Let's crack on.

Scarlet!!! That's amazing news! Congratulations!! Many thanks for the tutorial as well!

Can I just ask, what exactly does the vit B complex do, fertility-wise? Does it just lengthen your luteal phase? Or does it actually increase the amount of progesterone around throughout the luteal phase? My LP is already 15 to 19 days each month, and I don't want to wait any longer than I have to for AF if it hasn't worked! On the other hand I had soooooooooo many symptoms last month that I've never had before, and I'm convinced I had a chemical pregnancy, so maybe I just need some vit B to help the bean get a bit stickier?

Fingers crossed that your bean will be firmly brooking no argument for the next 8 months Scarlet!

Best of luck to Dream for tomorrow!! Soooooo exciting!!

Imps I would take any pregnancy-related info from the US with a big pinch of salt. Did you know that some states have laws that make miscarriage a crime! Parts of that country are very very odd (not all of it of course though!!! The UK has more than its fair share of weirdos as well!!)

Final point, I've been meaning to mention this for a few days actually. Ages ago (back on the last thread!) someone mentioned pineapple juice as good for encouraging/supporting implantation. So being a superstitious sort I started drinking lots of pineapple juice straight after ov! It was a few days before it occurred to me to actually check this out on Google, and it turns out that pineapple juice is really bad whilst ttc and in early pregnancy. Something about stimulating uterus contractions which can increase your chances of miscarriage. I seriously doubt that unless you're eating several whole pineapples every day that this would have any real impact on your pregnancy (especially given the amount of NO BROOKING going on in here!) however I just thought I'd mention it in case anyone else is as superstitious as me!

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 17/08/2011 13:48

D'oh! I've just checked the list of vitamins in the pregnacare conception vitamins I've been taking for the last few months, and they already have all the various vit B's needed for fertility! Yay, it looks like the vit B angle is already covered!

Hopefully that means the male version of the pregnacare conception tablets, which I've been force feeding DH for the last month, also have the vit B's needed for the little swimmers. Yay! I finally feel less ripped off happy with the pregnacare prices!

scarletfingernail · 17/08/2011 13:52

Thanks scream

Re the pineapple. I'd always believed you should avoid pineapple if there's a chance you could be pregnant. It is believed to stimulate the uterus into contracting which is why many overdue woman eat it in copious amounts (I ate loads at 40 weeks with DS) When you guys were talking about it on the previous thread I thought maybe some new research must have come out, but thankfully I didn't get round to buying any.

I'm not sure vitamin B complex helps fertility wise. But, it is supposed to help boost progesterone. Progesterone is needed to support a pregnancy and help it stick once it's been created and it's what the bean feeds off until the placenta is fully functioning. I started taking it as I believe I might have low progesterone and think it might have been the reason for my 2 MCs, so was really to get a boost in case I did get pregnant again.

So, while it might not help with the actual conception part, it could help it stick. (Time will tell) There's been a few times I've had a late period and suspected it was a chemical pregnancy. B6 is the important one, but as little pointed out on the old thread, it's believed you need to take the complex as well as the extra B6 for it to work. The complex contains a small amount of B6 plus other vits and a small amount of folic acid to give that an extra boost too.

*BTW I have no medical knowledge. This is all from reading on here plus Lesley Regan's Miscarriage book.

maybebabyR · 17/08/2011 14:05

I have read this too Scream about the pineapple juice. I don't understand how there are 2 completely opposite opinions on it Hmm

dreamfeeder · 17/08/2011 14:56

Yes imps, it also assumes that we all have a diet deficient in folic acid. High sources of folic acid are whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta, breakfast cereal, orange juice, pineapple and grapefruit juice, spinach, aspargaus, Enriched white bread, Enriched pasta, cooked lentils, Black-eyed peas, Pinto beans or chickpeas,
Sunflower seeds, Okra, Asparagus - broccoli i think- and a whole load of other foods in most of our everyday diets. In fact, we're probably all overdosing!!!

