I have only just re-started my periods, after years of having none because i was on the depo. Now sex has become very painfull, ( deep inside )... any lights anyone can shed or suggestions.... ( i am down for a laperoscomy, but this can't be done until may, as i am away for three months.)

Deep pain during sex can be indicative of endometriosis (perhaps this is why the lap operation has been suggested).

Do you have any other symptoms apart from this problem?.

Hi

Pain in between periods can be another possible symptom as well as severe pain during a period or in the lead up to a period arriving.

An 18 day cycle is not right either; something is amiss here. I hope the lap operation will give you some answers.

Re the lap they need to tell you exactly what was found (I can give you a list of questions to ask them)ideally not after you just come round from the GA. You should be followed up by the consultant within a week post operation.

Rachee · 08/12/2005 22:13

Thank you soo much, a list of questions would be fantastic... op not due till May cause i am away and nhs can't get it done any quicker, do you think it is worth paying private ? or would an ultra sound show this up, as i can have that done whenever ( a friends mum runs an ultra sound business but i haven't mentioned anything) ....

Deep pain in itself can be indicative of chlamydia. Sounds like you've had all the basic checks though?

MeerkatsUnite · 09/12/2005 09:24

Rachee,

An internal ultrasound scan will not detect endometriosis deposits if they are present.

You would certainly have the lap done earlier if you were a private patient; I would certainly consider it if symptoms were impacting on your day to day life. Have you talked with your consultant?.

The first thing you need to do when you have recovered from the op is to ask your surgeon exactly what was found and what was done:

Were the ovaries and fallopian tubes healthy?
Did you have an ovarian endometrioma - if so how big?
Did you have many adhesions?
Was there any bowel or bladder involvement?
What stage is the endo?
Were any nerves cut to relieve pain?
What further treatment is recommended?

Rachee · 11/12/2005 21:27

had all blood tests to check for any infections.. ALL negative, nothing ever been present.

The pain has only started getting really bad since i have been having periods again... ( had a four year break off them as i have been on the depo injection and it stopped all the periods)

BTW endometriosis if it is there will not be detected through blood tests either.

Rachee · 13/12/2005 20:36

Can endo be detected by an ultra sound ?

No, not by ultrasound either although it will give a general overview of both the uterine cavity and ovaries. A lap is the gold standard operation done to detect endometriosis deposits.
