Anyone else considering or has done IVF for no 2 after natural conception for no 1?

Hi, not sure if the title is clear - I was trying to say a long sentence in a few words!

Basically we have DS who was conceived 'naturally' (and reasonably quickly) but have been ttc no 2 for 19 mths so are thinking about IVF.

I just wondered if anyone else had done this or was considering the same?

We have had tests at a fertility clinic and are probably at the stage of deciding if we are going to go for it (we'll see - we have our follow up at the clinic this afternoon).

I was 100% for the idea but am having a panic. A friend talked me through the process yesterday and I'm a bit freaked out by what's involved. But then again I would go through anything for my child - be that my DS or any potential as yet unconceived one!

I am also a but worried about the money - I'm not entirely sure how much it'll cost. I appreciate that we're in a very fortunate position to even be considering being able to pay for it. We have some money but it is a LOT of money to be gambling for a less than 40% chance (I assume) of success.

Anyway, I just wondered if anyone else was in the same position?

Hi biscuitsandtea, until recently I was very much in your position, and my biggest recommendation would be to fnd out exactly why you're not conceiving and don't accept unexplained, we wasted thousands on IUI and one try at IVF, only to find all I needed was a small operation and I was able to conceive again naturally.

The actual process of IvF isn't as bad as I thought it might be, but will another child to consider you will need a lot of help for when you have to go for scans and bloods, ET and EC, and some rest time. I was very fortunate that my mum and sister helped with my little boy.

Thanks Helenlouisey - that sounds like wise words. Will see what they say re 'unexplained' this afternoon. Can I be terribly nosey and ask what your reason was in the end? Presumably not something picked up by the standard tests?

Waiting for appt now - feel sick with nerves which is something of an over reaction isn't it!
