not ovulating :(

hi all, currently not ovulating according to 21 and 3 day blood tests! i have a dd so i must have ovulated at some point, gp not keen to do much other then repet the tests again as i have a child.

any experiences of this and help on NHS?

Have you done any charting/opks? I thought I wasn't from my blood tests but it seems I ovulate really early (like cd8 this cycle). You might be ovulating early or even late.
Your GP should check again at least twice as every woman has some anovulatory cycles each year. If you aren't ovulating regularly you should be referred for an endocrinology appt to see a specialist but not sure how much you get on NHS since you already have DD. I'd suggest you start charting to see if you just don't fit the 'normal' pattern. Day 21 test is a stupid name cos it assumes you ovulate on cd14. Should be '7dpo test'. If you chart and see a peak you can arrange the test for 7 days after the peak instead. There endeth the lesson! Good luck ttc.

this is my 3rd day 21 other two at 20 and 19 dpo. we have been tcc 2nd for 2.5 years, obsessivly for the last one! i have been using opks for the last 7 month not one posivite :(. af comes every month between 24-29 days. just feels like hitting a dead end, i now know why i dont get my bfp but there isint anything i can do about it. i have contacted a few private fertility clinics, they recomend iui which is rarther expensive

Has your GP suggested it's pcos? Sorry to hear it's been so tough for you. We're on.cycle 18 ttc#1. I'm sure IUI costs a sodding fortune but surely you need to try and stimulate egg release even.for that which is where clomid and metformin comes in? Have you been.offered that? Or is there reasons you can't?

I have been ttc #2 for 21 months now and was prescribed clomid 4 months ago they can help you if you already have one

i mentioned clomid after the first confirmation of not ovulating via the 21 day bloosa, gp said we do not pescribe clomin even for a private perscription! i guess this is because clomid should be used with folical tracking scans! clomid is where i though we should be going next, it is cheep and from what others say works! unfortunatly my GP will not pescribe this although when i said i have seen it advertised on the net she was happy to give me information regarding quanty to take!!!!! after googlin my results i belived that pcos was likely due to my LH levels being higher then my FHs levels???

I have pcos i cant believe they will not give you clomid have you had scans to check your overies?

Yes it def sounds like pcos based on your test results and irregular cycles. Maybe you should seek a diff GP opinion, yours sounds like an arse rather unsympathetic?!

havent had any scans, just had blood tests but tbh bothe me and the gp knew the outcome before the results! i guess the next step would be a referal but i have been basicly told not to hold my breath! its just so annoying because if something so simple as clomid can help its very inexpensive infact less expensive then the bloods! i have has surgery to remove my apendix in my teens i do wonder if this has affected one of my overies as at the time they felt it was an overy problem and operated much higher then was needed for an apendix

funy enough she has been the best at my practice for me in the past, fertility isint her area as she is a retained GP, but in the past for my lilly one she has been a star and always to go out of her way. i know that all pct have pulled in with the new budgets and after a little research i asked her about clomid and she said not even on a private perscription. checking out teh net there seam to be mixed messages regarding clomid some gp pescribe it without tracking and other say its needed.

just seams unfair that they can tell your your not ovulating but not do anything to help!

as for pcos i dont really have any of the major symptoms, is ther a test to confirm?

I nevr had any symptoms apart from the not falling pregnant i am going to be asked to be refered afater my blood test results come back after yesterday day 21.
I know they only cost about £15 a month as remember seeing it on one of my boxes.
If its any consulation i haven't fallen yet and taken 4 months now only aloud another 2 months

Ellie sorry to read your story.

FWIW GP's can't prescribe Clomid, it has to be prescribed by a consultant/gynae. My GP was only able to give it to me with a prescription signed by my Consultant!

Irrespective of DD1 your GP should refer you on for additional tests to see why you're not o/v, even if you wouldn't qualify for any subsequent fertility treatment on the NHS. The outcome of these tests might help you decide the next steps to take.

It does sound odd that your cycles are fairly regular and you're not o/v - have you had your FSH/LH tested during the early days of your cycle? A high LH level can trick OPK's.

Regarding PCOS, it sounds like you know what the symptoms are, there are many different ways to diagnose; often combination of symptoms, lack of o/v and ultrasound scan of ovaries etc. It's possible to have polycystic ovaries and not have the syndrome.

