I went for a pelvic ultrasound today as I've been ttc for 18 months now.

They found a 3cm cyst on one ovary and a 4cm cyst on the other.

They also only found one follicle.

I'm most worried about the one follicle. I've read that I should have loads and that one is so poor that there's basically zero chance of me getting pregnant even with IVF. See: www.advancedfertility.com/antralfollicles.htm

Does anyone know anything about this? I am worrying myself needlessly or is my reading right?

Many thanks

Hi level what cycle day are you on? Have you had hormone tests as well?

I know it's hard but please don't panic. I think cysts can disrupt ovulation so once they have been dealt with you may well be fine. And the number of follicles you should have depends entirely on your cycle day.

I am about to start ivf and they certainly won't write you off just because you have one follicle on an unmedicated cycle. If you need ivf - and I'm sure you won't - they give you follicle stimulating hormone so as long as you have a good ovarian reserve you will grow lots more.

Have you had any other tests? Did the person doing the scan give you any thoughts on what happens next?

Big Brew for you xxx

PS I just looked at the link you posted and am a bit Confused as my ivf clinic did not look for antral follicles ... They prefer to use a combination of an ultrasound and blood tests to determine suitability for treatment.

I am sure you won't need ivf anyway! Smile

I'm on day 33/1 - I have light bleeding and anticipate full AF tomorrow.

I've had various hormones tested and they have all come back in the normal range. FSH was 8.9 which is at the bad end of average.

Properly stressing about this Sad

I've even stated googling inter country adoption and found out you have to be married for 2 years which is stupid. I'm getting married this year but have been with DP for 16 years. Apparently that 16 years doesn't count.

I've not met with my consultant since the scan so no treatment has been discussed yet. I'm probably getting ahead of myself.

When is your dr's appt? I am sure just dealing with the cysts will help sort things out. One of my friends had three cysts on her ovaries and she took a progesterone only ocp for a month and then started ovulating regularly after that.

FX you get some answers and advice soon ... And one thing I've learnt over three years of FTC is that Dr Google is not our friend!
