Reflexology helping infertility

Just wondered if anyone has any experience on reflexology when trying to conceive. I'm considering a course after 2 plus years of TTC no 2.

I'm currently on month 3 of Clomid but following a misscarriage in March don't seem to be ovulating as before. Might reflexology help?.

It won't hurt. It might help. If you have the funds, do it. If you are strapped for cash, try acupuncture instead. If you have enough, do both.

Good luck - I am in the same boat as you without Clomid and a few months younger. But I am also a reflexologist, and have had success with a couple of clients; however, can't do it on myself and although I love reflexology I do think there are more direct options.

I would also suggest that you make sure you are taking a decent multivit/mineral and drinking plenty of water; and removing as many unnecessary toxins from your life as you can. It all may help and none of it will hurt.

I am having acupuncture. It has definitely done something (lighter, less clotty periods and a slightly longer luteal phase) but I haven't got a BFP yet. I am on my third cycle of having it. I was rather sceptical when I first went, but I could see noticeable changes in my cycle from the first one, so I am carrying on with it for the time being.

I really want to try reflexology but just looked at some prices in London £75 per session!

Can you do it on your self? Is that impossible? i've seen some guides for where to massage etc.

That's a lot - 2 years ago I was charging £35 for an hour's reflexology session.

I am a trained reflexologist and I cannot effectively do it on myself. Sure, I can press the right bits - but it doesn't have the same effect as when someone else does it for me.

Shame you can't do it on yourself, will it have any effect, I have just been massaging the fallopian tube points at work . I can feel those crystals / grit like thing!!! Panic.

well, again it's not going to do you any harm to do it yourself, so you carry on!
But do shop around - I'm sure they can't all be that expensive around you, can they?

I will continue to do a bit of self reflexology, but I can see how it's not the same - like when you massage your own neck, it never has the same effect.

I paid for acupuncture last year but not for fertility and it really had no effect which was annoying, but it seems to work well for a lot of people.

I'm a bit of a lurker on the 40 plus threads and I'm wondering if I've seen your name there thumbwitch?

I think I might start posting there as I guess it really helps to speak to people in the same position. And I'm having a bit of a down time at the mo after a misscarriage and 44 th bithday a few weeks ago.

lovesmountatins, no, you wouldn't have seen me there. I went on it once a couple of years ago but didn't stay; and I was also on the 'just MC and ttc again' thread for a short while but I found it too demoralising when I MC again in March. I know it's supposed to be supportive and other people find it so - but I can't deal with it. :(

Thanks for responding thumbwitch,and so sorry to hear about your miscarriages.
I had an ovarian cyst develop after my miscarriage in March and now I don't seem to be ovulating, whereas before there was always a hope for us as I was ovulating regularly. Back on clomid and feeling awful, (my poor husband!) so more waiting.

Ladies - it might also be worth having a look at work - I work in a large company in London and they have a reflexologist that comes in every other week. She charges £22 for 45 minute session because I guess she gets booked out for coming to our workplace.

Might be worth just having a look at workplace noticeboards etc (if they do that kind of thing).

I'm due to have my first reflex session with her next week after a recent PCOS diagnosis. I figured it can't hurt, so might as well give it a go - even if it just relaxes me then it's worth a shot.

I know that acupuncture is supposed to be quite good for "imbalance problems like PCOS (as opposed to structural issues, e.g. blocked tubes). It certainly seems to be doing something for me.

FWIW i'm also investigating accupuncture. I've been recommended to Gerald Kite but the prices scare me rather.... If it's going to work then it'd be worth it....

I am not at all squeamish with needles (I used to be a blood donor before my iron levels plummeted) so I find it fine. There is mild discomfort for a few seconds when some needles are put in. Others I don't really feel. It is noticeably more painful just before your period (like waxing, etc).

I go to a specialist acupuncture fertility clinic on Harley St. It is £70 for the inital consultation and £50 thereafter. They generally like to see you once a week for the first cycle and then twice a week. So it's not cheap. But I will stick with it for a while (probably 6 cycles - currently on my 3rd acupunctured cycle). That will cost around £700. If it works, that's a lot cheaper than most fertility treatment and a lot less invasive. If it doesn't, I will move on to other things.
