ERPC advice

Hi ladies, I'm not sure if this is the best place for this post? Sorry if there's a miscarriage forum that I've missed.

I had my 12 week scan on Weds to find that I'd had a missed miscarriage. Totally devastating as I'd had no bleeding or pain whatsoever. Had an ERPC on Friday.

They told me after the ERPC that I'd bleed for 7-10 days but I haven't bled at all since leaving the hospital on Friday (there was a small bit of bleeding after the operation and I haven't bled since). Did anyone else find this? No one's answering the phone at the hospital!

Also, how long did you leave it before trying again. I feel like I've had my last chance (I'm not getting any younger) and am desperate to get back on the wagon. DH is more reluctant, he thinks we should wait 6 months before trying but I feel like I'll get over it better if I'm doing something positive (i.e. TTC) rather than wallowing. Please give me some reassure that we'll be able to get pregnant again.

Thanks all x

hi marathon sorry to hear about your mmc. there is a miscarriage section here

i havr had a few erpc's and i only really bled after 1 of them, so i wouldn't be too concerned about that. If i were you i would still call the hospital if you are concerned.

wrt trying again, i waited until i had a period as personally i did not want any confusion over dates but some feel ready to get on and try asap. do whatever feels best for you and you oh.

hope you are getting good support irl.

take care.

Hi guys: sorry about the losses you have suffered. As mumatron : you seem unfortunately to have first hand experience: wonder if you could shed some light for me. I had an ERPC on 15th April. No AF yet. When did yours arrive? Did you manage to conceive successfully afterwards? We are also running out of time. This was my first pregnancy after ttc for a very long time. MMC at 8.5 weeks. Embryo measured 6 weeks. Thank you in advance.

marathonmum i am so sorry for your loss. I had a mc in Dec and also found out at my 12 week scan. It was truely devastating so i hope you are getting lots of support in real life. I mc naturally, so i'm not sure if/when you should bleed. In terms of waiting to ttc, we just waited for one AF to come and go. I think after an ERPC they recommend 3 months to let the lining re-grow, but i see no reason to wait 6 months, unless emtionally you're not ready. I've met some other post ERPC ladies on these threads who ttc straight away though.

If you do want to post on the mc threads they are here i found them very supportive.

Dimonds sorry for your looss too. Like i said i mc naturally but i waited 6 weeks for my AF. I've also come across others who have waited 8/9 weeks but that does seem to be unusual. After 6 weeks i would maybe contact your GP?

Good luck to you all. BTW, i caught again after my mc in dec and am 13 weeks today so there is hope i promise. xxx

Hi, sorry for your loss xx :(
I had this last yr, and didn't bleed at all apart from a tiny amount straight after, i was told that the dr obviously did a very good job of cleaning the womb.

Hi marathon, I'm sorry for your loss, truly. I had a blighted ovum (nothing developed beyond the early stages) and found out at my 12 week scan too. I'd prepared myself for bad news just incase, though didn't expect to see an empty sac Sad I had my erpc the week after and didn't bleed at all really, I'd bought loads of duvet-style sanitary pads that I just didn't need. Try not to worry, the operation should have removed everything and I don't think you should bleed lots actually, that would have worried me.
I waited about 4-5 weeks for af and then have been regular since. This was last October and I am now 9 weeks pregnant again Grin I am 37 and on the plump side so felt slightly disadvantaged (also enjoyed wine rather too much!), such a cliche but when you are over the worst (give yourself a good 2-3 weeks to stop crying in the street!) you will relax and start to feel positive. I did focus too much at first on getting pregnant again straight away, my mind and body weren't ready clearly. Be kind to each other, no embargo but try not to put pressure on each other, and hopefully it will happen when fate decrees. Good luck hun! x

diamonds my cycles varied after each erpc, could be anything form 4 to 8 weeks for af to return, and even then i didn't always have a regular cycle for a while.

I did manage to have a successful pg, after 4 miscarriage i have dd2 who is 18 weeks old.

Hi - all good advice above, but just wanted to add that current medical advice is, once you've had a period, to start trying again straight away (if you feel ready, of course), as you're actually likely to be more fertile in the few months following an ERPC. I got pregnant the first month of trying after an ERPC.

Good luck.

no1childminder · 15/05/2011 21:56

Hi, i got my AF 5wks after my ERPC. I was told to wait for at least one period as with the operation they remove your lining and if its not thick enough the chances of miscarrying again are high, so at least if you wait for a period you know its thick enough. good luck with the TTC, i started last night- wahoo!!
