Any info on bicornuate uterus??

I had a mmc 9 days ago and when I had the scan at 8 weeks they told me I have a heart shaped uterus,I have 3 children and haven't had any problems before this so this is a bit of a shock.

Maybe it had nothing to do with the bicornuate uterus but just wondered if anyone else has this and if they had any problems,they weren't very helpful at the hospital and Im worrying abt it now for if we want to try again.

i had a bi cornuate uterus but mine was slightly different where mine had a normal oddly shaped womb then another separate womb where a fallopian tube should have been. it took me 6 months to conceive and i had to have c section because of my womb shape ds couldn't turn so was breech from about 6 mnths pregnant.
i was told that if one side of my womb was weaker where the shape was differant that baby might not have a lot of room to grow hence not being able to turn late in pregnancy = c section. also about the placenta attaching on a weak side of the womb getting correct oxygen and nutrients. but i think they just tell you that as a scare the shit out of you precaution.
my ds was born 61b 10 oz 2 weeks early by c section. healthy pregnancy no problems and healthy baby.
don't worry too much but i would ask to speak to a specialist i was classed as a high risk pregnancy and had to continue my mw appointments at the hospital with regular scanning just to make sure all was fine.

DS1 was breech so I had c-section. I asked ob if there was any reason he was breech and he said I had slightly heart-shaped uterus. It wasn't flagged as a problem, but DD1 arrived at 36+5 after my waters went early. DS2 arrived at 30 weeks. I didn't really see a pattern until his birth, but I wouldn't risk a fourth being even earlier.

But, in your situation, if you've had 3 children and pregnancies without problem, then the MMC probably wasn't to do with your uterus. What an awful experience for you, but more common than you think (going by my friends and family who have been through it).

There is an exceptionally informative Yahoo group (mainly based in the US) at mulleriananomalies.blogspot.com/ - if you join that, the people on it would be able to answer anything on this and there is a resident medical specialist to advise.

From what I understand, there are a number of different levels of BU - you might just have a slight heart shaped dip, or a severe one. It doesn't necessarily affect fertility, and in your case, having had 3 children (esp if born at reasonable sizes/to term) it doesn't sound much of an issue necessarily. The particular big risk seems to be late marriage (20 weeks plus) cos your uterus isn't big enough - but that clearly isn't the case for you.

I know all this cos I got speculatively misdiagnosed with it so did lots of research for nothing

Thank you all for your replies,I have just been for a scan and they told me that its a slight heart shape and that's why its never been picked up before and I haven't had any problems other than my first being born at 36 weeks,the next two were both at full term.

Thanks for update and good to know it shouldn't be a problem. I think maybe lots of people have it to some degree, but never have problems so it's never diagnosed.
