Conception

When's the best time to get pregnant? Use our interactive ovulation calculator to work out when you're most fertile and most likely to conceive.

We are all jolly well going to smack the rat this month and grow a baby and we'll brook no argument. And probably eat some cake too.

Ladies....begin.

OP posts:

Morning all,
Another day off for me, my asthma is playing up so sat on the sofa again for the day. I have also managed to infect DH so am in the dog house and he is on the next sofa feeling equally sorry for himself bless him.

Bean glad to hear your DP has agreed to SA. I had a little battle with mine about getting to the doctor to see what was going on. Really wasn't up for it so I went in first, doc said he would have to go in so eventually he did. It was then a bit of a battle to get him to ring the SA bit at the hospital but we got there in the end but it was then another battle to get him to ring and get the results! Honestly I don't think they realise how anxious and stressful it is for us girlies.

hey popcorn t'was me asking about the app and I signed up for fertility friend last night as well as purchasing two packets of CBFM ov sticks and a thermometer last night from amazon so am ready to give the temping/charting a good go :)

whimsical be careful with the builders and the tea making - Scott mills said he had builders in and someone told him that if a builder has to wait more than 10 minutes within arriving to have a cuppa delivered they add a fiver per hour on to the bill. Grin

scrambled pink CM sounds promising!

Right, I'm going to continue with my OBEM marathon

Stasi · 16/11/2011 12:10

Morning everyone, you've all been chatty since last night! We spent all evening watching Season 5 of Lost. A bit behind, I know, but we wait for it to come out on DVD and get it through Lovefilm. It's all getting a bit silly now, but DH is determined to finish.

Hi Solars, hope you're getting a bit of time to yourself with all the busy bee stuff. Hope this month on the clomid is better. I hate stressing over ttc, and quite like my phone app that tells me when to SWI, and when to expect AF/test. It means I can forget about all the DPO/CD counts. However, while looking earlier to post on the 10 month + thread I noted?

I'm on CD25, with FF predicting my AF today (however, I think it's wrong, total cycle length is normally 27/28 days). Temps still high this morning at 11DPO, if AF doesn't get me by Sat, I might do a test, as my longest ever LP was 13 days?

raspberry I've got a couple of apps on my phone, the fertility friend one, and one called "OvuView". However, these are both on Android. I'd be surprised if there wasn't a FF one for iPhone though. I would recommend temping, I think it actually makes me less obsessive, as I know when I ovulate (so can relax on the SWI) and I know when AF will start first thing in the morning. The day my temp drops I give myself a lay in and a cuddle, AF will come at some point during that day.

Only once has this varied, where my temp dropped 2 days before AF? I wonder now if that was maybe some kind of chemical pg or something, as I remember it being a heavy AF. Has anyone else had this?

I think next cycle I'll try temping fancily, see if it gives a more stable reading.

Little glad you're feeling a bit better, hope the improvement continues today.

Scream wonderful scan news!

Sweetie I hope you're DH finds out lots of useful info from Dr Google, and becomes as supportive as you need. My DH was very good early on in the TTC, I was Googling things myself and finding out so much. The more I told him that he didn't know, the more interested he became in finding things out for himself! Though he did end up looking up more things like "baby making positions" rather than ovulation timing etc. :)

I blame the government drive to cut down teen pgs for how little real info we're actually given. I thought all it would take was one lot of DTD without a condom and we'd be sorted.

Bean big congrats on the victory with the SA. I'm very impressed. I have a very relaxed and tractable DH, but even he was a little embarrassed/put out at the suggestion his swimmers might not be up to the job. I don't think a woman can really understand the relationship between a man and his bits? Can you not get the pot from the doc for him too?

Popcorn we seem to be cycle buddies.. this cycle also started on Oct 23 for me. Our charts are very different though. Congrats on overcoming the sleepy DH, and for losing weight! Really hope this is your cycle for a BFP. Hope the builders are done quick, and don't cost too much.

Whimsical hope you enjoy your hair cut, and your almost-day-off with the builders. Are you nearly done with all your building work now? Sounds like you should have a lovely new look in your house in time for xmas?

Scrambled surely this is a sign of a BFP, and not AF arriving! You could be working on one of those wonderful sounding "mucus plugs". I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, and brooking real hard. I totally understand not wanting to hope too much though. I love being hopeful for other people, but I find I prefer to be pessimistic for myself.

beangrower · 16/11/2011 12:14

Deffo updiffed Scrambled. I'm hot on your heels at 7dpo but feel extremely like I would if AF was on her way in 7 days, as per usual. But needles were good today.

