Hoping to continue the trend of the lucky thread....

OP posts:
MissTinaTeaspoon · 15/07/2011 10:12

Okay...dh has has a good volume and HUGE count (actually so huge I think I may have misheard!), good motility, low-ok normal forms (depending on where you compare the results to) but he was also told there was 'clumping' without any value or measurement (last time there was a 'moderate' written after clumping) so we're not sure how to take that, the GP had no idea either...she's going to try to speak to the lab but I don't think they work on Fridays. Confused

DeterminedToGetDiffedDachs · 15/07/2011 11:34

Thanks for all the comments guys - I know it is v silly to think like that, but sometimes it's hard to let it go. Will try to be cheerier not at least I know I'm ovulating Grin

battery Glad HCG is going down. Good luck with Dr S. When are yuo seeing him? Well done on the house stuff. Am v impressed :)

yrmotb Enjoy your weekend, hope it doesn't lash it down too badly :)

tina Glad you've got the results, hope you find out more next week. My DH has huge count and fab motility but low normal forms. Funny looking but fast at swimming!

I suspect I may on on MN quite a lot over the weekend as I will be obsessing about DH being away while i need him here. I think he's suffering from performance anxiety as this morning didn't go to plan, so he's coming home before he goes away for the weekend as I wasn't going to let him go without making sure we had an opportunity before he buggers off! Wink

Would also really like him to be here this weekend so we can go see the Harry Potter film...

MissTinaTeaspoon · 15/07/2011 16:52

No word back from GP but I've had a look at the printout which was impossible to interpret and obviously computer rather than person generated, and then not checked by the lab before sending it out...and it seems as if it's all backwards and theres no clumping! So no need to worry Smile. And the vit C obviously works! Smile

DeterminedToGetDiffedDachs · 15/07/2011 16:59

Dh's trip home was successful, so I guess I'm now officially on the 2ww. Grin

MissTinaTeaspoon · 15/07/2011 17:25

Grin dachs

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 16/07/2011 11:43

dachs Grin for getting to the 2ww! Re the mmc-mistake fears; I can really relate to that (even though I saw the screen and I know there was no hb, nothing!). But really I know there was no mistake, and we all know how cautious the nhs are at making people come back in a week or a fortnight for a re-scan if there's any chance dates could be out...I think it's natural to wonder and worry but honestly, don't really think it's a possibility.

Tina yay for dh's swimmers Grin

battery wow - well done on the house buying/selling, how exciting!! Are you moving far?

yrmotb hope you have a good weekend and the weather holds for you (is miserable here!)

mummya hurray for getting another appt, definitely steer well clear of dr hysterectomy and fx for a more laid-back approach with the new dr!

To whoever asked ( battery ?) no, we didn't find out the gender - went for the surprise with both dcs and wanted to same this time, especially as it's our last and I don't care in the slightest what flavour we get as long as it's healthy! Smile. Have to say though that during the scan was just focused on whether everything was ok that neither dh nor I even thought to mention the sex - luckily our pct has a policy of not mentioning unless you ask so no clues given Smile

Don't know if anyone can help with this but dcs have started to ask a few questions about the mechanics of it all (pg, how does baby get out etc). I have swerved them so far because I don't quite know where to start Blush but really don't want to become one of those mums who can't discuss basic biology Blush Blush. Anyone know of any decent age-appropriate books for them that might help me? (ds is nearly 8, dd nearly 5)

I'll have an ask on grads as well but failing that might have to start a new thread..,

Youremindmeofthebean · 16/07/2011 12:20

Woohoo for 2ww dachs!

izz not sure about the book, but you reminded me that in the great wider world of MN there is a poster Izzywhizzyletsgetbusy. Every time I see her posts I have an urge to correct the spelling... If you find out about the book, let me know, I suppose I will have to have this chat with ds (nearly 5) at some point, and I distinctly get the impression it won't be his father doing it[hhmm][hgrin]

Off to see Bridesmaids tonight, can't wait! Waves to all.

