Conception

When's the best time to get pregnant? Use our interactive ovulation calculator to work out when you're most fertile and most likely to conceive.

The rats are all going to be jolly well smacked, we are going to have lots of festive BFPs and possibly a mince pie (or three)

Welcome to all!

Grab a glittery tinsel wrapped ramekin, grab some mulled wine and join our very lucky thread.

Loooopy · 08/12/2011 16:06

far where are you in your cycle?

Imps7 · 08/12/2011 16:06

Far I really do think you should test - I'm not just saying that because I'm dying to hear about the next BFP, but because of the medical advice you were given that you'd need to start treatment early in your next pregnancy. It may well be a BFN, but it could be a BFP and if it is it's really important that you know asap so the little bean has a greater chance of getting stuck in and staying there .

farfallarocks · 08/12/2011 16:16

imps are the voice of reason, I know you are. will test tonight but you have too ok?

maybe shall we all do it together and mental away?

Synchoronised peeing?

looopy I am day 24 and my cycles are usually 24-27 days depending on when I ovulate so I suppose it could be implantaion but I have been here before and don't want to get my hopes up especially with all this spotting argh argh

Oh and smegs excellent news about the fast track and the HSG, that has also just worked for my friend after 18 months!!

bartlett also just to say if you are lurking, I am thinking of you often.

Imps7 · 08/12/2011 16:20

I may have sneakily PIACR this morning...no exciting news to report...

possiblemaybebaby · 08/12/2011 16:22
Imps7 · 08/12/2011 16:28

Don't allow your hopes to be got up Far - assume it's a BFN. I know it's the opposite of what we stand for on this thread but I think it's an appropriate moment to assume that it won't be a BFP, that AF is on her mo-fo'ing way and that next month will be your month. Then it won't come as any surprise if it is a BFN.

(Still bloody well hope it isn't though).

PopcornMouse · 08/12/2011 16:29

Soooooooooo she said they only refer people after 2 years, but to come back in 6 months (will have been 1.5yrs) and they will do a HSG and refer me. My thyroid levels are fine, but we drink too much Blush (which we sort of knew anyway but at least now I have a GP's agreement and can hassle DH more effectively :o ) and not to worry about the rubella as I'll get tested if/when I get pg Hmm (I was a bit wtf? about that bit, but stupidly said nothing - d'oh). And my wonky cycles are fine-ish; at least, not irregular enough to be of concern.

Good luck far :)

PopcornMouse · 08/12/2011 16:31

Tbh I am not as horrendously disappointed by the uneventfulness of the appointment as I thought I'd be. I just Have A Feeling that DH sharing the wealth so to speak will do the trick Blush and if not, I'll go back in 6 months and say "but Dr X saaaaaid - now refer me dammit!!" :o

Imps7 · 08/12/2011 16:31

2 years Xmas Confused??

How are you feeling Pop?

PopcornMouse · 08/12/2011 16:32

xpost! :)

farfallarocks · 08/12/2011 16:41

2 years?? I thought nice guidelines were 1 year and 6 months if there are other concerns such as thyroid etc

Did they check your thyroid levels again?
There are some other basic blood tests they can before they do HSGs which cost the NHS about 50p to do e.g. day 3 and day21. I have a list somewhere!

Shall I post it or are feeling at peace with it all?

imps and maybe you are quite right, I shall prepare myself for a BFn and imps you are very sly indeed, I am sorry if it was a bfn though

HaveYourselfAFaithyChristmas · 08/12/2011 16:47

I am a bit Xmas Shock at that...we went to the GP after one year, had basic bloods for me and SA referall for DH. Then I went back after charting for three months and GP agreed to refer me to the specialist, I was seen when we'd been ttc for 19 months....
Can you not strop a bit?!

Solars · 08/12/2011 16:48

Oh Pop that just seems a little bit odd about the rubella, are you allowed to have the vaccine if you're not immune and pregnant? My immunity was tested for when I mentioned it to the nurse that we will be considering to ttc in 6 months time and even when I had my initial blood tests recently they tested again [hconfused] hmmm and not sure about the 2years either Xmas Hmm

I know exactly how you feel Maybe & Far about seeing bfns, but i have every faith that you will get your BFPs :)

Imps obviously still too early, when are you actually not due?

Imps7 · 08/12/2011 16:53

AF is not due at any point Solars! My LP ranges from 12-14 days (which I think may be due to FF getting the wrong date for ovulation in some cycles) and today I am on 13DPO. I'll be officially late if AF hasn't arrived by close of play on Saturday.

I'm a bit of a weirdo when it comes to testing - BFNs don't bother me all that much for some reason Xmas Confused tries to banish the thought that maybe she is in fact a cold-hearted cow with no maternal instincts which is why BFNs don't bother her

possiblemaybebaby · 08/12/2011 16:53

Oh Impa I didn't see your message. Sorry about the bfn.

Pop my gp told me to come back after a year! I think it shows the differences across gps. Still, at least you know you have a definite time scale. But you be so bloody diffed by then that it won't matter Xmas Grin

I'm on my way home. Look at mning on the move Xmas Grin

When are you going to test Far

PopcornMouse · 08/12/2011 17:01

Thanks all. Yes I was a bit Hmm when she said 2 years, but I am at peace with another 6 months (especially as I could push it and go after 4 :o )

Yes, that was my thought about the rubella - it'd be too late if I was pg? I was hoping for a day 21, but I have charted and seem to be ovulating so I'm not too put out. I may go back in a few weeks re the rubella once I've digested it all... I just feel a bit exhausted by ttc this month iykwim?? Hence the not charting.

