hi there

I am trying to understand when I actuall became pregnant ..

Me and the husband were intimate in may 2010 and June 12th and 13th and 14th
I was also on what I can only imagine to be my period up until the 11th

I noticed I was being nauces on the morning of the 12 th and 13 th but put this down to nerves

When I had my first dating scan I was told the baby was at the time 12 weeks and 5 days making in my eyes the end of may and the very beginning of June the dating scan was on the 27/8/10

Is there a chance the dating scan can be out by this much?

We finally had our daughter on the 13th march 2011 a week late
She wasn't to big or two small 8.5lb

So as you can imagine the confusion ....
In a nut shell when on earth did I actually fall pregnant

Thank you

That actually sounds exactly right. The "weeks are calculated from teh first day of your last period, so in fact when you conceive/are fertilised, in effect you are already deemed to be 2 weeks pg, which is not that case of course, but it's just that this is a more reliable date then when you ovulated as it is harder to tell, although it is usually day 14 of your cycle. Obviously sometimes you can ovulate late/early.

So if you ovulated on th 14th, this would have meant that technically you were 2 weeks pregnant on the 14th, and therefore the dates would go back to beginning of June IYSWIM?

You actually conceived around the 14th but pregnancy dates are backdated to your last period so when sperm meets egg as far as doctors are concerned, you are two weeks pregnant.

But my period as from about the 8th to the 11th ? Yet the scan goes even further back than this??? It was quiet procise with 12 weeks 5 days ? This is quiet a long time don't you think?

You must have ovulated early on the 14th. So this was the day you ovulated and your pregnancy was conceived so the scan that judges the size of your baby will accurately estimate the date it was conceived, then in effect it adds 2 weeks to get the gestational age - usually if you had a 28 day cycle, if you conceived on the 14th, your period would have started around the 1st. But your cycle must be shorter than normal, or you must ovulate earlier in your cycle.
