Anyone else taking Vitamin B6 for short luteal phase?

Actually I'm taking B50 complex, but mainly for the B6.

I felt really, really nauseated the other day (way too early for pg symptoms, probably 5 dpo) and have been off and on queasy since.

Is this the vitamins?

My other theories are that the B6 has worked its magic and it was a reaction to higher progestorone levels than I've had of late. Or that it's made no difference and an excess of oestrogen at this part of my cycle is making me feel unwell.

I've taken it in the past and don't remember any nausea; however, I started taking it again a month or two ago and experienced the same symptoms you are describing. I assumed it was the vit B, stoped taking it and felt better, so I think you could be right. When I took it previously, it seemed to work in lengthening my LP, so I suppose you need to weigh up the nausea versus how short your LP is and decide whether to carry on with it or not.

Good luck!

eurochick · 20/09/2011 14:06

Make sure you take it with food.

I have found certain vitamins do make me feel very nauseous if taken alone.

SheCutOffTheirTails · 20/09/2011 14:10

I always take it with food. Well, nearly always. But certainly almost always have it after my evening meal. But I've been feeling ill in the evenings BEFORE I've eaten.

It worked Generic? Then I'll stick with it I think.

My LP has improved somewhat to around 13 days to full AF, but I'm still getting spotting at 10dpo.

Thanks guys :)

Hi! I am taking 100mg of vit B complex as my LP was 10 days. I just got my BFP! Grin

They make me feel sick too. I second the recommendation to have them in a full stomach, but still felt sick on them, just less so!

Good luck!

SheCutOffTheirTails · 20/09/2011 15:03

Many congratulations duke :)

When I saw your post in my Threads I'm On I didn't expect such a lovely surprise when I opened it.

duke748 · 20/09/2011 15:15

Ah, thanks. I hope it does the same for you!

SheCutOffTheirTails · 20/09/2011 16:05

Me too! :o

Do you mind me asking how quickly you got your BFP (and any previous improvements to LP) after you started taking it?

OP posts:
duke748 · 20/09/2011 16:12

No worries.

I took 50mg for a month and that meant LP changed from 10 days to 12 days (but spotting from day 10). Then I upped it to 100mg and got my BFP in 2nd month.

I hope it helps.

SheCutOffTheirTails · 23/09/2011 09:34

Seems to have bought me an extra day without spotting, which makes me unaccountably happy.

Thinking of upping dose to 100mg next month, although still feeling pretty crud on and off during the day.

Do you take your B6 in addition to any conception/pre-natal vits?

duke748 · 23/09/2011 10:35

Yeah, I did. Check out the labels to see how much is already in your pregnancy vits.

Looks like things are moving in the right direction SheCut...

Good luck!

SheCutOffTheirTails · 23/09/2011 11:33

Yeah, I'm taking 50mg B6 in my B50 complex, and 10mg B6 in my pregnecare conception vits.

I'm considering going up to B100 complex, but not sure.

I started taking B6 (50mg) this month after realising I had a short luteal phase (8/9 days for about 6 months now). It made me feel quite nauseous for the first few days and left me with a funny taste in my mouth but, after I started taking it with my main meal, I didn't get those symptoms any more. I ovulated about day 14 this month instead of day 19/20! And, now, on day 25, I've just got a BFP! I was convinced that I wasn't pregnant as I had very slight spotting a few days ago, which made me think luteal phase problem, rather than the implantation bleeding it must have been! I didn't have implantation bleeding with my dd so feeling a little nervous and realise it's early days, but am convinced the B6 helped. Good luck and hope the same happens for you soon!

SheCutOffTheirTails · 23/09/2011 11:57

Wow, congratulations :) :)

What great news.

I had implantation bleeding with DD2, but not with DD1, I don't think that's anything to worry about.

MumOfEmily · 23/09/2011 12:06

Thanks - and you've reassured me about the implantation bleeding! Hope you're feeling better soon and the B6 works for you! :)

PieMistress · 23/09/2011 20:47

Are you continuing to take the B6 during 1st Tri? congrats on the bfp! :)

SheCutOffTheirTails · 24/09/2011 08:03

Yes, I'm curious about whether people keep taking the vits post-BFP.

Well, it looks like the B50s have given me 2 extra days without spotting. This means 12 dpo. This month I have a normal length LP before first signs of AF. Result! :)

I hope the nausea isn't too bad today. Feeling queasy on CD28 is going to lead to certain thoughts - even if I've been feeling that way for a week :o

MumOfEmily · 24/09/2011 15:14

Yes, I am continuing with the B6 for the first trimester, in case it's still helping with my progesterone levels somehow! I've heard that some women take it for morning sickness, and done lots of reading around safety at that dose in pregnancy and it doesn't look like it should do any harm at 50mg.

SheCutOffTheirTails · 25/09/2011 07:54

AF is due to start today, and I still haven't had any spotting :)

I'm expecting the spotting to start today, although starting to wonder if I might be pregnant.

Have had a bit of weird beige/tan cm though, so probably not. The vitamin nausea is a killer of a phantom symptom.

Right, better go and eat breakfast before I throw up.

OP posts:
MumOfEmily · 25/09/2011 12:34

Fingers crossed! Maybe the nausea is a real symptom...

notthehippopotamus · 25/09/2011 19:14

Thank you for this thread! I've recently started charting my cycles after coming off the pill, in preparation for starting to TTC hopefully quite soon, but was a bit worried as I seem to be getting spotting from 10 dpo and AF arriving by 12dpo. Definitely going to try Vitamin B6 after reading all your stories.

Good luck SheCutOffTheirTails - hope it is a real symptom! :)

SheCutOffTheirTails · 26/09/2011 09:55

It's not - BFN

Still, seems to have sorted my weird cycle right out.

Bumping up this thread! Any updates or new stories? I have the same question my LP is 10-11 days. Been taking agnus castus since feb but that doesn't seem to have worked yet so thinking of trying b6 instead/ in addition
Thanks

Pipbin · 13/06/2012 11:17

This is now my second cycle of taking B100 complex.
I found that my LP went from 12 to 14 days but best of all spotting only started at 10 DPO rather than the 5DPO had had been before.

I found that B6 on it's own didn't do much but when I went to the complex I noticed a difference.

Be aware though, it makes your pee bright yellow and a bit stinky!

Christelle2207 · 13/06/2012 11:58

V useful thanks. I have been spotting from 7-8 days then AF from 10-11 fx it makes a difference
