Will I be prescribed Clomid?

We've been trying to conceive for nearly 2 years. I got pregnant last Christmas but miscarried in February at 9 weeks. I'm 35 my husband is 37 and neither of us had a child before.

My husband has just had a sperm test and this has come back as ok. I had my bloods taken last year which were ok too. However, over the last 6 months I've monitoried my ovulation carefully and according to my records I am not ovulating every month - infact I've only ovulated 3 out of the last 6 months.

I'm at my wits end now, and have a doctor's appointment next week to discuss the next step. Do you think they'll prescribe Clomid, or test me again for another month? Any advice from people who've been in similar situations owuld be very much appreciated. Thank you!

Nope, no HSG yet. I just wondered what the next step was after we've both been tested. I'm convinced I don't ovulate every month!

Any blood test for you done over 6 months ago should be discounted; you both need up to date test results.

In your case the blood tests should now be repeated; they should do a day 2 test to check and compare your LH level against that of your FSH level. LH and FSH are two very important hormones; if these levels are awry then ovulation is affected (these two levels are normally the same).

You ought to be referred as a couple now to a subfertility unit without any further delay.

What you need first and foremost is a diagnosis of the underlying problem -would not get too jung up yet on either clomid or a HSG.

You will need to be persistant in order to get answers; it is all too easy to be fobbed off. Ask questions of them, if GP is clueless ask at that time for a referral to the specialists.

You need to ask for a referral to a specialist unit. Your GP isn't the best/right person to be dealing infertility beyond initial investigations. Good luck

Are you using Fertility Friend, OPKs etc to monitor your ovulation?

I don't think your GP will prescribe clomid (I know mine can't/won't) she said it has to be done through the local fertility clinic. As you are 35 your GP should refer you asap for further investigations as the waiting time can be quite long depending on where you live.

Your GP should have referred you to a fertility clinic long ago (the guideline is a year of trying under 35 or 6 months at 35+).

The way it went for me seems to be similar to a lot on here.
Day 3 and 21 bloods done by GP.
SA ordered by GP
Gp refers to fertility clinic
Gynae at fertility clinic does pelvic exam and orders internal ultrasound, HSG, a second SA and one blood test the GP didn't do.

That's the stage I am at now. I go back to see the gynae next week to get the results of the tests and (I hope) talk about treatment options. I have no idea yet if Clomid will be one of the options as I do appear to be ovulating and no issues have been detected. I will know next week!

I am quite anxious. I had assumed that because we finally did get pregnant last year that everything was ok and that we'd be pregnant again within a few months. As we near Christmas I'm starting to panic (not good I know) and am desperate for some answers now. My husband doesn't really understand the urgency for me, and whilst he's going along with the process he believes that because it happened before it will happen again. It's causing tension between us really,.......

My heart will break on Wednesday if they say I have to be referred to the hospital for more tests and there's a long waiting list. I just want to KNOW if there's anything wrong and what we can do about it!

Should just add that I'm using home ovulation kits. I'm using them properly, and for the last 2 months I've had nothing to indicate I've ovulated. No discharge either, which for me is very noticable on months when I do ovulate.

Try not to panic. The waiting list at my hospital wasn't very long and after the first appointment I felt like we had an action plan - including diagnostic tests and procedures and then a treatment plan depending on the outcomes of these tests. Whilst the testing is being done there's no reason why you can't get pregnant naturally. You need to push your gp into referring you though. Check the NICE guidelines before your appt (and print out if you think that it will help). If you gp isn't any good try and make an appt with another gp in the practice straight away afterwards.
