Conceiving after Mirena coil

Hi Everyone!!

I'm writing this as a newbie to mumsnet but just wanted some advice (reassurance) from all you other mums out there.

I have a 4 year old son and had a Mirena coil implanted shortly after he was born. Throughout this time I had no problems with Mirena and found it an excellent method of birth control. I had the coil removed in September, bled about 6 days later and had a period about 30 days after that.

I was just wondering how long it took others to conceive after Mirena and if they had any problems along the way.

All info and tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hello. I had a Mirena coil removed and got pregnant 2 weeks after removal. Bit of a shock really, and then I miscarried soon after.
I was told that I shouldn't have ttc straight away(no one told me that when I had it removed).
So I don't think the hormones of the Mirena affected my ovulation but for some people perhaps the hormones have some kind of affect?

Are you having regular periods since you've had it removed?
I have conceived 3 times, and within 1 or 2 months each time,I count myself very very lucky. Each time I made sure we had sex pretty much every day to increase the chances of catching that egg.

Best of luck!

I have had two regular periods since removal. The first month we didn't really try too much and the second we had sex every fertile day to increase our chances....But sadly with no luck:-( I've read that it is better not to ttc straight away as chance of miscarriage is high, but we are just so desperate to give our son a brother or sister!!

Just now my sister-in-law and a few of my friends are pregnant and I think its just getting me down that I still am not. I know we have not been trying for long so hopefully it'll happen some time soon.

Thanks a lot for your response....Its great to hear from u other mums out there. xxx

Hello,
I know this thread is nearly a year old but was wondering whether anyone else would be willing to share their experiences of conceiving after mirena. I'm ttc my first and had my mirena removed nearly 6 weeks ago. Haven't had AF, only very light bleeding (a couple of weeks after it was removed). Pretty sure I'm not pregnant as haven't had any symptoms, but I had very regular cycles before mirena ( had it for 2.5 years) and am wondering how long AF is going to take to arrive so I can start tracking my cycles.
Any advice / experiences really appreciated x

I had mine removed 24 days ago after 2 years 8 months, bled a little for 3 days then more like a period for 6 days.

Feeling v lethargic at the moment but have no idea when to test for ovulation as don't know if that was a period, no idea when to test for pregnancy as no idea when late. Just want to get pregnant so I don't have to go through horrendous periods that I had before. And I want my almost 3 year old son to have a sibling.

I'm 39 so time's A-ticking.

It's really frustrating, isn't it? I've still had no sign of a period so I'm just trying to relax and not worry about it. Good luck - hope you get pg quickly x

Very frustrating. I was on the pill for 18 years and got pregnant after three periods. Took 6 weeks for first one to arrive though. No idea what to expect with the coil. Relaxing is how we got pregnant so definitely a good plan. Fingers crossed for us both. Keep posting!

I had my merina coil removed on Monday, after 4 years. We are going to ttc#3. My nurse said can try as of now (actually a bit scared to dtd!!!) I haven't had an af in 3 years and no bleeding as yet. Have done lots of research and most advice is wait for first af but what happens if it takes ages??? I'm the most impatient person ever and want everything now. I'm slightly obsessed already and it's only been 3 days and haven't even dtd!

Good luck ladies x
