The test for ovulation is measuring progesterone, and progesterone is raised after ovulation and stays raised in pregnancy but falls again if not pregnant. So if they were only measuring the progesterone levels, it would only show if you ovulated, not if you were pregnant or not. They would have to do a blood test measuring hcg to say if you were pregnant or not.

No, they are different hormones - pregnancy tests levels of HcG. An ovulation test tests levels of progesterone (and I second what galwaygirl said about prog in pregnancy).

Oh thanks ladies. Sorry it may have been a Stupid question but all this is new to me. I called drs and they said I was producing progesterone! That's good then I guess ..! I was having the test as I get cysts on my ovaries and apparently that test can tell if it has returned although this is a new dr and Im not so sure- had an ultra sound last time which seems the most obvious option to me. So I guess I will have to wait a little longer - period due next week! Presuming it's too early to test? Confused

I may throw a spanner in the works here but I had elevate progesterone levels at my 21 day blood test (mine were 126 nmol) and the Dr hinted this may be a sign of early pregnancy. He had only ever seen a result this high once before and the lady was pregnant. So of course I rushed home and tested only to get BFN. Then AF arrived the very next day so please do not read too much into it.

I know this is an old thread. But for anybody reading looking for up to date info. I am 2 days late for my period. Boobs where slightly aching and slight cramping thought I was for sure about to come on. Went to my friends she gave me two ovulation tests to test on, both came back positive results. Both lines as dark as each other so went to boots got a first response pregnancy test and didn’t even have to wait a few seconds before that second line appeared and it came up super dark!! So yes ovulation tests can show pregnancy but isn’t the most reliable method. Always do a pregnancy test. I’ve been trying for two years since my miscarriage & d&c
