In the interest of medical science progression and to keep me amused whilst ttc for yet another month, I would like your suggestions please - top tips on how to get pregnant. I wonder if I can do everything on the list if it will actually work. So I will start the list with:

Actually taking folic acid/ conception vitamin. After 13 months I have kind of given up on them. Will now start again. As will DP!

Caffieine and alcohol - I have stopped drinking tea already and don't drink alcohol in quantity, so this one will be over to dp to share with me

staying horizontal with hips in the air for at least half an hour after sex.

Using the opk sticks I have rather than forgetting they are in the drawer

robitussin - my mental jury is a bit out on this one but in the interests of babymaking I am willing to try it this month

concieve plus - so far has done bugger all in helping me get pregnant, maybe this month I shall switch to preseed.

excercise - I really should do more, but what kind?

Please feel free to add your top tips for my experiment! Roll on that BFP!

Obviously you forgot the most important ones

"relax and it will just happen"

"Only have sex when you feel like it so that it stays fun"

Or are we not including absolute bollocks in the list? [GRIN]

Seriously good luck with your pull out all the stops plan. Pineapple juice to aid implantation is my offering.

NinjaChipmunk · 11/05/2011 16:05

ah yes I had forgotten about pineapple juice, its the not from concentrate stuff isn't it? and when shall I stick it on my shopping list for? Grin

Don't forget the grapefruit juice to increase EWCM too....

LoveInAColdClimate · 11/05/2011 16:08

Grapefruit juice in first half of cycle to aid EWCM? If this is not my month I also plan to pull out absolutely all stops next month so will be watching with interest!

LoveInAColdClimate · 11/05/2011 16:10

Hahaha, maybe - great minds think alike (but I type more slowly!).

maybebabyR · 11/05/2011 16:11

Haha love I tried it this month, hopefully it did something Smile

NinjaChipmunk · 11/05/2011 16:13

I can't stand grapefruits, can I add anything to it? It should still go on the list though!

eurochick · 11/05/2011 16:14

Ahem "deep" positions for swi.

maybebabyR · 11/05/2011 16:16

I'm quite lucky ninja in that I love grapefruit! I'm sure if you mixed it with orange juice it would be fine!

Grin euro

LoveInAColdClimate · 11/05/2011 16:18

I assume it would still work if you added orange juice or something to dilute it? I tried it the cycle before last, maybe - kept forgetting to buy any for next two months, though. Will try again next month if this month hasn't worked. Do you think it helped? I did seem to have quite a lot of EWCM the month I used it (where else would we share these things if not for MN?) but did not get updiffed!

maybebabyR · 11/05/2011 16:21

I don't really know love Mine never really gets very, ahem, stretchy, but I think I did get a larger amount, so to speak!

ShowOfHands · 11/05/2011 16:24

Staying horizontal with your hips in the air does not aid conception. The good swimmers, the ones that you want to swim up to an egg know how to do it without gravity's help. The ones you don't want swimming up there need to fall out.

The only thing lying there with your hips in the air will do is give you cystitis. Go for a wee fgs.

Sorry, it's my personal bugbear.

After 13 months a gp will do some basic tests for you if you haven't been already? Just to check you're ovulating at first.

NinjaChipmunk · 11/05/2011 16:24

this is all good research, keep those tips coming!

eurochick · 11/05/2011 16:27

Actually, SoH, there is a study about IUI which shows that letting women lay still for 15 minutes after the procedure, rather than kicking them striaght out of the clinic, improves the chances of conception. I don't see why it wouldn't be the same for natural insemination.

NinjaChipmunk · 11/05/2011 16:27

show I've had tests, dp's had tests, there is nothing wrong with either of us so far (we have a ds so it worked once!) we've just got our referral to roehampton and I have an appt in july. This is really to help myself have a more lighthearted look at things this month rather than go completely round the twist. I have noted what you said about cystitis though as didn't know that. Thankfully I've never had it but I can imagine its a nightmare if you do.

OP posts:
ShowOfHands · 11/05/2011 16:39

IUI is a different kettle of fish. A normally healthy and fertile couple are not shown to be any more likely to conceive when lying flat for 15 minutes afterwards. And it can cause problems with cystitis and is counterintuitive when your body expels excess sperm, retaining the good swimmers for a reason. IUI has already removed the poorer sperm so works differently.

Ninja, I know why you're asking. It took well over a year and then a miscarriage before I got pregnant with dd and I vacillated between, let's try every theory going and fuck it I'm not even thinking about it. DH never knew which woman he was going to get each month.

NinjaChipmunk · 11/05/2011 16:44

I find the 'every theory going' but with a hefty pinch of salt stops me actually analyzing it too much and is a bit cheerier. And yes, dp prefers the cheery me to the manic 'i want a baby NOW' person I could so easily become!

NinjaChipmunk · 11/05/2011 16:45

not sure how he'll take to giving up coffee though.....

OP posts:
ShowOfHands · 11/05/2011 16:50

DH would have left if I'd banned coffee. I didn't even try.

NinjaChipmunk · 11/05/2011 16:54

I reckon I can get him on decaf for a bit, we have a good coffee shop near us that he buys his beans from. Its only fair he shoulders some of the burden! If he won't give it up completely then I think he can at least cut right down. Should be an interesting conversation....

OP posts:
eurochick · 11/05/2011 17:04

Each to their own. I've been doing it for several months without any cystitis problems so far. My hubby has zero sense of direction and as there's no one up there to ask directions from, if his swimmers are the same, I figure gravity can only help!

LoveInAColdClimate · 12/05/2011 08:24

Further to my grapefruit juice input above, I am Blush to admit this, and am not normally at all woo, but we have got a bowl of oranges on the bedside table as the colour orange is meant to promote fertility and a postcard of the Cerne Abbas giant bluetacked to the wall over the bed. However, I should point out that, so far, neither has got me updiffed, so I cannot vouch for their effectiveness.

NinjaChipmunk · 12/05/2011 10:16

love I like your thinking, I might do something similar and surround myself with phallic objects and pictures.
And it struck me last night that I hadn't even thought about what foods are good for fertility. I need to do a quick google and see what I should be eating/ avoiding.

herethereandeverywhere · 12/05/2011 21:16

My MIL bought me a "fertility doll" from South Africa. After 15 months of trying, conceived 1st month of it being in the house. Lent it to friend who had been trying for a year and she conceived first month of it being in the house too. She never gave it back so I can't lend it to you but I'm sure you could get something similar on the internet or summat!

LoveInAColdClimate · 13/05/2011 13:40

I think it may be a symptom of my desperation that I am now seriously considering buying a fertility doll to go with my bowl of oranges and Cerne Abbas giant postcard! Also someone suggested rose quartz under the pillow on another thread - I think I have a bracelet somewhere...

If anyone has any snake oil they would like to sell, I am apparently your ideal customer!*

Not knocking your doll at all, herethereandeverywhere* - it clearly works much better than my oranges and phallic postcard!