scarlet, i'm still smiling thinking of your BFP, can't imagine how delighted you and DH are. We're just back from the playground with a DD in her cot, knackered. I kind of want to POAS tomorrow but i'm very scared it'll be a BFN not sure when to use my one-and-only test, so maybe I should celebrate yours again tmw morning and wait a bit longer....
opinons please Smile

*little8, you are going to sort that luteal phase out no prob at all with your b-vitamins, Brooking will fit like a glove especially once you get your BFP this month

Biscuitsandtea · 17/08/2011 15:00

Afternoon all,

Well, we've been and here is a little jelly bean in there with a teeny tiny flickering little heartbeat! Measured 19mm which makes me 8+3 which is further than I thought. Still too small to be moving or anything but deffo a little heartbeat flickering away.

Weirdly DH had to sit at the bottom of the bed so couldn't hold my hand. He had to squeeze my foot instead Confused but both very relieved in the Biscuit house.

Thank you all or your supportive words prior to this. It really does mean a lot. Still a way to go to the 12 week mark and we're still not telling people, but getting a heartbeat feels like another hurdle passed.

I am now enjoying a jam and cream scone and hot choc in John Lewis to calm myself Smile

dreamfeeder · 17/08/2011 15:03

oh, missed the pineapple stuff. Now from what i understand anyway, it has to be FRESH pineapple, as it's an enzyme in the pineapple that can stimulate uterine contractions and that's why it should be avoided in early pregnancy. I also think you have to eat quite a lot of it- I've got 3 pineapples in my head, not sure where from. I thought the juice wasn't bad as the enzyme is denatured by the juicing/sterilising/additives etc????

AND RIGHT!!!!! I WILL take my blooming folic acid as it is the pregnacare one with the B vitamins, aarrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh i've done myself out of a helpful thing by being a tool!!!!!!!!!

jenfraggle · 17/08/2011 15:03

So glad the scan went well biscuits. I hope you are putting the jam on first and the cream after (the proper cornish way)

dreamfeeder · 17/08/2011 15:05

biscuits, i am risking Husband Wrath because I'm Sooooooooo pleased your little baby has a heartbeat and is doing well so far!!! And at least you're past the 8 weeks mark so your mc chance has already dropped Grin

scarletfingernail · 17/08/2011 15:18

biscuits that is fantastic news! I'm so pleased you've seen your LO and it really isn't that long now until 12 weeks! Smile

dream I'm still smiling about my BFP too. I even just managed a 30 minute nap on the sofa while DS asleep. I'm starting this pregnancy as I mean to go on!

Why do GP's get Wednesday afternoons off? Is there some sort of law from when the NHS started that says no one must be ill on a Wednesday afternoon? I don't begrudge your DH being off for the afternoon dream was just wondering the reason?

dreamfeeder · 17/08/2011 15:19

ah ha, found this on pineapple- DH unlading some shopping so no discovery and no Wrath Grin

Pineapple contains the enzyme bromelain which is thought to help soften your cervix and bring on labour. Eating large amounts will probably stimulate your tummy, which could also stimulate your uterus.

GenericDietCola · 17/08/2011 15:27

Biscuits fabulous news whoop whoop! Two great pieces of news then! Sadly no good news in real life, just more stress (totally unrelated to TTC).

Back to work now...

BabySade · 17/08/2011 15:29

Right sorry if I don't make sense as have just woken up. Oh my god I'm freaking out a bit as I've eaten lots of fresh pineapple this week. Do you think that could have caused that weird pain I had the other day? I feel so stupid, I don't normally eat much pineapple as it gives me cramps.

