Day 21 bloods

Hi

I went for my day 21 bloods this morning. Im having my full blood count, thyroid function, liver function, electrolytes and progesterone checked. Except I was given the form 3 weeks ago and it wasn't until I was asked that I remembered I was meant to fast and I'd had a bowl of cereal and glass of juice an hour before!

I'm a nurse and we don't ask our patients to fast before lfts, the information on this seems to be mixed, and to be honest I'm not concerned about them anyway because I had them checked last year and they were fine, and I don't think food will affect the other tests but what about the progesterone? I'm assumed it would have no effect but looking online now different sites say different things. What were those of you that have had them done advised re. fasting?

Tia x

I wasn't asked to fast before either my progesterone or full blood count/thyroid/liver function tests. The only commone fertility-related test I ahve heard people being asked to fast for is the glucose tolerance one.

what eurochick said x

Thanks ladies. I think she ticked the glucose box (but it wasn't a glucose tolerance test) but if that's on the high side I'll know why! It's really only the thyroid function and progesterone I'm concerned with because I've had all the others done during the last year and they've all been fine. I've never had thyroid or prog bloods though. I'm not expecting anything unusual though given that I have a textbook cycle and chart.

Thanks again

I wasn't asked to fast for my CD21 progesterone test x

Now I've got my results I've got more questions for you knowledgable ladies! My progesterone was 42.8 which I'm told is normal Smile. Given that, my obvious temp rise post day 14 and that I generally get a Smile on my opks I'm assuming that I ovulate. My gp didn't mention having day 2/3 bloods at all (but she was going down a flow chart in a book so I'm thinking it's not her specialist area Hmm) so is it worth going back and asking for them or should I assume my fsh and lh are ok?

Thanks again!

Go and ask for Day 2/3 test. You should not assume these are ok, although from what you have said, it sounds normal. 42.8 for progesterone is good Smile
