Conception

When's the best time to get pregnant? Use our interactive ovulation calculator to work out when you're most fertile and most likely to conceive.

The rats are all going to be jolly well smacked, we are going to have lots of festive BFPs and possibly a mince pie (or three)

Welcome to all!

Grab a glittery tinsel wrapped ramekin, grab some mulled wine and join our very lucky thread.

Haaa I remember saying to myself when we first agreed to start TTC in January "I may not have a baybee by Christmas but at least I'll definitely be pregnant by then". Aaaah, innocence! On the plus side though, every month I'm a month closer to my baybee. Plus the year has FLOWN by - I honestly don't know how I would have had the time for a baybee/pregnancy this year!

Onwards and upwards girls - bring on the cute snuffly September sproglets.

Imps7 · 09/12/2011 11:50

Oh, re: wine Maybe - it's a tricky one isn't it? Miserableness does not sit well with the relaxanditwillhappen school of thought. If you only have a couple of glasses a week then I can't see that would affect your fertility obviously being the highly qualified medic that I am. I'm going to cut down to about 10 units a week - cutting it out completely will make me sad.

Bloody well wish OH would cut down - maybe if we don't have a BFP after 12 cycles (which will be in June thanks to the false start we had between Jan and July (grrrrr)) he will.

PopcornMouse · 09/12/2011 12:00

Imps I said I was having two bottles a week to the GP (20 units a week, well in line with recommended guidelines for non-pg women) and she still said it was too much. Same for DH, and it's below the threashold for men. She still said it's bad for swimmers.

But then, if she thinks I ovulate on CD14 come hell or high water, she's not really that clued up, I suppose... Hmm

possiblemaybebaby · 09/12/2011 12:00

Hmm, I know what you mean Imps I may limit myself to only having a glass on a Friday or Saturday, or if we go out for dinner. Neither of us drink a lot, so it's not a huge issue, and we are both fit and healthy. You know when you just feel like you are grasping at straws Xmas Grin

And the year really has flown by, Can't believe we are nearly at 2012!

It's tough isn't it Beedle whilst we have been trying since Feb, we didn't really 'try' properly. So DH has promised to play ball in the new year. My GP also said she would send him for a SA too if things weren't better in a few months, which is always a good thing.

But we will all be preggo by then, so it won't matter Xmas Grin I am currently shopping for cookery books. They really are my vice. Along with pyjamas. And wine. And baking.....

farfallarocks · 09/12/2011 12:21

Oh beedle here is hoping for a lovely xmas BFP for you!

On the wine front, my accupuncture lady is adamant that drinkingin moderation is good for TTC purposes for the relaxation effect!! I am sticking with that line.
I think TTC is hard enough without denying yourself the odd pleasure and for me a nice coffee in the morning and a glass of wine in the evenings are what I most look forward to

generic thanks for coming back and posting your commisserations, we will get there, ALL OF US in 2012 I just know it.

I think we need a little rousing chorus of

What do we want? Positive pee sticks!
When do we want them? NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ScrambledSmegs · 09/12/2011 14:27

far your acupuncture lady sounds great! Anyone who recommends a little bit of booze is my kind of therapist Xmas Smile

beedle it will happen for all of us. You just have to belieeeeeeeve!

maybe you could get one of these. Sexy Xmas Wink

Imps you could do what one of my friends did and 'accidentally' buy loads of crates of low alcohol lager for her DH as it was on offer, and then refused to buy him anymore till it was gone as the garage was full!

Off to hospital for blood tests in a minute - I had no idea CD1 would be here so fast after my GP visit, but at least I'll get my answers more quickly now. DH has made an appointment to see his GP for the SA stuff on Monday, so it's all systems go at Le Chateau Du Smegs. Bless my DH for taking it all so seriously, he's brilliant Xmas Smile

PopcornMouse · 09/12/2011 14:27

far I agree - tbqh I think I'd have gone abso-friggin-lutely bonkers if I'd given it up for the full 10 months we've been ttc. But I think I'm at the point where I know we do drink too much, and I'm happy to give it a few months to see if it does the job iykwim.

On a practical note, DH is not happy about the SWI every other day thing. He's asking why it's better than every day, if he's..... err.... giving me the same amount but split between 2 days, iykwim Blush - and I didn't know what to say! Anyone know why it is they say every other day is preferably to every day? Or have I in fact conjoured that fact out of thin air as DH thinks? Confused

ScrambledSmegs · 09/12/2011 14:28

Well, what happened there then?! None of my smilies converted. How strange.

I have broked the Mums Net.

ScrambledSmegs · 09/12/2011 14:28

BeedleTheBard · 09/12/2011 14:39

possiblemaybebaby · 09/12/2011 14:46

Oh Smegs you mad me proper chuckle like! That jacket is soooooooo me!

Can't believe you broked mumsnet.

farfallarocks · 09/12/2011 14:47

Good luck with the docs smeg it feels quite empowering to be doing something pro-active doesn't it?

pop I think the every other day thing is to let them build up a bit?

I am not sure about the science behind it but I think they only advise that if there is a problem with the swimmer otherwise every day is fine? But every other day is also fine and covers the bases if you miss a day or summat?

Is anyone else due to test or with AF imminent soon? We have a woeful result this month all round and we all need to Brook harder and wave some more pom poms about.

have I hope your loss adjuster turned up? I am so sorry to hear about your DH as well, I really hope its all resolved and sorted soon!

possiblemaybebaby · 09/12/2011 15:00

Well, I was thinking Far my AF still isn't here, so if she has indeed buggered off, irrespective of whether or not there is a BFP, can we still count this as some sort of victory??

I'm thinking we need something new for the new year. You know, to make sure she gets the message. Ideas on a postcard please....

farfallarocks · 09/12/2011 16:07

maybe that is fantastic news, yay, you are still in with a chance then!!!

Are you tempted to test again this weekend?

cakes82 · 09/12/2011 16:20

Do you think I can still have Christmas drinks when af is due roughly Christmas Day!? That is of course assuming that my body sticks to the vague timetable it runs to or of course the elusive BFP might appear?

Munkiii · 09/12/2011 16:35

So sorry about the BFNs today brookers.

We were referred after 12 months trying before I had DD. We had a lovely GP, in fact this is the same GP that ordered the day 21 bloods and SA for DH and I a few months ago, I basically tracked my cycles as soon as AF appeared after DD was born and when I saw the bizarre pattern I went to see her and said that I wasn't prepared to wait 16 months again and could I be referred.

Luckily we were, and despite the luck of getting pg recently (and bad luck of the mc) I will still go for the appointment at the hospital as the blood test results were a bit strange.

But mainly, once I am in the system I know that I will be able to have HGC levels and an early scan if when I get pg again. And after two previous mc that will be immensely reassuring.

I know we have been lucky to get HCPs who listen to us and take our concerns seriously.

I wish you all well with appointments and referrals.

Not much to report, 7 DPO ish here, AF due ish next weekend. We'll see.

Other than that lots of birthday celebrations for DD!

I do hope you all have a lovely weekend, am still brooking hard for Maybe and Far and imps am i right in saying the evil witch hasn't actually made a proper appearance? So sorry Smegs but next month..........

I'll top up the hot choc and leave some cake pops ere I go.