Far I had a blood test in August which was fine, and I'm due one in a week with a final appointment with the endo on 21st. I'll ask the bloods nurse about the rubella, as often nurses seem to know more about these things than the GPs, and I'll raise ttc with the specialist although I expect he'll think it's unconnected.

(The real corker of the appt was when she said that ovulation occurs 14-16 days after the start of your period (she said this despite knowing my last cycle was 38 days long). I think I felt a bit "whatever you say, love" after that :o )

possiblemaybebaby · 08/12/2011 17:03

Look at me not mning successfully on the move. If I don't have baby brain, then I think I'm going have to check if there's a brain in there at all Xmas Grin

That's right Imps (or should I say Impa) she is not coming

Thanks Solars Xmas Smile

CupcakesAndCocktails · 08/12/2011 17:22

Runs in and grabs Farfalla's hand

I agree that you definitely have to test. Try to think of it as just confirming that your not pregnant iyswim & hopefully you won't be too disappointed.

I'm happy to do a group test, mine will most defiantly be a BFN as AF has only just left. Any excuse to PIACR GrinGrinGrin

Pop if your happy to leave it another 6 months then I think that's fine (might not be a bad idea due to your DH's extra curricular activities Wink). However if you don't want to, print off the NICE guidance and take it to your doctor as they should start investigations after a year. Not sure about the rubella though, sounds like she was a bit clueless tbh.

Smegs excellent work at the doctors, a HSG is just what the rat smackers ordered. It worked for Biscuits and Ninja

Maybe PIACR already!!! I can't stand the wait Smile

Biscuitsandtea · 08/12/2011 18:33

pop your GP sounds a bit Xmas Hmm about it all. I think as others have said if you're happy with 6 mths that's fine. We went at 12 mths and they referred me for day 3 and 21 tests and DH for an SA. Then when those results came back they referred us so we saw the fertility clinic in May this year which must have been 17 mths including the wait for the appt at the clinic. So a someone else said I thought the guidelines were 12 mths unless either of you are over 35 or there's some other concern?

Good news for solars though on your progress though - that's great stuff.

Good luck to those PIACR imminently. Agree as well far you have to test in case - we'll be here for you whatever xxx

BeedleTheBard · 08/12/2011 19:07

Imps sorry about the BFN but its not over yet

smegs great news about the HSG and successful doctor's appointment, sorry yours wasn't as good popcorn. Why can't we all have good doctors like smegs ???

Well I'm having an early night (no sniggering at the back I'm alone) I was at the dentists this morning to have a root canal redone. So I've got a sore jaw, plus a headache. Tooth doesn't hurt though :)

Looking forward to the PICRs tomorrow, I'll be around early for handholding if anyone needs it. Though not holding the ramekin Xmas Grin

Night night

cakes82 · 08/12/2011 19:29

We started the testing process at 10 or 11 months after I had a long cycle for the first time ever. Dr referred me at about same time and I saw specialist at 13months ttc. I've seen 3 different GPs in the last 4 months, plus 1 on other things and 3 said tests after 12 months. The other one said refer after 2 years except she hadn't registered I'd already been referred and then looked at my hormone levels and decided to consider PCOS as a potential.

Unless your happy waiting, try a different GP!

Biscuitsandtea · 08/12/2011 19:43

Sorry I meant Smegs not solars for the good appt Xmas Blush

In my defence I was monitoring DS eating a yogurt which I was holding at the same time as posting....

ScrambledSmegs · 08/12/2011 20:38

Thanks everyone. I'm feeling pretty positive now, despite the cramping and spotting I'm now suffering. Oh well. At least I made it further than CD19 this time!

Imps damn that defective batch of pee-sticks! I'm sure you'll get a working one soon Xmas Smile

Popcorn that's awful! I told my doc we'd been trying for a bit over 6 months, and she told me that I should have been trying for a year at 35 (2 under 35), but if we were prepared to 'tell a little white lie' then she would refer us to a fertility clinic now. I think it's really down to how sympathetic your doctor is, sadly.

HaveUrselfAFaithyChristmasBaby · 08/12/2011 21:49

Just realised my piar ramekins have all gone in a skip. Oh dear, I clearly need to go out and get some GU puddings Xmas Grin
imps the pee sticks are clearly stoopid.
maybe it really is Friday tomorrow are you going to put us out of our misery?!

possiblemaybebaby · 08/12/2011 22:54

You are correct Have it is indeed Friday tomorrow Xmas Grin If AF isn't here, I will PIACR, though I am almost 100% sure it will be a BFN.

Does anyone want to borrow Otis? He is doing my head in. If anyone saw the state of my arms and hands, I think there would be a few raised eyebrows Xmas Hmm

Poor you Beedle Touch wood, I have never had any problems with my teeth other than my wisdoms, it sounds so painful. Hope you are feeling better by the morning.

Oh Scrambled. I am glad you are feeling upbeat. I really hope your body starts playing ball soon Xmas Smile