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 16/07/2011 12:54

yrmotb I know, I keep seeing her posts and thinking "I didn't write that!" Grin. Hmm maybe I should name change at some point but I really cba...

MummyAbroad · 16/07/2011 13:38

morning all!

Izzy sorry cant help with the book, i bought a rather useless one in spanish for DS who is 3, he was read bored and disinterested by the book, but still asks. I will never forget being very pregnant with him when my then three year old neice asked in a rather worried voice "but, MA, how will the baby get OUT?" and all I could think was - thats my thoughts exactly!!! I hope MN can help.

Tina glad its good news on the swimmers Smile

MissTinaTeaspoon · 16/07/2011 13:56

Hello

izzy there's a funny book called Mummy Laid an Egg that's worth a look.

Any symptoms yet dachs? Grin I got my Smile this morning so shall be joining you soon! I've told dh no party till he's performed his duties Grin

Waves to yrmotb and mummya and everyone else x

DeterminedToGetDiffedDachs · 16/07/2011 15:29

no symptoms yet tina - but then at 1dpo I wouldn't necessarily expect any! Wink Maybe tomorrow... DH is making a special trip home from his weekend away (3 hour round trip) to give us another opportunity later. Grin Not that I piled on the guilt about him not being here at the crucial time or anything...

batteryhen · 16/07/2011 22:30

just popping in to say hmmmmmmm.

Slight concern that I too may be on the 2ww....... had lots of ov pain yesterday and lots of cm. Took my temp today and very post OV. Trouble being, I thought we were safe as didn't think I would OV so soon from HCg dropping- so we have DTD on a couple of occasions recently Blush Obviously this would not be bad normally but we have booked to see MR S and you can't be pregnant when you see him

Freezingmyarseoff · 17/07/2011 00:11

Oh, lots of people on 2ww GrinGrin

battery what will be will be. Easy for me to say but there is nothing you can do now except, eh, take precaution for any more activitiesWink. And you are in a bit of a win-win situation.
Great news on the houses too BTW

dachs your DH sounds lovely, good work on the persuasion techniquesGrin Good luck.

izzy I never twigged there were more than 1 of you, I just thought you were very busy on MN. Lucky I'm so dense as I nearly gave the other Izzy grief for posting too much when you were meant to be on holiday a few weeks agoBlush

MummyA I have also heard about the Mummy I Laid an Egg book, but have never seen it. Let me know if you find a good one.

Some news from here, all went well with the consultant appt on thurs, almost welled up when I heard the heartbeat. I'll also get extra scans at 28, 32, & 36 weeks as DD was small so I just view that as a bonus.
However on fri I got a call from the screening midwife to say we are high risk for downs. Bit frustrated as we thought we were in the clear by weds. Anyway we are 1 in 88, so not massively high to me but obviously we fall in the high risk category. We're not really sure what to do. Termination is not a consideration for us, so now we're not even sure if we want an ammnio. We've got as far as deciding that we want to go in to speak to the midwife in person to get more information. I feel strangely calm about it at the moment, not sure if I'm just burying my head in the sand or just being rather naive.
Anyway we have friends staying for the weekend (hence the late post) so at least I'll be distracted for a while longer.

Waves YRMOTB, Tina, mouse, AandR and all, sorry not to name check.

Ladybee · 17/07/2011 08:12

Hi all - my weekly check-in seems to have rolled around again Smile
I'm pretty sure I'm on the 2ww now too, not great going in our house, but I say that every month and I know I will get pg eventually, even if it's not quick!

Dachs that's really crap timing, going back when you should be coming off work, it'll be tough - although I guess being there might help the days to pass more quickly. Hoorah for the +OPK though, it would be fantastic to get the miracle BFP without having to go through all the IVF palaver again, I so wish that could happen for you - and who knows? it happens to some women surely. But it's worth acknowledging in your mind the likelihood that it won't happen and see whether there's any practical steps you can take to help you cope with re-starting IVF. It's bound to be emotionally tough. Would counselling help do you think?

