Anyone mad enough to measure their basal body temp and does it really work???
How soon after receiving a higher temp reading did you either have your period or do a preg test???
HELP!!!

Hi Pol,

I was doing my BBT from about August last year. I started on Day 1 of my cycle (ie when period appeared) and then when the temp went up (as this means you are ovulating according to my fertility book thing), grabbed DP at every oppourtunity for about a week. Sounds a bit hit and miss but I got a BFP in October! (Unfortunately I went on to m/c but this doesn't relate to the temping)

DP swears it was temping that helped us get the BFP as we had been trying for over a year without doing it so best of luck to you and I hope it works out.

Hope this helps

I measure mine. It?s not so bad, one alarm goes off I grope in the dark for the thermometer shove it in my mouth, switch it off, go back to sleep and read it later in the day. (LOL lazy cow that I am - I should leap out of bed as soon as I have done it - yeah right!)
I?ve never done a pregnancy test ? only just started trying and my temperature tend to stay high after ovulation but looking my charts it seems to go down a little on day 23/24 with my 24-26 day cycle

Are you able to see where your ovulation is?
How long have you be temping?
Have you looked at the website I keep posting? Which tells you lots about temping. Posted on the Jan 06 thread on 12th Dec

Hi there,
Thanks ladies... Just to let you know... i am on day 73, I think of my cycle... been to gp and she said could be a number of things, coming off pill (tho never had this prob before), having daughter a yr ago last sept or being fat! I am 18 st and 5'7" and look fat but not 18st fat... oh who am I kidding!
Last period was oct and before that July (when I ended my combined pill)
Temp has been up for 13 days and been reading an american fertility book("taking charge of your fertility"- if only it was that simple) and zita west's book too. Been temping since day 41.
Today did an ebay cheapie 'acon' preg test... could not wait to see result, as usually the single line came up... These few weeks I have worked so hard monitoring every change... and boy, some of those changes aren't to pleasant to monitor; so went off and gave D her breakie... came back 15 mins later and I had a very faint second line! Refered to instructions crying like a mad woman- just as postie arrived with a package too and noticed it said it may be a false positive and try in 48 hours...!!! GRRRRR this will be the longest 48 hours of my entire life...!
Called sis and she thinks i'm preg... parnter not wanting to get his hopes up and that makes me sad because I know he is just trying to be strong for me. blub
Jen, so sorry to hear about your loss... I cannot imagine how that must feel at all. I know I would be beside myself.
Thanks peachy, will have a look.

hi pol25, baby dust to you [sprinkle emoticon]

Pol25

How long have you been ttc for and what are your cycles like generally?. If your cycles are irregular in nature like this (this is defined as less than 21 days or more than 35 days) then there may be an underlying hormonal problem present. Also charting with very long cycles is inadviseable anyway as it become almost impossible to interpret with any degree of accuracy.

I think your GP has fobbed you off (the pill leaves your system very fast after a person stops taking it) and if it is determined you are not pg I would go back there and insist on answers. At the very least a blood test should be done to measure your hormone levels accurately. Particular attention should be paid by you to your LH and FSH levels. These should be the same, a discrepancy would possibly indicate hormonal problems.

I would not take notice of the acon test, you are better off using a first response test to see the result and you can do that today if you wish. If you only saw a faint second line 15 minutes later it may be that this line is an evaporation line.

I wish you well

Well, prior to my D being born and being preg was 15 and a half stone... Then fell preg and got fatter! Cycles then were very regular 33 days apart and you could almost pinpoint them to the time of day I would come on.
D was born in sept 2004 and I went onto the pill not long after that. Ended the pill in july as we thought we'd like another bubba and did not have a period for 95 days (roughly) Now on day 74 and been charting temp and looking at cervical mucus for a while.
Temp been up for 14 days and I do have that heavy feeling like i'm going to come on but still haven't, and I had this on day 33 of cycle too, but no joy.
Surely charting your temp is an acurrate way of monitoring your fertility, how can it not be. The rise in your temp is due to progestorone from the realse of an egg, and if teamed with clear egg white similar fluid this means you're fertile, or am I completely wrong??????
Preg test tomorrow and a decent predictor one, so fingers crossed!

Sorry only a quick post as I'm on my way out - I've just started charting using bbt, cervical fluid & cervical postiton. I've bought Taking Charge of your Fertility by Toni Weschler. I am in the middle of a cycle so have no clue whats going on but form what I've read it seems to make sense looking at all 3 (although cervical position is only opntional) as it gives you more certainlty about what is going on. This website has more details ovusoft

Hi Pol25,

Am delighted to see a second positive result for you!.

With regards to temp charting one problem with is that you can have a rise in temp in the second half of your cycle when an egg has not been shed. It is certainly not an infallible method of detecting ovulation.

pol25 · 08/01/2006 15:10

Did predictor today and only one dot came up, boo hoo! Checked with p too make sure I had not imagined second faint line coming up immediatley last night he agreed and said it had.
Looked at predictor instructions and said would not tell till first day of missed period and even tho the ebay ones were cheapie, they were for an early result. This is twice with the cheapie ones I have had asecond faint line except the first time was passed the ten min period and so I really had discounted that one. Now with the one last night the second line came up just after the test line, well before ten mins- practically after around one/two mins.
Been to boots and got two first response test and will prob do one later and see if any luck. Feel sure i'm preg but don't want to get my hopes up really.
Any advice?

pol25, I have always used the cheapo tests which I bought off the internet. Have never got a false positive before. I believe all store bought tests are a complete rip off and not necessarily more accurate than the cheapo sticks, in fact sometimes less so because of the fancy features.

The fact that your second set of tests took 1/2 minutes is I think a positive, Was the second line this time faint or strong? The delay of 1/2 minutes is the time taken for the liquid to seep up, so the positive is almost immediate.

Feel free to keep testing, but if I were you, would not be able from keep smiling. Best wishes

pol25 · 09/01/2006 09:21

did a first response last night and i'm pregnant!!! Yeah! I guess really I knew I was and felt those signs you have when you're preg!
Yeah i'm now sooooo excited, we'll have fun with edd as my last period was october but know I concieved between the 18 and 22 of Dec!
