Let's face it May 2012 is full of bank holidays leading up to an extra day off thanks to the Queen. We are all bound to get updiffed and miss the time off -(where we should be in the pub) looking after our new babies.

A bus for those who find it difficult to remember new names. Ting ting - no getting off untilk a BFP.

Starting the stats Bleats (31) TTC#1 af due 31st Aug ish

Sounds like this thread is getting a bit saucy!! Grin

Quick question because am now on cd51 and still no af and loads of bfn so am just trying to get on with it and carry on as normal. Can i still be ovulating even if im not getting af probably asking a silly question but need to cling on to som hope?????

WaitingforStork · 23/08/2011 07:51

Hello everyone, it's been a long time since I jumped on a bus, probably the January bus was the last one I was on. Been trying for our first since January with not a hint of a BFP so got a bit down and stayed away for a while but back now with renewed optimisim so can I have a ticket pleasy please???

My DH is away quite a bit with work which doesn't help but he's home between cd10 and cd20 this month so getting my hopes up already, he knows what he's in for.

Away to read back over the last couple of pages to catch up on the gossip and find the most up to date stats so I can add myself in but just wanted to say a big hello, good morning and good luck to everyone!

Welcome back stork, I remember you from January. That's when we started ttc too!

Just an update on my dtd marathon - 5 times in 8 days, 2 more to go!!!!

MyCatLikesToHideInBoxes · 23/08/2011 11:14

Welcome Stork - good to have you!

brynsie I am massively impressed by your shagathon - you so deserve a bfp this month! In fact, for commitment to the baby making cause, I hereby award you the biscuit digi-medal of honour - wear it with pride... Biscuit

I feel like we're all getting lovely and cosy on the bus and quite a few of us are in the 2ww where we need to stop ourselves poas keep ourselves distracted so I'm going to do my bit by starting off a question of the day...

I have recently become a bit obsessed with watching The Vampire Diaries. For those of you who don't know, it's a tv series telling tales of teenage angst combined with vampires, werewolves, witches and the supernatural. In it two (not unattractive) vampire brothers compete for the affections of one girl and they all try to come to terms with growing up (or not in the case of the vampires) as well as trying not to get killed by various supernatural baddies. I know it's sad but I just love it, love it, love it and I have glutted on 44 episodes in the last two weeks since I discovered it Blush

So ladies, I've told you mine, now what is everyone elses guilty pleasure? (apart from this bus of course)

minipie · 23/08/2011 11:59

Morning all!

Cat my guilty pleasure is the X Factor. In theory I think it's dreadful but I still watch it (though I do fast forward through a lot of the build up and mawkish bits, and the dreadful singers). I might have cried a tiny bit at the Irish 16 year old last week Blush Blush.

Question: what is everyone's view on how many times to DTD during fertile phase? One half of me says "the more the better" but then the other half remembers that advice about "every other day" creating stronger sperm or something Confused.

Oh and also: anyone use pre-seed here? Have just started trying it out ...

[nosy emoticon]

MyCatLikesToHideInBoxes · 23/08/2011 13:47

Lol at x-factor confession minipie - you aren't the only one.. I like it when it gets to the live show stage but can't be doing with the auditions (not enough singing for my liking)

As for dtd frequency, well I tend to only bother when I get a smiley face (either dh or opk, whichever comes first) and then either every other day or daily depending on the time to energy ratio. Saying that though, I'm only a couple of months in I might be more motivated to swi every day from cd 8ish if I'm still here in a few months time.

Everything I've read says that the whole too much sex ruining quality of sperm thing is a bit of a myth and one study even concluded that short term daily sex improved it:

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8125934.stm

minipie · 23/08/2011 14:49

Ooh, now that is interesting. Yes I meant how frequently during the "fertile window". I've been planning on every other day during the fertile time but maybe I might upgrade to every day....

By the way, you might want to DTD on the couple of days before the smiley OPK - because sperm can live for a while inside you (slightly eww) whereas the egg only lives for a day or so after ovulation (at least according to what I read).

MyCatLikesToHideInBoxes · 23/08/2011 15:35

You are absolutely right I know minipie, and I loved the bit on the Human Body programme about how our amazing bodies put the sperm into a kind of sleep for up to 5 days and then wake them up when we ovulate - nature is so clever!

The problem I have is a totally erratic cycle - last month ov'd cd16, this month cd11 (hence using opk's) and what with fatigue issues, a toddler and neither dh or I having a very high sex drive to be honest I just can't be arsed to be dtd for potentially two weeks solid and we stop swi after 2 days past the Smile - in fact we rarely swoi either! Grin

On the plus side, when we do do it we put in 110%...

Spuddybean · 23/08/2011 16:26

i love judge judy! ...and repeats of poirot/columbo/marple etc.

Bleats · 23/08/2011 16:38

Dr Who - and is back on the screens this Saturday. Also love the indulgence of Time Team on a Saturday!

