goggles :)

Little - I maybe overstated my swimming. I did 20 lengths, not laps. Have realised laps could be considered to be both there and back. The problem with the people overtaking me were that they were really quite elderly ladies. It was a surreal morning all in all. Like I stepped into this little sub-community of the elderly. They were all greeting each other by first name, and saying "see you tomorrow" on the way out. Personally I'm going to leave it a couple of days to let the ache wear off!

Meetings weren't too bad, but we've got an issue I need to sort out asap, so not much time to chat.

Oh, as a random thing to say. When my sister and I were both talking about ttc at the same time, she 'claimed' the name "bean" for her potential baby. I felt I couldn't reuse the same term to talk about mine, so after much thinking decided on "twinkle". Children are the "twinkle in your eye" long before, and after they're born.

PopcornMouse · 30/11/2011 13:40

SIL insisted on something particularly twee; DH and I have both agreed that if when I get pg, we're going to use "alien chest-burster" :o

PopcornMouse · 30/11/2011 13:41

Sorry, 1st half of my sentence got cut off there Hmm (definitely one of those days). It was supposed to start, I like it stasi, something a bit different! :o

Biscuitsandtea · 30/11/2011 13:43

If you breathe out as you're going under Stasi then the air going out stops the water going in Smile Same principle for doing tumble turns.

Imps7 · 30/11/2011 13:50

I think we're just going to go for plain, straightforward "Junior", but Popcorn I'm liking your style Grin

Imps7 · 30/11/2011 13:51

Oh, Little, what CD did you last SWI on?

PopcornMouse · 30/11/2011 13:54

Sorry stasi I've just realised that post sounded really rude Shock Blush That wasn't my intention Blush

beangrower · 30/11/2011 13:57

Ah shittydeath Pop - wish we could beat her to pulp for you and replace her squishy mess with a lovely tidy BFP. I hope you're not too hacked off, though totally understand if you are. I felt like crap this weekend but you lot sorted me out. So you are one month closer to your BFP Pop and we are brooking.

Twinkle beats Bean. Everyone uses bean. Look at me for example though I was trying to pun on the fact that we have an allotment and funnily enough this is the name I gave myself when I joined MN a year ago before I became a TTC timebomb and was struggling with breastfeeding instead. Beangrowers seems more than a tad ironic - in my more bitter moments. (Yes - I do seem to allow myself to make everything a crisis! No wonder I didn't get that UN job.)

CD28 Little - very exciting! BRRRRROOOOK

Anyone bothered with watching Pan Am? Not sure how I dare confess to it actually.... We did get an HBO series off LoveFilm called 'Bored to Death' - whimsical ('cooo-ky' as the American would say) but actually quite funny. Ted Danson makes you stare!

PopcornMouse · 30/11/2011 14:01

I have taped it, Bean, but not watched it yet. I am getting in to sewing clothes and like to watch that sort of thing for the pencil skirts Blush

Ladies, I came off the pill in Feb last year, and my first few cycles were different lengths, but that was to be expected - the first AF took 6 weeks to arrive, then 5 weeks, then 4 1/2 weeks (which takes us to June-ish when I joined FF), then they were 29 in June, 31 in August & September, and this one - which started in October and covered all of November - was a whopping 39 days long.

Are they irregular enough that I should be worrying about stuff like pcos and all that jazz?

PopcornMouse · 30/11/2011 14:03
whimsicalname · 30/11/2011 14:14

Oh popcorn that is bad news. I was looking forward to a clandestine POAS session on Friday morning. Anyone else available then?

Just been to the strike demo in town, very exciting, but now think I'm coming down with some horrible lurgy.

Sorry to hear about other people's troubles. Will try to catch up properly later as need to work now (not technically on strike as don't technically have job, but somehow still need to work.)

Imps7 · 30/11/2011 14:22

Popcorn, I know you may well want to punch me for this "look on the bright side" post - please tell me to eff orff if you want to, but at least this means that you've only been TTC for 7 months, rather than 10. I know it makes things drag on even longer (my cycles are around 32-33 days!) but the average time to conceive is between 6-9 months and you're still smack bang in the middle of that.

Still really sorry that you've got AF rather than a BFP though.