Zam nice to see you again, and good to get some diagnosis and a plan worked up. There are a few of us all in the same boat then, so we just need to get that first step worked out. I'm 37 too. I'm vaguely thinking about using some of my progesterone stash in the 2ww this cycle just to see whether it helps anything stick. Carrying the clexane in luggage is what I did as well - it's really bulky, as each syringe has a plastic 'holder' around it and they're packed in plastic packs - take up lots of room but are very light!

hi yrmotb I saw a pilates studio quite close to me this afternoon and am thinking of giving it a go - I have to start doing some form of movement (can't bring myself to use the word exercise yet Smile). Is it hard when you start up?

tina if you use fertilityfriend you can put a link up to your chart if you want help with anything...I spotted a pregnancy the other day, felt so chuffed Grin

Izzy it sounds like things are going well with you, thank goodness. Freezing if you don't have the amnio, will they be able to give you a better indication of the risk from the next scan(s)?

digi I saw on the pred thread that you were going onto ovulation-stim drug, I hope that works and am sorry metformin didn't do the trick for you. Was it on Dr S that you had the scan?

MummyA I was astounded when I read your consultant was taking such an aggressive stance, I do hope the new consultant will be more reasonable about the management of your situation.

battery goodness! buying and selling a house so quickly! you guys don't muck about, do you? Well, at least that should give you something to concentrate on while you take the break from TTC. ooh. Or maybe not Confused. Hmm. 3 weeks from ERPC. hmmm.. When did you get your BFN?

We got the car, I got it on Monday and have been very happily driving it about and getting used to it - it's a 5-door Toyota RAV4, so a bit higher than a car - it's quite old but for its age the miles are fairly low and we took it for a longer drive yesterday and I was v happy although it's got a squeaky windscreen wiper . We're still waiting for our belongings to be delivered but are getting closer, had word that it might be next week! I'm not sure where I'm going to put everything but I guess I can always donate or sell.
The cold is clearing, finally, although DS's is still lingering. OH NO! and he seems to have dropped his nap! At 3.4 he has finally stopped having a sleep in the afternoon, even in the car he seems able to resist. I miss his naps SadSmile. I'm working on still having 'quiet time' though.
I wonder how knitter and jolls are? thinking of you both if you're lurking. And waves to everyone else I've missed.

Oh I keep meaning to tell you ladies, I was listening to the radio here one morning a few days ago and heard an interview with some women who have put out a book called 'Baby Gone' - stories of women who have experienced miscarriage, infertility and still birth. I've ordered a copy from our library, but apparently they've had quite a lot of funding to supply free copies to GPs, midwives, counsellors etc to help healthcare workers read the experiences of women so that they might have a better understanding of what it's like from our perspective. There's a link here.

DeterminedToGetDiffedDachs · 17/07/2011 09:41

bee I am resigned to the fact that I'll need to do IVF again, but I'm still hoping that there is a teeny tiny possibility I won't need to spend all that money and do all those injections again. The first pg we had last year, before we started the IVF, was natural so there is a small possibility it could happen again without IVF. I'm not really holding out much hope that it will work, but I'm not giving up hope! Grin

yay for the car. I really wanted a RAV4 so I approve (although I ended up getting a Mercedes B Class and now I love that)

battery Not sure whether to say FX for BFP or FX for no BFP, but I hope it works out for you either way! :)

TomboyWife · 17/07/2011 11:41

Freezing so sorry to hear about the extra stress of the Down's test. Sad I suppose the silver lining is that 1 in 88 isn't that high. I hope talking to the midwife sheds some light and you come up with a plan that you're happy with.

(We didn't get as far as the nuchal scan, but I tried to think what I'd do if I got told I was high risk, and I just didn't know. Such a tough decision.)

Izzy when I was a kid a lot of us had a book called Where Do Babies Come From? I've just tried to find it on Amazon and discovered there are at least 10 books of that name, so this may not be a lot of help. The one I'm thinking of would have probably been written in the 60s or early 70s.

bee hooray for the new-to-you car! I completely sympathise about discovering little niggly problems with secondhand cars. We've had a succession of old VW camper vans and I'm way too familiar with that "oh crap" moment when you discover something not quite right.

