Hi, it's my first post on here and hoping someone can help. We have one child who is 7 and would like another. After 7 years of trying on and off we finally sought help last year. Tests have since shown my OH's sperm count is half what it should be and a lap and dye test showed that i have a fallopian tube blocked and it can't be unblocked. We now have to wait 3 months for another appt with consultant to find out our options. Does this mean it's impossible for us to have kids, does it mean only IVF is the answer ? We will have to pay for IVF because we already have a child but we're hoping there's cheaper options... Really hope someone can help explain because the hospital have left us with a million unanswered questions and 3 months is a long time to wait to find out on something so precious to us. Thanks :) xxx

I'm no expert, but since we have 2 fallopian tubes and presumably it is only one of yours that is blocked, I can't see any reason why you could not in principal conceive (i.e. an ovum should still be able to make its way into your uterus down the remaining unblocked tube). As regards your husband's sperm count - it only takes one sperm to fertilise an egg, so a low sperm count should not make natural conception impossible - just much harder.
The blocked tube and low count I guess explain why it is taking so long to conceive - but from what you have said it doesn't sound like natural conception is an impossibility. Interventions (like IVF - though there are other options) may help speed things up.

This link might help outline a few options...

Aparently a low sperm count can easily be remedied with diet and nutrition see
www.marilynglenville.com/infertility.htm or Zita Wests book. Regarding a blocked tube I dont know but like Gethsemane has pointed out if it is just one tube you can still conceive from your other.