Here's to bad timing for all of us. A BFP in late November/early December just when everyone is settling down to mulle/fizz/specialist beers galore.

My acupuncturist Mrs W said the most simple thing today but made me remember that this is a game of chance [and rat-smacking]: "acupuncture really improves your chances" but of course it is mostly chance with any bit of self-knowledge making all the difference.

TTFN.

beangrower · 16/11/2011 12:39

Ooh yes Stasi - IKWYM about one rule for self (pessimism) another rule for others (genuine hope and optimism). I guess that's what we're all doing on this thread with our brooking. GREAT news about high temps at 11dpo... BROOKING. I'm like you - 27/28 d cycle. That seems good.

Thanks for SA encouragement. I'm off for my d21 test today, the only free test I've been offered so may as well get on with it. Not sure DS is going to be v pleased about visit to hospital after nap but never mind. He'll probably say hello to everyone which given the size of that dept in hospital will deffo keep him busy.

Enjoy the builders Pop and Whimsi and I hope they shift their arses do a good job.

PopcornMouse · 16/11/2011 12:56

Stasi I love Lost! Even when it got silly. There is a poster on here somewhere called PreviouslyOnLost and I think it's the best. name. ever. Every time I hear/see it, I hum the themetune a little bit in my head :o

You have such a neat chart! Mine looked like that in the beginning, but this one especially has been all over the place. At a very wild guess, I think I'm now only 2DPO (I feel like I've gone back in time :o ) so AF will be due 27th. I want to POAOPK to make sure I am/was at the end of my surge, but the builders are right next to the cabinet where they're kept Blush

I also love what you said about the government - I have thought for a long time it's all a bit of a conspiracy & propaganda, but didn't like to say so incase I sounded like a nut :o But I totally, totally agree. In retrospect, I was given zero fertility education in school, and the now infamous "be careful not to even sit on a wet patch" seems utterly hilarious in a really crap sort of way Hmm

PopcornMouse · 16/11/2011 12:59

Good luck at the hospital bean :)

PopcornMouse · 16/11/2011 13:04

Ok, so if my temp tomorrow is high, then FF reckons I'm currently 2dpo and gives me a fertile rating of "low". If it's medium to low, then it goes back to thinking I ov'd on CD19 despite my +OPK yesterday and gives me a fertile rating of "high". Why can't this just be easy? sob

Ok Popcorn, step away from the chart.......

raspberrytipple · 16/11/2011 13:18

Just to add to what Popcorn/Stasi said - I just watched 'The Great Sperm Race' on 4oD. Man do those little guys have a tough time - I'm amazed that ANYONE gets preggo EVER! Definitely going to get DH on a diet that will make his sperm as strong as possible. It's a bloody nightmare and us wimmin aint very accommodating to the poor little chaps! So much for 'you can still get updiffed having sex in the bath/sitting on a wet patch/just using fingers that have touched a tip Shock

SweetieDoesIt · 16/11/2011 13:25

Oh dear ladies who chart you are not selling it to me as a newbie, I was thinking of giving it a go after to Christmas when I finally knuckle down to proper TTC. It seems very complicated and loads of rules . I am also toying with the OPK sticks too but these all seems a bit unpredictable not to mention bloody expensive for the smiley face ones

Who says this TTC was easy???

Good luck at the hospital bean, am interested to know what your 21 day result is as mine was off the scale!!! Confused My DH did his SA with very little encouragement shocked as he is VERY shy but I think it helped that he could "produce it" at home then rush it down to the hospital for analysis.

beangrower · 16/11/2011 13:37

Oh I know sex education is all scare tactics and eugenics. Although some people are now beginning to think that women should go for 'fertility MOTs' if they're thinking of delaying childbearing, but this is really a message from private clinics hoping to make some squids out of new tests like the AMH test (can reveal ovarian reserve).

BUT - I guess it is important to suggest that it's not ideal to start having children at 14 to early 20s when you haven't found the right man. And infertility can affect women of any age. For a while I was all 'Oh the age thing is bullshit' (being a smug cycle 2 conceiver at 37) - now I'm a believer of 'Start your family in your early 30s (at least) if you can'. Blah, blah. But it probably doesn't make much difference - everyone's circumstances and reproductive health are unique to them and their dynamic with their DP.

I thought when we were TTC DS it would take forever (hence the rush even though DP had only just moved into my house); I never imagined that after DS came along so quickly that we'd have such a struggle for another DC and was hoping to slip one under the wire without DP ever even noticing that I was having AFs again... SILLY old Bean, that I am.