Well, the WTF cycle is really getting on my tits this week. Did anyone else feel incredibly hormonal toward the end of it? It's a little over 5 weeks since the mc and my emotional state has been really precarious for the past week or two. I was in buckets of tears earlier this morning for no obvious reason. I'm not sure how much of this is grief about the mc and how much is biology. Either way, I'd like to stop feeling like this please. Sad

MissTinaTeaspoon · 17/07/2011 14:34

battery think of it this way, a bfn is good news but so will a bfp be! Smile. Would you have to cancel the appointment altogether if you got a bfp? It seems a bit harsh, obviously anyone suffering from recurrent mc's would be terrified and most in need of speaking to an expert Angry

Yay for the car ladybee! I'm joining you and dachs on the 2ww mentalling!

freezing my friend's triple test (no nuchal scans here) came back as 1:20. She was really scared and after speaking to one of our consultants who specialises in fetal medicine had the amnio. The consultant basically advised her to ask her clinic what the risk of mc following an amnio there (it varies from clinic to clinic, hers had a risk of 1:100) and if that figure was higher than the risk of downs then to have the amnio. She did and everything was fine, her baby is now 5 months old Smile. Get all the advice you can and do what is best for you.

MissTinaTeaspoon · 17/07/2011 14:37

Sorry pressed post too soon!

tomboy I'd love a camper, we've discussed it but we're put off by the maintenance costs. How lovely though to just be able to escape in it!

Waves to all x

MummyAbroad · 17/07/2011 15:22

freezing the downs worry is so awful, and very cruel coming just when you most want to believe you are "in the clear" so to speak. If its any consolation, I had a 1:40 risk for DS and had amnio (all turned out fine, obviously) However my risk was only calculated on bloods because I was too far gone (15 weeks) for an accurate nuchal scan as well. Do you know what has been used for your calculation? Every hospital seems to do a different thing, but the more tests you get (there are double, triple and quad) the more "accurate" the test is supposed to be. More info here

This time around, I have had the opposite with tests Confused, had the nuchal but no bloods so I havent got a risk number. If you do decide not to have the amnio we'll be in the same "wait and see" boat, and I will hold your hand all the way. I have to say though, the piece of mind I got from the all clear amnio with DS was worth all the stress of going through the test. These are such hard hard decision though, make sure you talk it over a lot with DH and make a well informed decision.

LadyB yay, for the car! I am jealous, I have a car but no licence, working on it though...

Fingers crossed for everyone on the 2WW

TomboyWife · 17/07/2011 16:59

Tina the running costs of an old camper are indeed considerable. At the moment our camper is with a mechanic having comprehensive rust treatment and a re-spray. This is costing us the same as it cost to buy the van in the first place. (I was a bit floored by the mechanic's quote, but DH pointed out that the van would've cost us twice as much if it hadn't needed this work. Ho hum.)

VW do make brand new campers that look exactly like the 70s Mystery Machine style ones, but those are even more expensive than keeping an old one going. One day, when we're rich...

DeterminedToGetDiffedDachs · 18/07/2011 13:18

Can any of you guys help? I'm trying to find the answers to a work quiz as there is a summer party I won't be going to but my department has forwarded me a quiz where there will be a prize presented at the party. One of the sections is about corporate logos and I can identify most of them but one of them has me stumped. It's a black and white spiral in a square shape and I don't recognise it at all, so if any of you had any ideas...

MummyAbroad · 18/07/2011 16:17

can you link us a picture Dach?

MummyAbroad · 18/07/2011 16:19

or try this search tool...? www.brandsoftheworld.com

DeterminedToGetDiffedDachs · 18/07/2011 16:27

Thanks mummya but I've found it now. It's Parker Games Grin (I found a quiz online with the picture on but I couldn't find the answer so I sent it to DH and he hacked the spreadsheet. Glad he's good with Excel!)

MummyAbroad · 18/07/2011 16:41

Grin hope you win a good prize!
