is it possible to ovulate and not get a positive opk? I've had EWCM for 5 days, started testing at second day, no positive results. I really thought I'd ovulate today so have been really fed up as I convinced myself I'm not ovulating this cycle. But in the last hour I've started to get a dull ache in my right side which is a good sign for me. Could I actually be ovulating?? I hate the sticks!

Hi yes you can ov without getting a positive opk - you might have just missed your LH surge so opks are still negative but your ovaries will have been given their ov orders!

I agree with gardenpixie - the OPKs are detecting the LH surge that triggers ovulation, in some people it could be short and therefore easier to miss. I buy the cheapies and test twice a day, once about 12 and again about 6 to max the chances of getting it.

Thanks. I tested twice today at 8am and 5pm, same yesterday. Is this too early in the day? I just thought like preg tests the levels would be higher in the morning. Does anyone know how long the hormone would 'stay' in your urine for then? I don't like these sticks they're dipstick type ones and take ages to change colour!

Duckdodgers, do you find that you will get conflicting tests in the same day?
I test at about 6pm.

I used to test LOADS and never had more than a faint line. It's obviously just the way I am. I definitely wasn't missing the surge. Was definitely ovulating though.

Hi Hootie, some tests recommend not doing it in the morning. I always do because it is more practical and I never get a positive in the evening (presume too much fluid and too many wees). I don't always get a positive but as duckdodgers said it is very easy to miss, particularly if you've had a lot of fluids. Also my gynae said it is normal not to always detect it because the window for the LH surge can be short.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll get some more expensive ones where the line might be clearer for next month or not bother! Get sick of peeing on sticks. Still not convinced I actually ovulated as the ache went away and it's usually worse than that. Hey ho- 2ww begins again!

pipbin - yes I tend to find I get a stronger line at the lunchtime test and by the time I get home from work and test again the same day the line is fainter.

Although I never seem to get a line as dark as control its nearly as dark which I take as a positive compared to all the other faint lines I get when I test. I also chart and it seems to tally with my temps.
