Conception

When's the best time to get pregnant? Use our interactive ovulation calculator to work out when you're most fertile and most likely to conceive.

Quick question about whether it's worth SWI tonight, I'm confused about this charting lark?

We've been TTC since January and this is the only cycle I've noticed EWCM. Is it always noticeable if it's there? I noticed it yesterday and today which are cycle day 22 and 23 of a 31(on average but ranges from 27-34) day cycle. Is it possible to ovulate this late in my cycle and if I am does this mean I possibly have a short luteal phase and may not be able, right now, to sustain a pregnancy?!

I sort of feel I may have been reading too many conception forums and have frightened myself by reading about short luteal phases and unsustainable pregnancies. I know 5 cycles is nothing in terms of achieving a pregnancy but I'd really appreciate someone who knows more than I do about all this casting a quick glance over my ramblings and telling me what they think?

ok first: breathe!! I don't get ewcm for very long (like I only noticed once when checking this cycle). Is it possible there's anything that's caused you to ovulate late? Stress? Illness? Sounds like you're cycle is still quite variable so it would be difficult to tell exactly when your fertile phase is anyway. Did you take the pill before ttc?
Based on what you;ve said, yes, go for bd today! Doctors reckon the best way to maximise your chance of conception is to bd 3 times a week every week. Especially if you're not certain of your cycle yet.
It's easy to get swept up with the conception forums but tbh at present I wouldn't worry too much about charting and concentrate on swi!

also, have you been temping? and if so, have you seen a peak? It might be worth going on Fertility friend www.fertilityfriend.com where's there's a charting course and q&a section which might help. I'd reccommend Taking charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler (get it on amazon) which I found massively helpful when starting to chart/understand what the flip was going on with my body!

I get ewcm in the middle of my cycle for a few days before I ovulate but also right at the end a day or two before AF. I think this is quite common from what I've read so it is possible that you are at near the end of your cycle rather than being about to ovulate. But there is no harm in SWI anyway.

Thank you both for your answers.

No stress (more than usual), no illness, nothing to make anything go weird. Sounds like it could be either OV, or maybe, like mrsden gets, a rogue bit of EWCM. I have OV test kits and my BBT arrived today so I'll have a go with both of those next cycle, if this one doesn't work.

I looked at fertility friend and had the course sent to me everyday but I found it all a bit much at the time, a bit too in-depth, I might find it more useful now. I'll go back into my emails and have a look.

I think the conclusion is, so long as there's no AF, get shagging!

On that note I'll bid you goodnight Grin
