I'm 43, (first) bab 10 months old now and still breastfeeding - I've not had a period since conceived - can I still be ovulating?

Same here, baby 9 months old, BF mornings and evenings. No periods.

Yes, possibly you ovulated any time in the last two weeks or so. You'd know because your period would start soon. So (if that's what your question is about) yes you can potentially become pregnant right now.

No, as far as I know if you had ovulated more than a good two weeks ago, or several times even, you would know because you would have your period by now. Unless you were pregnant again.

There are other reasons apart from BF that could cause the non-ovulation. You could be suffering from some PCOS. That is, your follicles try to ovulate but fail and turn into cysts instead. Ergo no period because no unfertilised follicles in your uterus.

I'm asking as musing on my chances of conception - what I suppose I'm asking is is ovulation always followed by a period - can you be ovulating but yet ammenorrhagic (if that's how it's spelt)

I'm not sure, but would be surprised. I think if you ovulate you either get pregnant or get your period, roughly 14 days later.
And yet, not having your first post-partum period yet, I think I heard once that it makes you extra fertile - that first time you do ovulate there is a really good chance that you'll conceive, with higher chances than normal to get multiples. So though it is a stab in the dark (erm...) concerning timing, it can't hurt to do some SWI.
And I think there are methods to encourage ovulation to start again whilst keeping on BF. But don't really know about them.
I wonder if you could chart your bbt - I mean, if you would get any meaningful results. Sorry I can't be of further help! I seem to have more questions than answers.
