Self-medicating with baby aspirin

Has anyone tried this themselves (or on the advice of a doctor)?

I am a bit nervous about self-medicating when TTC but have read good things about baby aspirin helping embryos stick. Has anyone tried it?

I take baby aspirin from about 5 months pg when pg (only happened once so far but working hard on no 2). This is to minimize chance of clots in placenta.Haemotogolist thinks it's silly as am already on injections of heparins from beginning of pg but obstetricians are very insistent and they win.

Have never heard of aspirin when ttc. I always worrying that being on anticoagulants (warfarin) when ttc stops embryos sticking so wouldn't have thought aspirin would help. My fear is a bit irrational but warfarin makes periods heavier but with no clots so I always imagine a very liquidy rubbish lining (stupid I know).

Hi, I am on this while ttc. I lost my 1st baby to pre eclampsia at 24 weeks and since also had a mc. I have been advised by a consultant obstetrician that baby aspirin does no harm and may help. mc clinics have had good results using it. My understanding is oposite tio the above as Aspirin can improve blood flow to the uterus and therefore help implantaion. however if i hadn't had the problems i have i am not sure i would take it. in my case i feel like i have nothing to lose. Maybe talk to your GP about it? Is there a reason why you feel you need it?

Where do people get these GPs from who actually talk about stuff rather than just writing a prescription/blood test form/referral? The average appointment time at my surgery seems to be 2.5 minutes.

Anyway, I will discuss it with a gynae when I get there. I was just pondering this because I repeatedly get 2ww symptoms (including implantation bleeding) but no pregnancy. I instinctively feel the problem is with implantation, as does my acupuncturist (she thinks the problem could be related to blood clotting factors). I am reluctant to self-medicate but impatient (I'm not likely to get to a gynae for another couple of cycles).

My consultant had the theory that if it isn't going to do you any harm, crack on. My clotting factors etc were all tested and fine, but with so many mc's he recommended taking them as there was no risk attached.
So everyday I pop my baby aspirin and my folic acid. Just in case.

If you can take it when pg on doc's orders then I'm pretty sure you'd be fine ttc. If no risks then why not if you think it might help? I'd probably go for it in your place tbh.

Please check with your doctor before taking any medication, including aspirin as it is a powerful anticlotting agent that does not have 'no side effects'. For many people the benefits outway the risk, but there are some people who should not take it at all (depending on their clotting profile).

I am a platelet biologist (aspirin affects the platelets ability to clot) and I wouldn't take it for more than a few days without doctors advice. Once you have that, all well and good.

I am taking what used to be 'baby' aspirin at the advice of a consultant after mc and will soon be ttc and the advice is to carry on taking it when ttc and probably into pregnancy. I am hoping they wouldn't recommend it if it was going to do any harm. But each case is different I am guessing.

I take a baby aspirin everyday, my doctor thinks it should be put in the water for everyone it's that good! I have APS and was told by doctor that it's the aspirin that's stops the MC and clexane injections (I need when pregnant from 6 weeks so first 6 weeks aspirin is working on it's own) that stops blood clots forming in my body and placenta pregnancy ...........just got myself a new 'fresh' bottle of them now just need to get pregnant! Wink

ooo hey cheeky curls I have APS too. Never meet fellow sufferers so lovely to meet you. I take warfarin in my normal life and then move to injections when I get a BFP. Just need the BFP for number 2 now!!

I was told only to take it after a bfp, as it can prevent implantation. Not sure how accurate that is.

That's what worrying me about warfarin hairylights! Although as am under a consultant am prob being a bit arrogant as I guess she knows!

i'm not taking anything other then the aspirin but undergoing some tests to see if i need anything else

i'm also waiting for BFP for number 2 bloody well taking its time!!! ha

Interesting - I have just been advised by a consultant gynae to start taking 100mg aspirin daily if I get pg. I have Factor V Leiden thrombophilia, so will need to start with the clexane at some point as well. I was a bit Hmm at the idea of taking aspirin cos I thought you weren't supposed to when pg but she said it was ok, so I suppose she must know?

I'm not taking it beforehand though - pretty sure she didn't suggest that - but from what you're saying here, it sounds as though it might help? Just had MC #2 and trying v. hard to have another baby so anything that helps!

Am a bi worried now, about whether it will interfere with conception, but I have just started under the care of Mr Shehata and although I don't have results for all testing yet I have high thyroid antibodies and the midwife told me to start taking 75mcg now. I have to trust they don't think it will interfere with tic otherwise wouldn't have recommended it! Am also taking extra vit d along with pregnancy vits.

I'm taking 75mp aspirin and TTC, I also worry that it can prevent implantation but haemotologist has recommended I take it (she said she checked latest OB advice).

I also have APS and am currently on heparin, had 2 MC since Jan and doc thinks it's too much hassle to be switching between warfarin as we are just going to keep trying for a BFP

My grandma has taken a baby asprin every day with her morning cup of tea for as long as I can remember, In fact it may actually be a full sized one! She is 90 and doesn't look like she is going anywhere for a good 10 years yet!

My only worry about taking it in PG is when do you stop? would it hinder the blood clotting during birth and be dangerous? I am pg post MC and took it for the first week, then scared myself. I'm 9 weeks now and considering starting taking it again.

Wormshuffler - I was induced due to APS syndrome and stopped aspirin the evening before the induction iirc.
