Can those of you who have had a top up rubella jab please tell me...

Is it a single vaccine for rubella or do you just get MMR?

I've been booked in for an MMR at my doctors as I am showing as non-immune to rubella (although I was vaccinated as a child) and the Assisted Conception Unit say it's a prerequisite for treatment so need to get it sorted.

Not sure I like the idea of having 3 vaccines when I only need one! Also not sure that the doctor's receptionist understood what I needed when I booked the appointment (she asked me if I wa travelling, erm, not, it's not that sort of jab...) so I've been waiting all day to speak to a nurse to confirm but no-one has called me back...

Also, did you get any side effects?

I'm a year in to TTC and now I'm going to have to take a month or two off. Pah, rubella sucks.

I discovered once I was already pregnant that I had very low immunity despite having the vaccine as a child so I was immunised within hours of giving birth and I think that was the MMR. I'm not 100% sure as it was three years ago but I'm pretty certain. I didn't get any side effects other that the indignity of having it in my bum although that was small fry after childbirth and stitches!

MMR isn't 3 vaccines; it's given as one.

VivaLeBeaver · 27/11/2011 19:04

It's mmr that you get.

Giselle: it is indeed one injection, but it contains three immunisations.

I believe it is now standard to use MMR (simpler procurement, safe even when only one element indicated).

It's getting harder to get single tetanus jabs too.

Thanks everyone. Had it yesterday. Much less painful than I remember it being in 1983!

Fingers crossed it takes when my blood's tested in 4 weeks or I have to have another top up and that would make us to have to stop TTC until Feb or possibly March which is a bit depressing.

Still, positive thinking...

Does anyone know if it's the same formula as in 1984/5ish? I was allergic to it back then, I'm a bit oo-er about getting it now?