WaitingforStork · 23/08/2011 17:05

Hi Byrnsie I remember you too, nice to see a familier face, even if it does mean we've both been unsuccessful so far. Let's just hope we can make the same connection at the end of this bus journey, must be our turn soon, keep telling myself that anyway!

minipie · 23/08/2011 19:20

Agree Cats my suggestion only works if you know roughly when the smiley is coming. Mine's been regular the last 2 months (after coming off the Pill in Feb) so I am hoping I can tell when it's coming.

If not then the SWI over the last couple of days will have been wasted just for fun.

TBH we can't be arsed a lot of the time either! Sleep is sometimes just more attractive...!

MyCatLikesToHideInBoxes · 23/08/2011 21:23

... or another episode of The Vampire Diaries Wink

Byrnsie30 · 24/08/2011 10:26

Hey all,

My guilty pleasures are Brothers and Sisters and The Good Wife (and also Extreme makeover home Edition - Oh the shame Blush )

In answer to 'How often to swi?' Since starting OPK's I have always ovulated when expected - around CD 16-18. This month I decided to really go for it (after being gutted at arrival of AF last time) We started to swi every 2-3 days from CD 8, cranking it up a knotch to every day from CD 15-18. In the past I have stopped being bothered after that, but this month I may persuade DH to go back to every 2-3 days during 2ww - you never know your luck, right?!

On the otherhand, I was watching The Sex Education Show (another guilty pleasure!) and the doctor said that if a woman has had previous early mc's then she should seek advice of doc before having sex in early PG (but surely that doeesn't count during 2ww before you know if you're PG - any thoughts?)

Thanks for the distracting question cats and the biscuit medal Grin. Think we will need lots of distractions in the next 2 weeks!!

Spuddybean · 24/08/2011 12:49

I also love brothers & Sisters! it's so ridiculous. Haven't caught much of the last series (i dip in and out - you pick up what's happened in about 10 seconds by the terrible script that backdates everything).

As for how often we've swi - apart from the blip on thurs, we've been pretty much every other day, then everyday fri/sat/sun - cos the piss stick told us to!

Last night, as we are past the ovulation time, we threw caution to the wind and did it with me on top. As i don't allow that position when it's serious swi - only missionary and from behind (TMI alert) cos i dont think enough sperm gets up far enough.

Does anyone else have a swi position?

DP is away tomo - sat and then Mon-sat. So he will miss the horrendous wait we enevitably have :(

Spuddybean · 24/08/2011 12:53

also what is 2ww? (is it 2 weeks wait - as in the excrutiating time after ovulation till AF?)

minipie · 24/08/2011 12:57

yup got it in one spuddy!

Byrnsie30 · 24/08/2011 16:01

Aaahh! I just typed a message and MN had logged me out - got to start again!

Mini I just started using preseed this time round and I like it. Apparently normal lubes (even those which don't have spermicide) can damage the little swimmers and inhibit their performace! I admit to having only used the applicator once though as it's kind of a mood killer unless you remeber to insert before getting down to it!

spuddy I agree with you about positions, although I will vary it even during fertile window, as long as we finish in one of the optimum conception positions Wink

Going to give myself and DH a break tonight. I reckon 7 times in 11 days (including 4 consecutive days) is more than enough!! x

Spuddybean · 24/08/2011 16:22

byrnsie No rest for DP's - last chance before he goes away.

It's weird about changing positions but i only realised the other day that we never do (all other dp's i have tho). We tend to start with one and stick with it.

Are we really unsexy and boring? We do other stuff first!

Right mission for tonight; 4 positions all at once! Does anyone have any good suggestions? Wink

Spuddybean · 24/08/2011 16:24

i meant no rest for DP NOT PLURAL! that would probably make me less boring and actually a swinger!

minipie · 24/08/2011 17:25

Grin at DPs - that would up your chances of getting pg though Wink

oh and we only change positions part way through if the one we start with isn't working for one or both of us! if it ain't broke why fix it... I don't insist on sticking to the "optimum TTC" positions though...

Byrnsie that logging out thing keeps happening to me! it is driving. me. mad.

MyCatLikesToHideInBoxes · 24/08/2011 18:27

DP's - had me chuckling out loud spuddy!

Have just realised that although our swi/oi frequency is pretty low, we do usually go through at least two positions each time - sometimes as many as five!

When swi-ing though, I do always try to make sure the finishing position has me on my back so that (TMI alert) I can manouvre into the upside down cycling position without losing too many little swimmers Grin

Spuddybean · 24/08/2011 19:45

FIVE! i don't think i know five!! is that just 1 and 2 with your eyes shut?!

MyCatLikesToHideInBoxes · 24/08/2011 22:16

Tee hee Spuddy, I used to get More magazine in my youth - position of the fortnight taught me everything I know...

Of course POTF over the years covered a lot more than 5 positions but in my state of advancing years the rest have either been lost in the depths of my foggy brain or require a level of flexibility that I simply no longer possess (or, even worse, show off far too many wobbly bits!)