Perhaps worth seeing if you can revisit your GP to seek referral to a gynae for your lack of o/v and take it from there.

my FHS was 3.4 and LH 7.1 on my 21 day, i diddnt bother getting the results for the rest as they confused the hell out of me! just waited for GP to confirm that wasnt ovulating!

how long will a refural take? i have been looking into the NICE guidlines but unfortunatly that seams just what they are guidelines :(

I got an NHS referral in about 2 months. I was put on Clomid after a number of exploratory tests which took a further 2/3 months(was TTC #1). After 3 months of non-monitored cycles (despite my questioning this and quoting NICE to them) I went back to my GP and asked to be referred privately, I had an appt the next week and my final 3 cycles were monitored, and it cost us £60 for the appt.

My fhs levels were low and after 1st month on clomid went up to 96. My doctor is a gynae might be worth while asking to see one

was this recently? my gp dosnt want me to hold my breath on clomid because they wont offer non-monitored cycles! and its the monitoring that is costly! and with my dd im low on their list i have also enquired privatly and the initial conslutation is between £160-200 which isint he end of the world its the treatment after ! most of the ones i have contacted are pushing iui aswell and i dont see why when surley clomid is the first step woth no ovulation

Fsh and lh results should be 1:1 but they really should be checked on.cd3 (my GP made that mistake too and I marched back in and demanded they check on cd3!). Progesterone should be done around cd21 (give or take ovulation day).

ive had them checked at cd3 but diddnt request the results due to the 21dpo results causing rarther a large amount of stress via google :) the GP did however confirm no ovulation by compairing the two, i did quiz her up about being pre menopause but she said very unlikley, i did tell her that i had thought pcos as i had read somewhere that if your LH was higher then your FSH this could indicate pcos

This sounds like me - I have v low FSH at 4 (I'm 42 1/2) so that's bloody good and means I'm nowhere near menopausal. But my day 21 progesterone came back at 21 this month ie not ovulating and last time I had it done was 5 years ago and it was the same.

I have ovulation signs ie pain, EWCM etc and do have a surge when I POAS. But I do have a short luteal phase of about 10 days and shocking PMS.

I suspect I haven't ovulated really since my early 30s. I've conceived twice in 5 years although only have one DC for reasons totally unrelated to egg quality.

I think it's possible (although hopefully not for you) to have low FSH ie not be menopausal but have really poor egg quality to the extent of not really ovulating. I think Clomid might be a bit harsh if that's the case and any good eggs need coaxing out. I've had IVF and they got no eggs out of me despite the low FSH and a really good antral follicle count.

The Dr is sending me back for another day21 progesterone test next month.

im just 30 but its turned me to depression actually knowing that i dont ovulate, i already knew deep down although the confirmation has really upset me! i dont get any ovulation symptions, no EWCM although i take epo and i also feel that my LP is short so tave 50mg vitamin B6 although all this seams pointless if i dont actually ovulate!

i get rarther bad PSM which i remedy with a few body pump classes and the pain has started to worsen each month :(

Ellie, see a different GP. If it's PCOS it can be sorted and if it's general anovulation like me (which I don't think is that common but who knows....) then at your age you can also give that a helping hand.

We conceived my DD with the help of Gonal F which stimulates ovulation but is much gentler on your ovaries than Clomid. I think Clomid is quite a harsh drug and if you do have poor egg quality it won't really help. We had to go the private route - I had IUIs which cost about £800. I think the actual IUI was a waste of time but the drug worked for me and also it meant the cycle was monitored. I had monitored cycles without any drugs and it looked as though I was ovulating. But clearly I wasn't.

I don't think I'm helping much really, but I'm trying to say my scenario is worst case but I still conceived twice. And am desperately hoping I will again although it's now my age which is against me more than anything. If you're only 30 don't panic but do try to work out what is happening.

is general anovulation that common?? i have been googling the hell out of it and not finding much! i just dont see pcos as being the cause, im not overweight unless you count stress eating ;) no excess hair, acne, perods every month although range from 24-29 averaging 26. i did have treatment for CIN3 7 years ago and the GP recently diagonosed entropian! is this more like to be anovulation? and if so what does that mean?