Bugger it - it's a cruel world for TTCers of more than 4 months if you ask me (getting steadily more cruel as the months go by). Downright worrying and upsetting and surprising because of the propaganda from our youth that you're discussing here...

BTW - I did have a fertility MOT at 35 (with no man on the scene, bereaved and obsessed with having a child whatever). Everything looked v rosy then (lots of eggs lining up to be popped - so the scan said), so I'm not convinced that it would help either. Problems can come at people out of nowhere, sadly. BOO.

beangrower · 16/11/2011 13:41

Thanks Sweetie - what was yours? I know we need high to be reproductive, but off the scale usually means BFP doesn't it?! I expect mine to be on the lower side because of age but hopefully not imperceptible! Hmm

Bless your DH. That's great. When are the results due back?

Yes - I'm hoping we get a home kit too. How long are you given from the moment of production to courier the white stuff to the lab? Grin

Stasi · 16/11/2011 14:32

Getting some pre-AF symptoms today, though they could be pg symptoms too, technically... Little bit of cramping/discomfort (implantation cramps? / AF / too much for lunch?) and watery CM that makes me worry it's AF turning up and run to the loo to check.

SweetieDoesIt · 16/11/2011 14:48

Stasi why is mother natures symptoms so confusing? Am brooking for AF not darkening your door.

Bean DH got his results back last Friday and all ok. Delivery to the hospital had to be within the hour of production. He had to make an appointment for dropping it off.

My progesterone was only 17 on the first time so I had them repeated last month and it was 125 nmol. Norm is between 16 and 30. Tried googling it but nothing much came back for such a high result.

beangrower · 16/11/2011 15:07

I know that progesterone has to be v high to sustain a pregnancy, first trimester before the placenta kicks in. Presumably you could be preggers and now have BFP symptoms?!

Great about the wrigglers. Your DH must have looked like the cat that got the cream!

x

beangrower · 16/11/2011 15:09

Stasi - hang on in there. Could be either but brooking for your BFP.

farfallarocks · 16/11/2011 15:10

Blimey sweetie that is really really high, could you be pregnant?

17 means its likely they did it on the wrong day?

farfallarocks · 16/11/2011 15:10

Oh and smegs that sounds very very promising to me indeed!

PopcornMouse · 16/11/2011 15:10

Gosh sweetie there's nothing like pressure to perform! Ha ha

Don't let me put you off sweetie, I looooove charting and on the whole it's resulted in less stress and has been pretty plain sailing til now. I just do. not. know. what my body is doing this month.

I mean, Ffs peoples! My OPK was the same strength as yesterday, i.e. very nearly +, which is as strong as they ever seem to go with me (which I've read is not unusual and not cause for concern??). My temps high though, so I am not oving!

PopcornMouse · 16/11/2011 15:11

stasi I refuse to believe it's AF, it's waaaay to early and perfect timing for implantation :o

SweetieDoesIt · 16/11/2011 15:24

I think they did the first one too close to AF, think it was day 23 and AF arrived 2 days later. Dr did sort of hint such a high reading the 2nd time could mean preggers, but then I got AF the next day so not really sure what was going on. Mother nature taking the proverbial me thinks Confused

I was nervous about DH results not sure how he would have taken it if they weren't as expected but he did what was required and all is good. Grin

ScrambledSmegs · 16/11/2011 15:36

More pink cm. Feel crampy and grotty. 19 day cycle is Just Not On.

PopcornMouse · 16/11/2011 15:38

Oh smegs :(

That's longer than it used to be, isn't it? slaps her dodgy memory

ScrambledSmegs · 16/11/2011 15:45

Sadly no. If it is AF it will be my shortest cycle in memory Sad.

PopcornMouse · 16/11/2011 15:59

Oh no! Well then in that case, if it's not normal, I would expect that pink CM was not AF? Either implantation or maybe a bit of rough SWI? Blush It could be anything :o

possiblemaybebaby · 16/11/2011 16:43

I am here everyone, and I have been lurking, have just had a nutcase on my hands. I am still brooking for you all Grin Not getting in much swi as one can imagine Grin

I apologise for my lack of posts, but....

Munk I am so so sorry my lovely. I hope you are getting lots and lots of TLC. Thoughts are with you, and can't wait to have you back when you have healed.

Stasi congratulations Grin I hope you are enjoying your first few weeks of married life.

Smegs That sucks. But with a little luck, it will not be AF Smile
