sperm related question

TMI prolly, I did warn you, not my usual name, and I think i should get bonus points for not chosing a sperm related pseudoname Grin

TTC for a while, no luck. have noticed that Dhs volume of the stuff is hardly anything, a couple of years ago before we started trying he had what i would say was a normal volume, now when he comes theres only a tiny bit (as in a drop about the size of a 2p piece thats the times when i have seen it obviously rather than the times when its where it should be!) even after abstaining for a while, so its not related to frequent emptying ;) and I also never get leakage after sex at all, where as in the past I would get that yucky squishy knickers feeling, we are wondering if this is the reason on the no baby front? googled and only found stuff related to older men (he's 28) and yucky 'increase your potency with these magic pills!' type websites. his sex drive is also reduced compared to what it was. so what i'm asking really is is semen volume reduction related to infertility and has anyone elses partner had this problem?

I think if you're worried about this you should make an appointment together with his GP. How long is 'TTC for a while'? is it more than 12 months?

It's the motility that is most important. No use of high volume if the swimmers won't do a thing. You can have a sperm test done privately or ask to see your GP. You can have a home test too, but not sure how accurate they are.

not 12 months yet, but not far off. Yeah GP is the next step for us, in a couple of BFN's time assuming it doesnt happen before then.

thanks scrummy, we tried the home test, didnt work properly as the stuff that is sposed to liquify the sample didnt do it's job and the resulting mixture was too viscous to go into the little well thing, we're psyching up for the GP route but prefering the 'its not twlwe months yet, there is still time..' positivity option for now.

Get him drinking plenty - well hydrated is good and whack him on some fertility supplements/vitamins - I also talked my DP into abstaining from hot baths - anything to help the swimmers!

We had similar issues with sperm count. It took 2 years to conceive 1st dc. Than conceived almost immediately with 2nd (although miscarried) Conceived dc2 again really quickly. I am sure for us it was knowing that we were in the process of receiving treatment help. Had been offered IUI.
My advice would be to visit gp and get in the system. Also zinc is good I believe.

If his volume has changed significantly he needs checking out - it could be his prostate is not working as it should - this is the gland that makes most of the liquid part of semen. Count and motility are important of course but the 'soup' the sperm are delivered in has important roles in helping the sperm activate and get through the cervix.
He may just have a low grade infection that needs some antibiotics to sort out, or he may have developed partial retrograde ejaculation where it goes back into the bladder instead of out of the end of the penis. Has he had any ops, poor health or is he diabetic?
Whatever, it is worth him seeing his GP and booking a semen analysis.

I think Gp also, Also might be wort trying vitamins
www.marilynglenville.com/infertility.htm try this link, near the bottom of the page is a table of what vitamins she recommends. The ones for the man are designed to increase the amount and health of sperm