Also can never remember to take my folic acid either as I have no routine due to working shifts

Arghh is it not enough that I have way more sex than is natural?! I have to remember all this crap as well

On a positive note am so pleased your scan went well Biscuits and that babybiscuits is ok

Sorry for the lack of positivity Im v grumpy when working nights Angry

NinjaChipmunk · 17/08/2011 15:30

oh biscuits I'm so glad to hear it went well and you saw/ heard the heartbeat. scarlet's right, 12 weeks isn't that far, well done you, enjoy your scone Grin
I soooooo need to pregnant (I mean really actually rl pregnant) as I'm coming over all funny reading about biscuits and scarlet today. Roll on end of august bfp!
I have another question - I have my first hospital appointment on saturday morning which i know will just be a consultant discussion, but what do I need to leave having sorted out? Should I ask for dye in the tubes to check for blockages? do i need to take details of my blood test and dp's sperm assessment? what about details of my af? Can those in the know let me know what they think?

Biscuitsandtea · 17/08/2011 15:31

Gosh I feel bad for spreading the pineapple stuff!! I read it on here somewhere, had forgotten the labour stuff and not clever enough to think to footpath myself. Maybe this means my bean is mega sticky as I was drinking pineapple juice in my 2ww.

Feel guilty for being so silly Sad

Oh, and Jen definitely jam first, would be all wrong upside down Confused

CakePigeon · 17/08/2011 15:32

Lovely story about your first scan biscuits it sounds adorable seeing a little fluttering heart beat

I am also scared of BFNs dream some months I obsessively test from about 9dpo so I can tell myself it is just too early and others I just think oh what's the point? And just wait for AF. But not this month as I am Brooking No Argument, AF is not invited. Good luck deciding though, I know it's scary, your whole month seems to be leading up to test day, I'm always a bit nervous at the end of the month! I'm already obsessively pant checking and I think I can only be about 6/7dpo!

Biscuitsandtea · 17/08/2011 15:32

'footpath' should have said google...

CakePigeon · 17/08/2011 15:35

Ooh scones! thanks biscuits!

BabySade · 17/08/2011 15:38

Biscuits please don't feel bad I heard that pineapple was a good thing from
other threads & from friends in RL too. I kept meaning to try it, really its Tescos fault for putting it on offer as im a cheapskate & wouldnt have bought it otherwise Anyway all that means is I'll be getting my ironic BFP in a few weeks will cut down on excessive pineapple eating though just in case

The positivity has returned all it took was a cup of tea & a cuddle with my lovely doggy Smile Sorry guys

Imps7 · 17/08/2011 15:45

Just logging on quickly while my office room mate gets a coffee -

Yay Biscuits! Good news! Can't imagine something that's only 1.9cm long having a heartbeat - how weeny must that heart be?

dreamfeeder · 17/08/2011 15:46

babysade unless youw ere eating ENORMOUS amounts, like several whole ones, it makes no difference. At my antenatal class, the midwife said categorically its only fresh, not reliable etc etc. Believe me, i ate sed loads of fresh pineapple to try and get my labour going. No luck!!! It will have made no difference.

scarlet, there is obviously still GP cover on a wed afternoon, just not my DH! GP's are employed in sessions-as in one morning plus home visits = 1 session, one afternoon surgery = 1 session so in a week there are 10 sessions. My DH works 7 sessions so finishes 'half day' on wed (usually 4pm!) and is off Thursdays.

biscuits, no need for guilt and pineapple juice doesn't count anyway!!!

dreamfeeder · 17/08/2011 15:47

err, that i ate SHED loads, and 'were'.... blimey what poor typing

dreamfeeder · 17/08/2011 15:51

ninja, I'd take ALL details of everything you've had (after all, informing the consultant more about your cycle/investigations etc can only give them a better handle on you) and write a list of all your questions. I always, always forget what I wanted to ask if I don't write a list. I think if you go in like that informed and objective rather than waffling subjectively they'll take more notice. And the consultant will be aiming to help you Grin Thats just an opinion, not actually useful medical advice

farfallarocks · 17/08/2011 16:34

biscuits fab news, well done minibiscuit!

OP posts:
scarletfingernail · 17/08/2011 16:35

Thanks for that dream. Must be just my GP surgery that's still in the dark ages and the whole place shuts down at 12pm every Wednesday.

Ninja write everything down that you can think of that might be relevant and even if you think it might not be, including any problematic pregnancies or gynae history of any close female relatives.
